I would like to archive my DVDs for playback on a DVP642 hardware player. I have had no success in preserving ac3 5.1 audio. This command I found in profile.html produces an avi file that plays back without any A/V sync problem on the DVP642. Unfortunately, it encodes the audio into mp3 format: encode2mpeg -o movie dvd://1 -avionly -aid 128 -encode 3:2:2 -profile divxht I have a multichannel sound system and mp3 is not going to satisfy the concept of archiving. I was hoping to preserve the ac3 5.1 audio. Every attempt so far to preserve the 5.1 audio has resulted in an A/V sync problem where the video is delayed by about 2 seconds. The playback starts out ok, but after about a minute the video delay is there. After much trial and error, I extracted a chapter from the DVD that had much dialog. The object was to be able to observe the A/V sync. mplayer dvd://1 -chapter 10-10 -v -dumpstream -dumpfile in.mpg Then the following commands were tried and the results burned to a Verbatim DVD+RW and played back on the DVP642. All experienced the video delay. All of the files played ok with mplayer. nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o as621448 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -channels 6 -encode 6:2:1,448 -profile aspl5 nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o as631384 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -channels 6 -encode 6:3:1,384 -profile aspl5 nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o ht621448 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -channels 6 -encode 6:2:1,448 -profile divxht nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o ht631384 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -channels 6 -encode 6:3:1,384 -profile divxht nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o as021 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -encode 0:2:1 -profile aspl5 nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o as031 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -encode 0:3:1 -profile aspl5 nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o as022 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -encode 0:2:2 -profile aspl5 nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o as032 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -encode 0:3:2 -profile aspl5 nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o ht021 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -encode 0:2:1 -profile divxht nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o ht031 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -encode 0:3:1 -profile divxht nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o ht022 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -encode 0:2:2 -profile divxht nice -n 9 encode2mpeg -o ht032 in.mpg -avionly -aid 128 -encode 0:3:2 -profile divxht So, am I wasting my time on the DVP642(I can return it for a refund)? Is there a workable DVD player, a fix for encode2mpeg, or am I making a mistake of my own? John |

This is anyway not related to the sync problem. Concerning your command line, -D 10 is incorrect. The precision of the DC component should be changed only for mpeg2. Therefore remove -D 10 from your command line and see if it already helps with your sync problem. Also if you are using MPlayer 1.0pre8 try with 1.0pre7. There are several incompatibilities between encode2mpeg 0.5.x and MPlayer 1.0pre8. Hopefully I will be able to release 0.6.0 soon. If it is not enough, try the following: - add the option -mc 0 - add the option -mc 10 - use Mpeg Mode - use Mpeg Mode with -mc 0 - use Mpeg Mode with -mc 10 Let me know if you make any progress. For every patch included with the encode2mpeg tarball there is, in the README, an explanation why you should apply it. If you think the problem that a particular patch solves does not affect you, then you do not need to apply the patch(es). Giacomo |

It is better to reencode the audio with: -srate 48000 -encode n:0:1 were n can be 4, 6 or 7. Giacomo |

Thanks for your answers........maybe it's a coincidence but in this moment i am encoding(mpeg mode) animes...i found a lot of time ago in internet a web site that talk about making vcds and give recomendations to encode anime(manga) but i loss the address ...i will google again to find that page.i encode the animes similar to othe films... I think that the selection of a matrix have a big importance in the quality of the final video. encode with *:4:* should be diferent if i use encode *:4:* and -qmatrix hi-res Normally i use direct mode but now I am using (mpeg mode) because in direct mode the performance of my PC it's very bad ....with mencoder i can do a lot of things while i am encoding whitout problem :-) Osmany On Wed, 2006-03-01 at 20:22 -0400, Giacomo Comes wrote: > On Wed, Mar 01, 2006 at 05:40:20PM -0400, Osmany Guirola Cruz wrote: > > Hi > > I am using mpeg mode to do (s)vcd and i am using -encode 4:4:1 i use > > *:4:* to get quality but i do a ps aux | grep mencoder and saw this > > options... > > :mbd=2:mv0:precmp=6:cmp=6:subcmp=6 > > i want to know why not include other options like v4mv , dia=? , dc=? > > or if with this option it's "OK" to get a good quality film...... > > > > Thanks > > Osmany > > The quality option I use are the one that gave me a very high PSNR. > The test were done for DVD encoding, so may be the options are > not the best for VCD/SVCD. > Coming back to your question: > > v4mv is valid only for mpeg4 and it is used in avi mode, it does not > work for mpeg1/2. > > dc!=8 also is not valid for mpeg1 and it makes sense for mpeg2 only > with high bit rate. The test were done for DVD encoding, so may be the options are not the best for VCD/SVCD. Coming back to your question: v4mv is valid only for mpeg4 and it is used in avi mode, it does not work for mpeg1/2. dc!=8 also is not valid for mpeg1 and it makes sense for mpeg2 only with high bit rate. For that reason is disabled for VCD/SVCD, but it is enabled for DVD. I found also that dia results may vary with differents source video, so no specific dia option were chosen. So, to fully answer your question, -encode n:4:i will give the better quality compared to the other three modes, but surely it would be possible to find, for EACH MOVIE you want to encode, a specific set of options that will give a higher PSNR. The one I choose should be a good compromise. If somebody can provide me a better combination, I will use it. It would also be good to have some -encode n:5:i better suited for amine. Unfortunately I have neved done anime encoding and therefore I don't know what to use. Giacomo P.S. In order to see the options used by mencoder add the option -debug and check the log file. |

Hi, Is it possible to generate a DVD menu without chapters submenu? My goal is to have very simple start menu - just audio subtitles and play but preserve original chapters from source DVD. Regards, -- Artur Lipowski |

The answer is yes. The option -usesbr will always work, but it should be used only if other options are unable to accomplish what you need. You can try the following: 1) -mpeg1vbr (VCD) 2) -encode n:3:i 3) -qmatrix kvcd 4) -usesbr And you should really read the documentation! It's all in there. Giacomo |

Sorry ... my idea was send the mail to the mailing list.... was my mistake :-)....... i do a test with a dvdRW with two files a vcd and SVCD and i have problems with audio like you said....now i am doing a dvd 5 low resolution....high KBIT/s but i am not very happy with that resolution i think that to have a good quality in the TV i need more resolution. If you mean to transfer to a dvd the contents of SVCD without reencoding and then to be able to play such dvd on a dvd player, then the answer is it may also work, but not guaranteed. SVCD has a resolution of 480x480 and audio mp2 44100 Hz. 480x480 is not an official supported dvd resolution, but apparently most (if not all) the dvd player are able to play a dvd with such resolution. The big problem is with audio. DVD audio is 48000 Hz. There exist player that would play dvd with 44100 Hz audio, but that is much less common. Most of the time the player wont play it (and also dvdauthor will complain a lot about 44100 audio). So the best thing to do is to keep the SVCD video and reencode the audio to mp2 48000 Hz. encode2mpeg -o DVD -mpeg -encode 7:0:1 -srate 48000 source.mpeg In order to put 3 movies on a single DVD you can use the option -video or -titleset (or both) depending of what you want to accomplish. Giacomo P.S. Please, next time send e-mails like this one to the mailing list. Your question is of general interest and other users may be intrested about your question. |

Announcing (a little bit late) the release of encode2mpeg 0.5.5 It contains: support for encoding from multiple input image files configuration file support few bugfixes/improvements New. encode2mpeglight. In the TOOLS directory of MPlayer CVS is present encode2mpeglight. A smaller (light) release of encode2mpeg that needs only MPlayer/MEncoder. Release cicle. Up to now, encode2mpeg has been released more or less monthly. The next release may take longer. I'm working to patch/fix dvdauthor's spuunmux/spumux. Until I'm done, I will eventually make only a bugfix release (unless MPlayer 1.0pre8 is released). Giacomo |
