    Hello all!
I recently stumbled about an older tool which makes your apps or games borderless. It´s this here.
    https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/864980278005937412/
I used to use this tool before i found the newer one which is more famous now i guess.
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/388080/Borderless_Gaming/
(One note, both of them can be running without Steam at any time)

I still like the first (much older) tool, because it saves it´s settings also in the program folder (Also recently having some other problems with the second tool, which why i want to use the first tool).
As you can see in the Description from the first link i posted, you can actually launch DxWnd from the "Borderless Gaming" Tool if a DxWnd Folder is placed in the Programs Folder. Now i know that this tool seems a little bit outdated, but i saw "Gho"´s name mentioned, or maybe some other user named Ghotik. :)
Well, my question is, do you still have acess to this program? Or was you ever involved in the production of this tool?
Bassically the reason i´m asking all this is because i was thinking if the tool can launch DxWnd, if it´s also can launch a DxWnd Profile based on the Game/App that is hooked in the Tool.
Please tell me if this is all a little too complicated written, so i can try it to write a little better to understand.

I recall I had some talking with a guy that developed an open source borderless window tool here on sourceforge, and maybe he's the same guy that is now the author of the first one of these tools. I searched in the forum to refresh some memories, but I found actually nothing. But the references to ghotik are undoubtedly to myself since there are also references to my DxWnd pages on SF (I often use longer nicknames whenever gho is too short to be accepted).
If I remember correctly, the issue was that I asked permission to copy some logic from that tool into DxWnd to provide an integrated borderless feature. The problem is that unfortunately tools like DxWnd and similar work well when alone: if you combine the effects of many tools you likely end up with a mess. The thing didn't go much further because I realized that the tool was making basically what I was doing too, so there wasn't really too much to import.
Anyway, to answer to your questions:

    • I wasn't involved in the development of that tool, maybe the other way round, perhaps ..
    • The program I recall was open source and probably is still on SF pages. In effect, a google search with "sourceforge borderless window" gives some results.
    • I don't know if the tool can run DxWnd with a profile, but the author say it's possible, so probably the answer is yes. BTW the author provides also his own DxWnd flavour.
    • In any case, DxWnd has its own way to get a borderless gaming. I want to make this loud and clear: this is not because DxWnd does this better than other tools, but only because the combined affect of many tools can give problems.

I'm curious. I think I'm going to test this tool myself. And I'm sorry, but I'm just too stingy to do the same on the second tool as well (3.99$ !!!).

    Thanks for your response.
I was talking only about the first Tool provided by the first link.
Here is a direct link to it.

The second tool has nothing to do with DxWnd. It was only the first one which provided a somewhat connection between it and DxWnd. So, no you must not buy it. :)

I´m really thinking about that last point you said about that DxWnd can also make a Borderless Window. I´m wondering how accomplished this. I know how to hook games into a window in DxWnd without a problem. At the Gameconfig i have "Monitor: Desktop" and my actual Desktop Resolution (x:0 y:0 w:2560 h:1080) and "keep Aspect Ratio" on. With this i still getting not a borderless window, which i thought i would be at this Config. I still have to use an external tool like the mentioned above to make this window then a Fake Fullscreen.
Of course, i know that DxWnd is not there to have a Borderless Fullscreen, only to make Games windowed. But how did you sucess in this?

      Try:
Video tab -> Window style -> modal

      P.S.
I guess the name "modal" might be possible to change to "modal (borderless)".

Of course, i know that DxWnd is not there to have a Borderless Fullscreen ....

        Not at all! Try:
Main tab -> Position -> Desktop
Main tab -> Position -> Desktop work area
Main tab -> Position -> Hide desktop backbround
Main tab -> Position -> Keep aspect ratio

better yet, read the help pages (Help -> View Help) in The configuration panel / Main section to see some examples of the different styles.

Thanks for all sugestions. Yes, i must also have to learn to use the Help File. :)
But one last thing, and i´m also thinking to not finding it in the Help File too.
I tried hooking DxWnd with "Alan Wake" just for some testing and i actually see that "Window Style/ Modal" works as borderless window. Yes, It´s not nescessary to use DxWnd with this game because it´s having a native Window Mode too. But again, it´s just for testing.
Anyways, it gaves an error "GetDepthStencilSurface failed - Not Found". And this gaves me an idea.
Is it possible to hook a game in DxWnd without putting it into a window? That way we could use DxWnd also just for a Borderless Fake Fullscreen.

Uncheck the "Main / Run in window" flag. But this way I'm afraid DxWnd won't try to alter the window style, so it's currently not a useful option to make borderless a bordered window. But it's a good idea for a possible DxWnd improvement ....

Yeah, i already tried this "Main / Run in window" Flag before i posted the above comment. Did saddly forgotten to mentioned it in my post. Tried also hooking the game with Direct 10/11, because i readed somewhere in some other thread that these two are not working or something. That also didn´t worked. Anyways, when running with the unchecked "Running in Window" Flag the game will be simply not be hooked in DxWnd.
Would be very useful in my enviroment if this Borderless Fullscreen Function without "hooking" could be implented. I could also get rid of the other external tool to get a Borderless Window for Games. So in the End i would have DxWnd for both functions.

    @gho

I want to use DxWnd on Alan Wake's American Nightmare (not the remastered version) so I can resize the window and also change the resolution. But the game keeps crashing with a "GetDepthStencilSurface failed - Not Found" error message. If I uncheck "run in window" that stops the crashing, but then that defeats the purpose. Anything I can do about this?

    UPDATE #1:
I set it to fullscreen in the game and windowed in DxWnd, and that stopped the crashing. And I changed floating to free, and that lets me move the game window with a macro now. Only problem I am having now is it won't let me set the game resolution to something else. So the mouse cursor doesn't align with the menu options that well. I'll try playing around with it some more.

Without testing the game, I can just make suppositions. Many D3D9 games don't like their window to be resized or controlled in any way. They can run in window mode, but you can't change the size or modes once the D3D9 device is created. You could try to set the "d3d:NoD3DWindowMove" tweak (the "Tweaks" tab becomes visible after you set the Expert mode). In that case the game size and position will have to be set in the "Main" tab before you run the game. Please, let me know if it works....

I have no idea what any of that means. I think that you misunderstood something or you didn't see the update that I made in my post. Or maybe you confused me with the creator of this thread. But I did as you asked and I added that tweak. All that did was change it to borderless fullscreen, and that's not what I want. I want a window with borders. When I put the game in fullscreen and use DxWnd to run in window mode, it works. Sort of. I get the window with borders like I want. I get the right window size, like I want. And using free instead of flat lets me move the window using my macro, like I want. But one thing I can't do is I can't change the game resolution to the desired resolution that I want to match the window size. So even though I have the right window size, the menu buttons don't align with the mouse cursor. The game resolution is still 1600x900 but my game window is 1584x855, so it doesn't match up right. I tried different things like "keep aspect ratio" and "adaptive ratio" in the main tab and "All" and "Native" in the video tab and "fix aspect ratio" in the video tab. But nothing seems to be changing the game resolution. I have custom resolution, initial resolution, and max resolution set to 1584x855, but it's still loading the game in 1600x900. I also edited the game resolution game file to make it 1584x855 and made the file read only but that didn't help either. I guess since you can't test the game, you can't help me. Bummer. Oh well. At least the game starts up in the desired window size now. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thank you.

Uhmm, I'll have to make some test as soon as possible. Let me organize a testbed.

"Alan Wakes American Nightmare" tested and found working successfully with default options.
