Not sure if I understand you correctly, but when in the dialog in the 
participants rider if you click on the group icon( beside the select box 
for users and groups) the dialog expands and you are offered  a spyglass 
icon which is linked to the full management selector, here you can add a 
selection of users, groups or users from groups to your appointment..... 
It's quite powerful.
