Hi Tom, that sounds interesting. I have the same feeling about 'abondware' as call you it. I made some kind of an integration (with bb-xsnmp) between hobbit and cricket for trending snmp data. But it was too error-prone to have the configs of cricket, mrtg and hobbit aligned. With our new Hobbit 4.2.0 server I didn't want to install and configure cricket again. That was and is the reason why I looked at devmon. It looks promising if the graphing issue gets fixed. I know, the graphing is only for management people who lost the capability to understand figures :-) But hey, someone once said, a picture says a thousand words,... Willing to help solve this problem, I end this message with the question, does this sound familiar for any one else ? regards, Benoit Vanderbeck Adj. So I've quit working on it until Eric shows up here -- I'm currently monitoring about 50 Cisco switches with cricket and I'd like to use something else -- but I need the per-port statistics in trend graphs, and I'm growing tired of 'abandonware'. I have run into an interesting 'problem' just tracking the environmentals; Brocade doesn't have 'fans', 'temperature', or 'power supplies'. They have 'sensors' -- some of which are fans, some are temperature, and some are power supplies. And the oid for each varies from switch model to switch model. I'm still trying to figure out how to handle this. Tom -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... Hi Everyone, I integrated Devmon a while back and its been working fine. I would like to know if anyone has ever integrated Devmon to monitor Cisco Router memory - Free & Used. I am having issues getting this done, as devmon my devmon error log reads something like this: No SNMP data found for ciscoMemoryPoolUsed on "routername" Cant redefine ciscoMemoryPoolUsed in /devmoninstallpath//templates/cisco-7206/memory/transforms Would really appreciate some help. Thanks guys -- Gmail Is It |

If I have the right understanding about the way devmon works: it's just the daemon that queries the devices, makes the calculations, generating the status messages and send them to the BB/Hobbit server as configured in the devmon.cfg. Running the devmon -readbbhost is just for updating the internal database with newly added systems to the bbhosts file, so that the daemon will queery them in the next loop. For running devmon -readbbhosts you can setup a cronjab to do it periodically ( probably every 10 min ..) =20 Johann =20 ________________________________ From: dev...@li... Hi Marco, devmon works in 2 step: 1) you've to start devmon (i think without parameters if I remember well) and it will go in background. 2) you have to start devmon --readbbhosts every xx time (you can start it every 5 minutes from the hobbitlaunch for example and it will read the bbhosts and send change to configuration to the daemon (writing them to the devmon config file). =20 Te process sending data is the daemon non the one started with --readbbhosts. To do a test open 2 windows launch devmon -f -vvvv in one window and devmon --readhosts -vvvv in the other one =20 =20 ________________________________ From: dev...@li... I am just starting to use Devmon myself and I am finding that some of the OID's are wrong and its not devmon's fault. Its cisco's they are all different, and its frustrating. it depends on the MIB's that are installed on the devices them selves. I have some 6509's answering with different MIB packages. The templates are good start though and they get you going. I have been able to figure out the simple leaf OID's and change them as I need to. But I have not been able to fix the branching ones. Those are a little more difficult, but I will eventually. I am sorry that I do not have any of the devices you state below. good luck, michael Michael A. Hi, as many others I was searching for a replacement of the bb-xsnmp module. I found devmon very interesting, but I do not understand the integration with Hobbit. In a previous post it is mentioned that the rrd collector of the hobbit doesnt understand the output of devmon. How can nice graphics be produce with the output of devmon ? Never mind, I figured it out, the server had the MIB actually on the box and it was defining the number to a string. Fixed it ;-) thanx, michael Michael A. As anyone else seen this problem??? Or know how to fix this?? When i use a specific OID to poll a Nokia Firewall for the cluster status it returns the data type as INTEGER but really the data is a STRING , "member" is the data that is returned but the data type is INTEGER. This doesnt make since, and because of this, the logic for thresholds in devmon gets messed up. It thinks the data is a INTEGER and its really a STRING. Does anyone know how to fix this within devmon ??? or the SNMP query?? thanx, michael Michael A. Price Performance Network Engineering NASA/GSFC Code 440.8/LMB Greenbelt, Maryland 20770 |

I am also finding some OID's dont work for some of my devices and I have to change them, was wondering why that is??? thanx, michael -- Michael A. When you need the MIB converted to an OID, when performing an snmpwalk, use the -On option. -- Christopher Morrison Web Developer Critical Path Critical Path, Inc. 156 Front Street West - Suite 500 Toronto, Ontario M5J 2L6 Canada Phone: +1 416.408.5230 x3301 Mobile: +1 416.560.4958 Fax: +1 416.640.4650 www.criticalpath.net <http://www.criticalpath.net> |

Hello - Is there a way (with the current version of DevMon) to change what ports the SNMP process tests against? I have a situation where the system to be tested is behind a firewall and the group responsible for them (firewalls) will not open port 161... They will however open port 1161.. (go figure).... Thanks - -- --==[ Bob Gordon ]==-- |

I'm beating my way through setting up a template for the Brocade switches and I could use a tad bit of help in setting up the environmental reporting. Brocade has 'sensors' -- ten or more of them -- at these oids: swSensorType : .1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.1.22.1.2 : branch swSensorStatus : .1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.1.22.1.3 : branch swSensorValue : .1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.1.22.1.4 : branch swSensorInfo : .1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.1.22.1.5 : branch Some of these are temprature, value in degrees Centigrade; some are fans, value is speed in RPM; and some are power supplies, with no apparent logic to value. All have statuses that include 'nominal'. How would I handle the transforms? This is my first attempt at this sort of thing, and I'm beating my way through the mibs, snmpget, and snmptranslate, modifying a copy of one of the cisco templates as I go. I have a weird problem with devmon... I have a test devmon is performing on a device, and the test is producing a 'red' alert (which is a good thing, since I want to be paged about it). If I log into my BBDISPLAY, the test shows everything correctly (it's red), and bb2.html shows the test coming up red (good). What's not working is the fact that BB isn't emailing any alerts from anything coming from Devmon! I know BB is able to send me alerts, as it has been normally for all the other tests BB performs on its own. And I've double checked that the server is listed in the bbwarnrules.cfg with my proper email address. Any ideas? |
