If you have a computer lying around with hard drive space - in which you don't mind installing a new Ubuntu distribution along with the bootloader that it comes with,
(I had a porteus box which would not compile anything. It was cool back in the day when all the repos were working, but not anymore),
what you want to do is download and install Andy's SDR Linux distribution. It recognizes my RTL-SDR from the get-go. You will need a fast internet connection for this, and for doing the Dream build on it later. Mine is a run of the mill 4-core laptop with a 51 GB partition.

  1. Download and install Andy's SDR Linux distro in your spare box - https://sourceforge.net/projects/kb1oiq-andysham/
I used "unetbootin" to take Andy's ISO and instead, make a bootable USB drive out of his ISO. - https://unetbootin.github.io/

  2. After you get Andy's SDR up on your spare box, he says you need ethernet working, so find a cable and plug into your router. Get connected to the internet.

  3. Run this install script by Jayson Bucknell that does everything for you in about 20 minutes (on a 10mbs internet connection) https://github.com/keyboarderror/DreamBuild
For Andy's SDR distro, you want DreamBuildUbuntu.sh
After you save it to your computer, navigate your terminal window to the folder where you downloaded DreamBuildUbuntu.sh, give it executable permission if it doesn't have it already and run
    sudo ./DreamBuildUbuntu.sh

When it's done, you will have Dream 2.2.1 with xHE-AAC support. Make sure you read all his instructions about pulseaudio support-
Run it with dream -I pulse -O pulse
I opened GQRX, selected the Realtek driver and offset (because I use an upconverter), and tuned to 7340 Radio Marti, check the bandwidth in USB. I ran (from a terminal) dream -I pulse -O pulse.
Check sound settings in Utilities->Sound->Pavucontrol.

I apologize if I left out anything. I know all about how frustrating this is. I hope it helps some noob out there to stay in the hobby.

I tried compiling Rafael's Dream on:
Windows 7 - qt5
Windows 7 - VS2019
Windows 7 - VS2010
Windows 7 - VS2015
Mingw
Cygwin
Porteus qt5
I tried running that DRM app on Android 7 from Algorkorea.
I have collected 1bn internets to give to the lucky fellow who comes up with a working Dream Windows 7 build. :) I love HSDSR and can't wait until there is a Linux version of it. I only wish that there was a freq scanner built in along with DSD.
