If you mean delete the dansguardianfn.conf files and leave only the first
one as when installed (dansguardianf1.conf) I already did that, but the
option to use the feature again is greyed out in the dansguardian webmin
index page, so my gues is that somthenig  has changed after the proccess
and I need to reset but I haven't have a clue and I can seem to find 
something
in the code.

Unfortunately there is not a way to do this through the module due to 
the complex nature that the filter groups can be in. Your best bet is to 
copy the samples provided by DansGuardian when it is first installed.

I'm trying to edit (or view) my lists in Dansguardian, but I keep getting this error.  I checked the module config, and it is pointing to /etc/dansguardian where the config files are.  The lists shown through webmin are all located in /etc/dansguardian/lists and that is what webmin shows as well.  I saw a couple other posts about this same issue but no other suggestions on how to fix it or if anyone else was able to resolve it on their systems.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

What is the correct log format if I want to use the log analysis feature 
of the DG webmin module?

I've tried 'native (space delimited)' and 'Squid log file' but when I 
try to run a log analysis report I get messages like

Warning - Failed to parse log entry or entries - Make sure module config

Files in /etc/dansguardian are owned by root on my system anyway.
You should just make sure that they are readable by the world.

Well I figured out that my DG is running as the dansguardian user. So
this message must refer to the webmin session I guess.

How do control what user webmin runs as? I would have thought it would
kinda run under the user you logged into Webmin as.

How I know I am running DG as the dansguardian user.

daemonuser = 'dansguardian'
daemongroup = 'dansguardian'
and then when I start DG it says "Error opening/creating log file.
(check ownership and access rights).
I am running as dansguardian and I am trying to

Yes I am on linux - ubuntu in fact. I am not logged in as root. But as a
user that does have sudo privs.

It's the same for me but it not seem to be a real problem as it seem to be
the expected behavior according to the developers. Root is similar  the user
Administrator in based Windows platforms. Maybe you are logged as root in
your OS linux based. I have never tried to fix it  because is not a problem
for me. Try to log in with another user.

I have DG Version 2.10.1.1 (Webmin Module Version 0.7.1) running on Debian
5.0.

The DG directory is:

Full path to DG config(etc) directory: /usr/local/etc/dansguardian/

Trying to View/Edit /usr/local/etc/dansguardian/lists/exceptionsitelist, or
any other Filter Group's List,  I have this warning:

Warning - File is outside DansGuardian directory

May you help me to fix the problem? Why it happen even if the DG's directory
path is correct?

Hello,

I just installed the Dansguardian Webmin Module on a Ubuntu9.10 Machine, where I compiled
Dansguardian by myself.

I then installed Webmin and the latest Dansguardian-Webmin Modul. In Webmin I tried to Confirue the
Dansguardian Module, so it fits to my preferences. Everything looked fine but I was not able to
change the lists in Dansguardian. Everytime I opened a list a got the error "You are not authorized
to change this file". But in the Webmin ACLs I was authorized, as this was the Admin User!

I checked the /opt/webmin-511/dansguardian/config file and saw, that my Module Configuration was not
  correct. But I really saved my Configurations after setting them in Webmin. Even after a reboot
the Configuration still fitted in the Webinterface. Just the config file was still on the standard
Settings.

So, I changed the Settings directly in the file and voila: Everything worked like a charm.

I don't know wether this is a bug or I am just to dump to install a simple webmin Module. But maybe
this will help someone, someday.

Do other webmin modules load fine? I'm curious as to why it would error
out on a console permission. I don't think anything checking the version
would cause that to even be a problem.

Have been using DG2.10 with DGWebmin module 070beta1b on Centos 5.4 quite happily.

Have just deployed to a Hosted VPS running Ubuntu Hardy and am getting the following error:

Every thing runs quite happily except the Webmin Module.  It doesnt detect that DG is running and so I cannot access any files to edit them (such as exceptions or Whitelists).

Module reports when attempting to start DG:

/etc/lsb-base-logging.sh: line 22: /dev/console: Permission denied
* starting DansGuardian dansguardian
/etc/lsb-base-logging.sh: line 22: /dev/console: Permission denied
...fail!

Warning - DansGuardian appears to not be running.

I thinking its failing as the VPS potentially has no Console configured....

but surely it should detect the servers running state in the first place.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Most of that functionality was there prior to the latest patches. The
plan is to implement some detailed ACL functionality again once time
permits.

I am not a programmer, so I ended up asking someone about the documentation
section I was citing.  You are right Nerijus and I was wrong.  As I now
understand it the /acl/edit_group.cgi?group=limited page settings has an
overall on/off setting which is verified by init_config.  Having init_config
called does not affect the settings on the
/acl/edit_acl.cgi?mod=dansguardian&group=limited which is contrary to what I
originally thought.

My friend was also gracious enough to offer up some advice which is beyond
my programming know-how, but felt it would be best to pass it on.  He said:

I don't think so.
"This kind of detailed access control is separate from the first level ACLs that control which users have access to which modules. As long as your module calls init_config, the Webmin API will automatically block users who do not have access to the entire module."

I think they talk about the first level ACLs here, and not about the ACLs in the module itself
(2nd level ACLs).
