Feedback on 616, as usual most on usability ;o))
as usual i am better in giving feedback on things.
btw so that I don't forget it - thanks for the fine work :o)
- rename folder
The usual Key for rename is f2
the border left / right is a bit thick
- right-click on taskbar icon, choose close does minimize
instead of closing it.
Option 'minimize on close button' is different
action than this one!
- File 'changes' could display build number after date
so it is easier to keep track of which version is what.
- default ending for opml-files is - opml.
- import opml dialog
(has no cancel button // has no shortcuts)
has irritating structur.
i asume i should browse first, then select, then import.
but I could type in the name of a file and then what?
The dialog itself from top to bottom should lead me
like a wizard. Top comes first, end is last.
On Import does import mean import list for display? import for import?
On [Select all] [Unselect all]
these are two functions, not one!
On Feeds found:
I am missing an indicator that I have already added this feed.
Asume I want to seperate my new feeds - how do I keep track of
which one I have already added?
I would add a "filed in folder" column to 'feeds found' or
a little icon as 'added'
On Close: does close import? before? Where is [ Abort ]?
If not to complicated I would suggest also a "remove selected". Otherwise I
would have to end this import, go to the place where I have added it and
then delete it there if I accidently got one wrong.
To get rid of this litte workarounds, I suggest this kind of dialog:
(// or [// means greyed out. (Only available functions are to be enabled.)
| [ Select all ] [// Unselect all]
| [// reset set place on selected ] [// reset all set places ]
split in two lines for display in this messges, could be one line
Initial display:
# Filename: [ ] [ Browse ]
# [// Import file for display ]
#
# Feeds found:
# place to add to | name | description
# [
#
#
# ]
# [ Select all ] [// Unselect all]
# [// reset set place on selected ] [// reset all set places ]
# File to folder: [//<bottom> ] [//set selected]
# [// Import ] [ Abort ]
# (//Import only adds feeds to selected places, the rest is ignored.)
Focus on: [Browse]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First step: Either I browse a filenname or I do insert it manually. As soon
as I insert one char, [ Import file for display ] gets enabled.
Then I press [ Import file for display ]
If file contains no feed, message is displayed "no feeds found" (= yes, I
did something but hey, there are no feeds!)
If successfull: Focus on first feed, most of the buttons are enabled now.
# Filename: [ nameoffile ] [Browse]
# [ Import file for display ]
#
# Feeds found:
# place to add to | name | description
# [ < no import> | feed a | description a (selected)
# < no import> | feed b | description b
# < no import> | feed c | description c
# ]
# [ Select all ] [// Unselect all]
# [// reset set place on selected ] [// reset all set places ]
# File to folder: [<end> ] [set for selected feed]
# [// Import ] [ Abort ]
# (Import only adds feeds to selected places, the rest is ignored.)
As soon as
- more than one feed is selected, unselect all is enabled.
- one place is selected, [ reset all set places ] is enabled.
- one feed has a selection, [ reset set place on selected ] is enabled.
- one feed has a selection, [ Import ] is enabled
As soon as
- only one feed is selected, unselect all is disabled.
- no place is selected, [ reset all set places ] is disabled.
- one feed has a selection and no place [ reset set place on selected ]
is disabled.
- no feed has a selection, [ Import ] is disabled.
Notes:
| Feeds found:
| place to add to | name | description
It is called "Feeds found". "Feeds name", "Feeds description" is
redundandent
Where to file, content of dropdownbox, (end) selected on initial
(end)
(top)
(none)
folder a
folder b
folder c
folder d
If I have set everything to my desire, I finally press Import or Abort.
Does someone has a link from where I could test an import?
The ones from http://www.rss-verzeichnis.de won't work nor the one from
feedreader itself.
Hi everybody :o) With 50 new feeds to be added I was getting grumpy on this not working "add feed" thing. I tracked it down: If I delete my toolbarsettings.bin, several errors disappear! 616 still ignored programm property setting "Open maximized". Flickers and then minimizes in a little bar at the top of taskbar. Doubleclick on title bar leads to resized status, again dblclick finally maximizes. 'add new feed' ist broken. If I reopen my feeds with 610, there is no problem adding feeds. I erased all files (except Toolbarsettings.bin / Feedreader.ini) to check whether a maximum was reached but even with no feeds in it there is no difference. erased toolbarsettings.bin: FR starts resized modus, then maximizes automaticly as it should do. Add Feed works again. btw I just changed the toolbar once - at the start to get the buttons I want. I would asume that all this updates on graphical things infects somehow the toolbar. Toomas / Karsten, anyone likes my file? ;o) Nicole -- http://www.useful-sounds.de/ - http://beissholz.de |
(In case one is interested, some things are easier in chat: _neezee@ircnet or 153730581@icq) FR displays everthing read after start or if you reswitch from another application for example via alt-tab. folder (4) feed a (2) feed b (2) If I select folder, folder looks read and (4) plus bold disappears. If I select feed a, folder (4) reappears, feed a says marked read. If I select feed b, feed a reappears, feed b marked read. At all times, no headlines are marked read. If I mark a headline for example in b, feed b has no change in number but folder looks mark read. There has something gone badly wrong. Little things Filename CHANGES Feedreader is for windows and therefor it needs file extensions like .txt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Splash Screen could perhaps show version number ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - still a open - resize resize on startup, but now does start in fullscreen - empty row beneath toolbar does not occur Nicole -- http://www.useful-sounds.de/ - http://beissholz.de |
And it does not seem necessary to me to save after every feed. others might see this different. how about 'autosave after the retreavel of x feeds'? you could choose x=1 and I would do x=10. Note: You have not only to save the fact that there are new headlines but also what happens with the rest in the meantime (read / delete / delete feed). This is why I would prefer a Save button. Then I would save after one folder has been 'done' = read and would wait while fr does save. >Add new feed: >Is working for me?! I will try the new version, ~ 40 new feeds are waiting. :o) btw - do you have an easy opml explanation for me? perhaps it might be shorter if I wrote them as opml import than do them manually :))) Nicole -- http://www.useful-sounds.de/ - http://beissholz.de |
Toolbar problem: I can't reproduce this problem. Please send me your 'Toolbarsettings.bin'. Does it make a difference if you open FeedReader minimized/normal/maximized? Does it go away if you maximize the window and then normalize it again? >Another thing: Although I've told it in properties to open maximized, >it does ignore it and opens on a space that's perhaps 1/4 of my screen. What do you mean with this? Such a property doesn't exist. You can start it minimized. Crash on XP: I will try to reproduce this 'mentally' :). I've already thought about an autosave feature after every refresh. This could be called manually, too. Space -> jump to next unread message in treeview and listview: Added to ToDo-List. Prevent flashing of headlines: Made some changes, should be away. Set treeview and listview to doublebuffered. This costs more memory as the images of this components are painted to an memory image and then copied to the screen. Add new feed: Is working for me?! I added the new features to the todo-list. Just things I notice, please add them to your personal bug/featurewishlist ;o) When jumping with tab from treeview to headline, browser window is not updated with this first headline. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My feeds misses an 'add folder / feed' feature (right-click menue always offers the features which are useful in this context) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I can't rename folders? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I can't mark all news of this folder read? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I do have My feeds feed 1 feed 2 feed 3 feed 4 feed 5 feed a I want to drag feed a to be the first of my feeds - I can't. (You can't move single feeds between folders either - they always go into a folder) I could move feed 5 (which opens up with all entries and makes it therefor hard to move) down feed a and then 4,3,2,1 but I am talking about 20 folders I would have to move - btw for a folder names watch with the xml-feed from the forum if it helps ;o) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have always disliked this 'explode the tree the minute you click it' feature, because it it not windows standard. Windows standard is: one click - mark it double click - open it in case of drag and drop - wait ~ 2 sec and if the mouse is still over this folder, open it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Most of the possible commands which are available for a toolbar are not available via menue. :o) Nicole -- http://www.useful-sounds.de/ - http://beissholz.de |
<pre>Hi !
I'm Carmi, the developer of Formatted XDOM, a library you
seem to be using in FeedReader.
First of all, I'd like to express my happiness, resulting from the
fact I helped somebody do something.
Second, I'd like to suggest you include the latest
Formatted_XDOM.pas in the Source distribution of
FeedReader. I get every now and then a reqest to send this
file to a user who tries to compile FeedReader. Either it's not
included or not the latest version.
Though I enjoy knowing my code is needed, I presume it
would be much easier for everyone if the file is included in the
FeedReader sources.
I can either send you the file directly to your email or you
can download it yourself from
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://valkyrie-module.sourceforge.net/Formatted%">http://valkyrie-module.sourceforge.net/Formatted%</a>
20XDOM.htm
I hope this version will work correctly with the latest version
of XDOM, but I cannot ensure it as I do not have time at all
for these matters.
Thanks,
-Carmi
- a search for feedname / feedurl feature. I often have to guess or open up directy the subsriptionfile to check if i have already subscribed this feed (warning someday would be nice too) - if I search headlines, I would like them sorted by date, not by feedname and then date (that is what i asume it is. - if i search something and then click the headline (or the feedname in browser window if you like) I would like the feed to be selected in feedtree :o) -- http://www.useful-sounds.de/ - http://beissholz.de |
happy coming new years eve alltogether ;o) I wrote that I have a problem with the toolbar - it now occurs each time I open feedreader, see here. http://www.gnak.de/pix/feedreader1.jpg Another thing: Although I've told it in properties to open maximized, it does ignore it and opens on a space that's perhaps 1/4 of my screen. Plus I had yesterday the first crash on xp - it just closed on 'jump to next unread' - I could imagine that it might have had a problem dealing with either stress (I was some days not around and do have a lot of feeds) or more plausible I was just jumping to a feed which was updated that moment. All I did was 'mark all read', 'jump to next' and on some messages 'open in browser'. Cause I allready had gone through a lot of my feeds I was slightly grumpy to see that all already catched feeds had to be catched again and my marks have gone. It would be nice to have a button / a command someday 'do save now as you would if closing' now back to the mail of Karsten >> Thing with Ctrl-R is - it's not that reachable with one hand if you want to >> just use the keyboard. :o) Suggestion: cause we do have a better focus view >> etc, why not make a single key read with spacebar? Hi all. I want to change the way the translation strings are stored. Actually they are stored in xml files and get parsed at startup. If there are special characters in the file, the parser dies and the translation fails. The conversion utility i wrote fails for languages which doesn't use the latin characterset. I want to change this to simple ini style files so that the user can use a simple editor, enter their translation for a string and saves the file. There would be no conversion needed, the files can be used as they come. E.g.: Update=Aktualisieren Search=Suche The only thing is to watch out that the original string doesn't contain a '='. If so it should be encoded. At the moment we doesn't have such a string :) . This would make translating Feedreader to other language very much easier and it's a change which is only a technical one. At the moment we have to change all translation files anyway as we have new strings. Greetings, Karsten |
This is for the news overview (F7). It depends on your hardware. Karsten |
The shortcuts that were shown weren't working anyway. Problem is: if you e.g. press Alt+e the main menu is activated, so Alt+e never goes to the toolbar. I think that it is standard that toolbar buttons never show a underlined character (for the shortcut key). If you are an advanced user you know the shortcut (e.g. Ctrl-F5 for Update) or you press the toolbar button with the mouse. > > - problem with flashing list view is back on 'mark all of this feed' > (but not every time) Hmm, did i miss one? My bug ;) : If feedreader is maximized and i try to press "x" button on
top-right corner, it does something like "restore-maximize" two times,
then hides feedreader. This restore-and-then-maximize thing is weird...
Same goes on then clicking on tray and opening feedreader. This problem
occurs only then Feedreader is maximized.<br>
- when first started, i had a toolbar which did not had the height of one
icon but two. once done "cusomize" and it is back to normal.
- now all icons miss a shortcut?
- problem with flashing list view is back on 'mark all of this feed'
(but not every time)
rest seems fine from here. :o)
Updates: - Fixed 'feature' when a toolbar has not working shortcuts assigned to every caption after customization. - Standing in browser and pressing Ctrl-z jumped to the second unread message. The next unread message was not shown. - Usability of Add New Feed form enhanced (shortcuts, tab stops, etc.). - When creating news overview, show Hourglass cursor and do Application.ProcessMessages. - Overview of selected feed only. If a folder is selected all news of all child feeds are shown. If a treenode is selected which doesn't represent a feed, then MyFeeds is used. If MyFeeds is selected, then all news of all feeds are shown. If a single feed is selected then only the news of this feed are shown. - When creating a new feed, let the folder default to the actual active folder. |
