Ditto is an extension to the standard windows clipboard. It saves each item placed on the clipboard allowing you access to any of those items at a later time. Ditto allows you to specify what gets saved, text, images or html.

Ditto is essential. When I have to use Windows without Ditto I feel crippled. Windows 10 & 11 now have their own "Clipboard History" feature (accessed via ⊞+V), but Ditto is better. However, the version of Ditto on SourceForge is stale. The version on Github is newer by a couple of years. To jokabemail, the person who complained about Ditto asking to bypass your firewall, that's legit. It's needed so that Ditto can implement its shared clipboard feature, for people using 2 or more machines. If you don't need that feature, just deny network access. To enterpin, the person who complained that Ditto only stores plain text, that's configurable. Right-click the Ditto icon, then -> Options -> Supported Types. Make sure "Rich Text Format" and "HTML Format" are in your currently supported types; if they are not, then add them.

Best clipboard saving software and the plus point is that it is open source. This is the first program I download when I fresh install the OS.

Three great things about it for me. 1: You can share on a local network. That's really handy. 2: My left hand is always on the keyboard ready to hit escape, so the default hotkey combo of Ctrl+` works great for quick pastes and 3: its a small format and you can copy a few things and then paste them in any order you want. The only thing that I find difficult is that I "drop" everything (windows) with an escape (or at least try to), but the 'escape' only drops the window but leaves the app up and not to the system tray. If only... Other than that, a great little tool.
