I'm using a USB headset Corsair Vengeance 1500v2, the mic is low and the drivers do not have an option for loudness enhancement on the mic +dB. So I found EqualizerAPO which solves the issue for Skype, Teamspeak, Ventrilo, except for Valve's Steam voice chat for their Steam games. My friends say transmission from my mic through the game and steam's voice chat sounds like demonic robotic gurgles and cannot make out what I'm trying to say. When I disable EqualizerAPO my voice is normal but the volume is low(mic needs boost).
I know this is more of an issue Corsair should fix on their drivers, but it's also odd that this software is working fine and dandy for everything except for Steam's microphone input usage.

If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
I could reproduce the problem using the microphone test in the Steam options. It was actually quite amusing to investigate the problem :)
However, this is a bug in Equalizer APO that appears when an application requests one channel while the microphone input supplies two channels. Unfortunately, there is no setting in Steam nor in the Sound control panel to change the number of channels. So you will have to wait for the next version of E-APO, which I hope to release soon.

not to bring back this old post again. but I am having this problem too. I just now noticed that the program was just now updated.
FYI, if you have not done so yet, try Equalizer APO 0.9. It should fix this problem.
Was this problem ever fixed? I have a very similar problem. Incoming voice chat is muffled in Steam (but things like g+ hangouts are fine).
