For example:

device1.R = device3.RR device1.L = device3.RL

Use case: Laptop has n channel output, but the DAC stinks. Connected are two USB DACs with low SNR, but each only supports two channels. (You can imagine expanding this out to many more decoders.)

Another possibility: Virtual audio device driver that can have its channels split out across physical devices. More work, but could be more performant.
