    MCE2012 - 2014-08-25

    Hello there!

    Right Im struggling to collect UK freeview TV (probably because im not understanding something in EPG collector).

    Currently I have EPG collector setup for Astra 28.2 and Hotbird 13e which collects open TV with no issues and loads them into Mediaportal correctly.

    So i have a few questions about collecting EPG data for UK Freeview...

    1) What is the collection type? EIT or MHEG4? If i select my nearest transmitter from the drop down list it says EIT, if i select 'all regions' it lists as MHEG5?

    2) Do I only need to scan 1 frequency on freeview to obtain EPG data?

    I keep getting CRC errors and (code 5) and no data collected (code 13) even though I see all the freeview channels listed in the collection log. I have tried different tuner, with no success. I have tried a load of different freeview frequencies with no success. My signal strength is good.

    I have tried V4.1 with the latest fixpack, still problems. I have returned back to V4.0 and am still struggling.

    Any help would be great. Ideally I want to collect from astra 28.2, hotbird 13e & freeview in 1 collection so Mediaportal can import the xmltv file and i can have full EPG listings.

    Thanks

    The collection type is EIT and I believe you should only need 1 frequency. The 'All Regions' tuning file is incorrect.

    I have several transport stream dumps from terrestrial UK that work OK. As an example 506mhz (Crystal Palace I think) and 746mhz (not sure where that's from).

    Don't select a country on the Advanced tab. Leave as undefined.

    And you should be using 4.1 with the latest fixpack. If you need any fixes this is the only version I will do them for.

    Ok...

    So i have tried what you suggested. I have updated to v4.1 with the latest fixpack and did a scan as per your advice. Still the same CRC errors. I ran an 'all region' scan of DVB-T on Mediaportal to find out what frequencies are active. Ive tried each one of these with EPG collector without success.

    I did notice however that all my CRC errors seem to be coming from my TBS6284 quad T2 card and on most active frequencies its only showing a 'true quality' of about 40. So i did exactly the same scan on my K-word DVBT tuner... which had a 'true quality' of 80. This ran an EIT scan no problem and collected data. I transfered the cable feeds over thinking it could be a hardware issue... yet i still have the same issues on my TBS 6284 card. Ive tried a couple of different drivers with no joy. I checked the driver I was using with my previous install (which worked correctly) and I had no issues... EPG collector scanned fine. I have checked all my DVBT feeds with my Kworld tuner and they all show >80% signal strength and quality. This is proven when I do a scan within Mediaportal also, my signal strength shows as high. IM happy my DVBT signal is good.

    Problem with using my Kworld tuner to scan freeview as it is not a T2 card (ie it doesnt pick up HD) and its the HD channels I want guide data for!!

    Thanks

    There is no reason you need a T2 card to collect EPG for HD channels broadcast on T2 as the EPG should be the same (and complete) on all frequencies.

    So the EPG collected from any frequency will include the HD channels you want. It should collect the EPG for the HD channels just fine using the Kworld tuner.

    I wonder if its the T2 aspect that is causing the CRC errors? Can you upload your EPGC log somewhere and post a link so I can take a look at it.

    The HD channels have their EPG data encrypted/obfuscated on Freeview, though - could that be causing an issue?

    AIUI some PC solutions get around the issue by copying the guide data from the SD channel instead.

    It's not encrypted, it's compressed using Huffman compression (same as FreeSat).

    There is an option on the Advanced tab ('Use FreeSat Huffman tables....') to switch on the decompression of those channels.

    I have that option to 'use freesat huffman tables' ticked.

    Log as requested

    Scanning UK Freeview on 706 MHz following a 'find EPG data' shows MHEG5 & EIT data, but loads of CRC errors and everntually exits on code 5.

    try this as your .ini file
    [GENERAL]
    Output=C:\temp\TVGuide.xml
    Timeouts=10,600,5,1,50
    Option=CREATEARCHANNELS,USECHANNELID,VALIDEPISODETAG,USELCN,USECONTENTSUBTYPE,USEFREESATTABLES,FORMATCONVERT

    [DVBT]
    TuningFile=UK.Crystal Palace.xml
    ScanningFrequency=530000,8,EIT

    Thanks for the help but that doesnt work.

    No signal on that frequency so exits code 13

    If i try on 706 Mhz with the ini file you suggested above still exists code 5 with a load of CRC errors.

    On the KWorld tuner?

    And in the log you posted the HD channels were present.

    If you find the correct frequency, tick the 'use huffman tables..' option and get a collection to complete (using the Kworld?) I'm sure your HD data will be there.

    The kworld tuner isn't in my PC anymore so am required to collect uk freeview via my TBS 6284 quad card... And it doesn't work. I've tried all 4 tuners, different frequencies, everything you have suggested and still exits code 5.

    I'm starting to look at alternatives now if this can't be solved as it's frustrating me having loads of epg missing!

      Quick update on this...

      Right Kword tuner back in my PC. Did a scan and IT DID find all UK Freeview TV channel data and also all the HD data.

      Ive had a couple of issues with my satellite dish aswell so all the cable connections remade, dish checked for alignment and i now seem to have a load more channels and a good stong signal.

      I am able to collect everything i need from astra 28.2 & DVBT UK freeview in a collection. Im now just working on finding the data on 13e needed for the channels I have (mainly film and music) then I should have everything setup.

    Hi folks, I seem to be having a similar issue to above, but seem to getting nowhere.
    Current set up is with a TBS 6285 DVBT/T2 tuner which gets signals perfectly well (or so it seems).

    I know the local transmitter is Waltham (I can see it from my roof)

    However, when trying to run I get the following error message

    "The collection process has completed with exit code 13 - The collection finished normally, but no data was collected."

    I'm using Waltham as test site, and EIT as method.

    I will try to post my log file if I can figure out how to post it.

    Help please :)

    Might be something to do with the fact it's a T2 tuner.

    Can you try collecting just one frequency with BDA in the Trace box on the Diagnostics tab.

    You can attach the log file to a post using the 'Add attachments' button below.

    Oh dear, does it not work well with T2 Tuners :(

    I'm just trying a retune of the main system...

    Here we go...

    One note, possibly seen in above (1st Log file) I too tried a KWorld tuner (DVBT), but this just would not lock onto any channel, despite again being able to view live tv in MCE.

    If I analyse transport stream, I get a PID of 0x1fff Null Packet.

  • Steve Bickell

    Steve Bickell - 2015-09-07

    It should be OK with T2 but I was thinking maybe the TBS needs specific T2 code to make it work.

    One thing from your original log posting is that although the signal locks the quality is zero. I doubt it will receive any data when that is the case.

    As for the null packets they are probably being generated by the tuner.

    I'll take a look at the log you attached later.

    I've also noticed that the original poster used a TBS6284 and once he had sorted out his signal it worked fine. His KWorld tuner worked as well.

    I'd suspect your signal even though you can view broadcasts as you've tried 2 tuners and neither worked.

    I've also seen other examples before where the signal was poor and the broadcast could be viewed but the system information that EPG Collector uses wasn't be received. I've never really understood why this was the case but the system information makes up a very small proportion of the broadcast stream so maybe that has something to do with it.

    According to this site https://ukfree.tv/transmitters/tv/Waltham the frequencies are wrong.

    They should be one of the following:

    514
    538
    554 (T2)
    602 (T2)
    698
    737
    754
    762
    770 (T2)

    I think you only need to collect from one frequency so edit the tuning file for Waltham and change one of the existing frequencies to one of the above (not T2) and try it.

    Okay, I'll try this when I get home - here's hoping :)

    Another thing I thought if the above doesn't work, I actually use two tuners on two different systems, the other is a KWorld dual DVBT tuner. I was going to try EPG Collector on the other system. If this works, is there a way to "share" the information between the two systems?

    Thanks,

    JrB

    Thanks Steve, I've managed to get it working on the machine. I found two things that weren't quite right. First of all, the aerial booster wasn't turned on, so the machine was getting a small signal, enough to record normal tv, but HD was a bit glitchy. Secondly, I used the next frequency 514 as suggested above, and it started collecting, Excellent stuff.

    As I'm getting it all once, is there a way to duplicate?
