Can I have a small sample? few MB are enough. Thanks. Giacomo |

Actually, it's an MPEG video right from my TV Tuner Card (Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350). I'm encoding some old VHS tapes. The Hauppauge works pretty well. You could be able to convert the audio to ac3 5.1 with encode2mpeg. Giacomo |

Ya, "-aid 128" was definitely wrong. The original command line seems to be working if I remove "-aid 128". I'll try 1-pass or patch my mplayer/mencoder. Thanks!! But I'm sure "mplayer input.mpg -aid 128" will not :-). I think you were using -aid 128 with the encode2mpeg command line but the audio stream present in input.mpg does not have aid 128 but 0. Please run this time: mplayer -msglevel identify=6 -vo md5sum:outfile=/dev/null -ao null -nocache -frames 0 input.mpg and post the output. Just to be sure. So, if you omit -aid 128 or use -aid 0 (or whatever audio stream id is present in input.mpg) and use 1 pass encoding it should work. Giacomo |

(End of file) Ok, the trouble you had are due to the fact that input.mpg does not have an audio stream. Only video. Or at least mplayer is not able to identify the audio stream. Does "mplayer input.mpg" play with audio or not? If the source does not have audio, the proper solution in your case is to use -encode 0:2:2. I will fix encode2mpeg to output such message in case of source without audio. Giacomo |

If the avi is 23.976 fps, use the options "-n p -vfr 1 -p" in your command line. PAL telecined mpeg plays fine with mplayer, but I haven't tested them yet with an hardware dvd player. If you do such test, please let me know the results. Regards Giacomo |

I'm trying to figure the behavior of -usespeed used to convert ntsc speed avi's to pal DVDs. In a 44 min avi length I'll get 42 minutes in DVD mpeg and the sound is slightly pitched up to sync with that. The avi plays in 23.976 fps. It will probably go unnoticed to most people but the ring of a phone and musical stuff sound rancid. encode2mpeg myth1.avi -o DVD-myth8 -n p -usespeed -a 3 -stdvid 7 -nosplit -mpegonly As Gentoo threw out mplayer-1.0_pre7 before 0.6.0 shipped I needed to go with -stdvid 7 in order to be able to mux. How would I do in order for the .avi and .mpeg to play the same speed, please? Regards, Roger |

At the moment I don't have a solution. I will contact mplayer's developers and see if anybody can help. Giacomo |

I have upgraded to encode2mpeg 6.0 and mplayer SVN and the problem persists. |

Announcing the release of encode2mpeg 0.6.0 This release support MPlayer 1.0pre8 and took a lot of time to finish because of the changes and bugs contained in pre8. The most serious bug of MPlayer 1.0pre8 is the failure to do two pass encoding. You need to patch pre8 in order to use two pass encoding. Also the option -usesbr may not be accurate now. It should be fixed in the next release. Enjoy. Giacomo |

The dvp642 is connected to the Receiver via coaxial cable. The Receiver display indicated PCM instead of Dolby sound and played the file with good a/v sync. I understand this is the latest firmware. I hold out little hope that any more firmware will be released. At least I can rest assured that my archive is good and someday I may get a better hardware player than the dvp642. Again, thank you for your help. John |

I have played your file as031.avi on my player and I didn't observe any desync. I have played the audio with the stereo conversion because at the moment my dolby 5.1 set is not connected. Please play the avi on the DVP 642 using the stereo audio from the TV. I don't think it should make any difference if you play as stereo or as 5.1 dolby digital, but try just in case. If you still have the delay when you play the audio as stereo, then the problem may be with your DVP 642. I did install the last firmware available at the time I bought the player. Version 0112. I you have still the original firmware may be an upgrade can solve the problem. Giacomo |
