The vob contain ac3 (-aid 128) and dts (-aid 137) audio. If no -aid is specified on the command line, mencoder will pick the first one he finds. In you case dts do not work because mplayer had been compiled without dts support. To solve the problem add the option -aid 128 to the common options of the encode2mpeg command line. You report suggest me to add a check if libdts is missing. I will add it in the next release. Easy answer: use encode2mpeg. encode2mpeg -o DVD source.mpg -mpeg -dvd -encode 0:0:1 -mpegonly This will remultiplex the stream and should make it a valid mpeg for dvdauthor. If you do: encode2mpeg -o DVD source.mpg -mpeg -dvd -encode 0:0:1 -imageonly then also dvdauthor will be executed. Check that there are no errors from dvdauthor. Sometimex dvdauthor may show errors. In such case adding the option -replex to encode2mpeg should make everything ok. The previous example assumes that the source mpeg is already a valid dvd stream (correct resolution/bitrate/audio-video/codec, etc). If that's not the case you need to reencode with the correct -encode option. Complex answer: you need to remux the video/audio streams. The best tool to use is mplex. But you should learn how to use it correctly (demux the streams first and then remux them with appropriate options). Giacomo |

It built just fine, and seemed to be aware of numerous CPU-specific tweaks. The videos look much less choppy, so I bet there was something in that othe= r mplayer build causing decreased performance. I'll share any further improvements if I figure any out. Thanks for ALL your help. If Mplayer shows the problem, you can hardly expect a hardware player to perform better. > > I'm currently using mplayer-1.0-0.20.pre7.2.fc4 and > mencoder-1.0-0.16.pre7.2.fc4 ( from http://stentz.freshrpms.net )... You should first compile yourself a previous 3.x release of gcc and then use it to compile mplayer (you need also at least lame installed). Quick example: download gcc-core-3.4.0.tar.bz2 tar fjx gcc-core-3.4.0.tar.bz2 mkdir obj cd obj ../gcc-3.4.0/configure --prefix=/tmp/gcc make bootstrap-lean CFLAGS='-O2' LIBCFLAGS='-O2' LIBCXXFLAGS='-O2 -fno-implicit-templates' make install cd <MPlayer source> PATH=/tmp/gcc/bin:$PATH ./configure PATH=/tmp/gcc/bin:$PATH make PATH=/tmp/gcc/bin:$PATH make install Giacomo |

I remember the DVP 642 manual saying that only DVD+R(W) media are supported. I though it was simply propaganda, but it can be the cause of your problem. Try to use DVD+RW media. Try a different DVD-RW media (a RW media burned many times will show defects at some point). Check also that the avi burned in the DVD is identical to the encoded avi on your hard disk. I'm thinking about a media problem because I have never seen choppy video with the encodings I have done. Giacomo |

I used the "DivX Home Theater" profile to encode a video an= d the player was able to perfectly handle the video (it could play, fast-forward, rewind, etc.). However, the video playback was choppy. Any ideas? I was playing from a DVD-RW. I also tried the aspL5, but the video also played back choppy. No, it is not. encode2mpeg -o myfile -avionly -encode 3:2:2 source.mpeg may do the job, but it really depends for what reason you want to reencode the movie. Giacomo |

ok, I have an mpeg file I want to change to mpeg4. How would I go about it? I know the documentation is extensive, but to a laymen like me it drowns me..... encode2mpeg -o a.mpeg -m /home/bones/a.mpeg4 -ovccopy I think that is right? |

The option -txtsub make sense only if you make a DVD (or SVCD). You are making a VCD and VCD cannot have subtitles. If you want to render permanently the subtitles in the VCD, then the option to use is -sub > > encode2mpeg -o peli -n n -kvcd 1 -imageonly -resume clear img - > menu > > The result is: > > INFO: [encode2mpeg] resuming from previous run [2005-12-27 10:23:33] > INFO: [encode2mpeg] resume command line: '-o peli -n n -kvcd 1 - > imageonly -resume clear img -menu' > WARNING Direct Mode: ifps=23.976, ofps=29.970 [vfr=4] > most probably audio/video will be out of sync. Press return to proceed Here is another error. Your source video has 24000/1001 fps, and the default fps for (NTSC) VCD is 30000/1001.
