How can I filter audio from only one specific application?

Complete beginner here, I apologize if I am missing something obvious. I am looking to filter audio from one application with Equalizer APO, without affecting other applications. I attempted Application Audio -> Virtual Audio Cable -> Equalizer APO -> Voicemeeter -> Headphone Output, but this not only produced laggy audio filled with static but also affected audio system wide, despite having my device in APO set as a virtual audio cable separate from my default output. At this point I am somewhat lost. Again, all I am trying to do is route audio from Application -> Equalizer APO -> Headphone Output without affecting any other application audio sources. Thank you for any help.

AFAIK, setting APOs per application is not implemented yet in EqualizerAPO.

Could you tell which type of audio interface you have there and how you use it with audio applications (only headphones, also speakers) ? Which application you want to use to stream through EqualizerAPO filters (can you select output device through it)?

In generally speaking, ASIO, WASAPI Exclusive (and WDM/KS) output modes are not affected by APOs but, unfortunately, these modes are rarely multi client which leads to situation where streaming can be done from one application at once only. Voicemeeter supports at least some of these modes so, using it as system default playback device bypasses EqualizerAPO filters.

If application, you want use with EqualizerAPO, supports output device selection then you could try by
      - set Voicemeeter (or any VAC) as system default output device and select one of those mentioned output modes from Voicemeeter (VAC) output device options
      - set your application you want to go through EqualizerAPo filters to use DirectSound, WASAPI Shared or MME mode for output.
      - in EqualizerAPO config file, use Device: command to target your filters to Headphones output device only

Try VB-CABLE as alternative to Virtual Audio Cable but I think VAC is better. Run VAC Control Panel to setting up that device to prevent some laggs and artifacts. There is many settings you can change. Then use APO Editor to setting up different devices separatelly, I mean virtual and default one. Otherwise APO will affect to both devices by the same filters, that means twice for one sound stream.
