Unit Testing Ah, the boring question of unit testing. I'm thinking of writing some automated unit tests for Dirssync ... just simple stuff. The file which does the testing will be called test.py - and I would like it to be placed in the CVS repository. Is that OK, Vincent? Testing is boring, to be sure, but by automating it we will at least take the drudgery out of running the tests. This'll give us a more robust product. You certainly wont hear any objection from me.
Chris: I got a message from you about the graphics. I couldn't make up my mind whether it was a new post, a copy of a post, a message that I had looked at but thought I didn't, or none of the above. I think that Vincent was saying that he could receive a graphic in any format, which could always be converted to some other format should the need arise.
<SNIP>
</pre>
</blockquote>
Mark:<br>
<br>
Please find the attached graphics. One is a "Photoshop" file which the
graphics people use (that or Illustrator), and a .jpg. I have pretty
close to zero graphic ability myself, but my girlfriend is a design
person. I asked her a few "rules" which she gave me. I'm an amateur
pilot, and we use the symbol D with an arrow through it --> to mean
"direct to", which I though is also kind of sort of evocative for this
lovely program. If the group likes what they see we can keep it, or I'd
be more than happy to send this to a pro (my girlfriend) who might do
better. I just thought I'd get a first pass out there to give people
something to give feedback on. Sort of a v 0.1a if you will. And I
think you will. You won't hurt my feelings if you can give me an idea
what you don't like about it. I have no ego to bruise on this one...I
know I suck at design. <br>
<br>
To answer you question above, I think it was a reply. Vincent and I had
a brief dialogue about what format was kosher. <br>
<br>
I don't know if the mailing list accepts attachments so I'm sending it
to you directly, Mark. I'm wasting a bit of bandwidth, but
purposefully. <br>

My intention is to annonce it to Pypi, Sourcefore, Freshmeat and Vault of parnassus. I've alredy done it in the past for DirsSync (and my other projects). I will do it when this release will be "bug free". Feel free to do it on any other system. If you've tested DirsSync-1.3-RC3 whitout any problems, please inform us in this mailing list. I would like to suggest that you remove the ChangeLog section. When there is a new release, put it as a news item. This will probably increase the profile of Dirssync, as news items are displayed on the home page of Sourceforge (for a while, anyway) _____________________________________________________________ Sign up for your very own email address from UKmail.com To-day !! |

Seeings as Vincent released a new version of DirsSync recently, I thought I'd take the liberty of announcing it on comp.lang.python.announce. It may take some time before the information is shown in the group - which has to be approved by moderators. Let's see what response we get. It could well be quite high. Who knows, Vincent may get a whole bunch of new people wanting to contribute to the project. Anyways, a copy of the announcement is shown below. ANN DirsSync-1.3-rc3 - directories synchronizer DirsSync is an application which synchronizes two or more directories. Download: http://sourceforge.net/projects/dirssync/ Features: * Graphical interface * recurses subdirectories * multiple directories can be specified * two-way synchronization * one-way synchronization ("local" to "remote", or vice versa), with optional deletion on target directory * synchronizes according to time or file size * internationalised in English and Italian Non-features (i.e. what it doesn't do): * does not filter according to file type * does not work over FTP * not suitable as a command-line driven tool Requires: Python and wxPython Development Status: 2 - Pre-Alpha - but is quite usable Environment: Win32 (MS Windows), X11 Applications Intended Audience: Developers, End Users/Desktop, System Administrators License: GNU General Public License (GPL) Natural Language: English Operating System: Windows, Linux Programming Language: Python Topic: Filesystems Recent changes: * internationalization * sundry minor bug fixes Mark Carter _____________________________________________________________ Sign up for your very own email address from UKmail.com To-day !! |

I will convert it to my prefered format (png).

Dirssync.py would be exactly the same (in fact if dirssync doesn't find any localization file it uses internal english messages). There could be two parkages: 1) Dirssync.py (for english users) 2) Dirssync.py + localization files (for other users) So english users have smaller (and faster) downloads Valerio. I'm just alerting your attention to the fact that dirssync.py version 1.10 is broken. The bug details [ 826729 ] are here: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=826729&group_id=14777&atid=114777 It effectively supercedes [ 823287 ] listed here: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=823287&group_id=14777&atid=114777 The latter bug should probably be closed by Vincent, given that version 1.10 fixes the commit problems of 1.9. So, is anyone doing anything to dirssync at the moment? _____________________________________________________________ Sign up for your very own email address from UKmail.com To-day !! |
