I am still looking for help with RRD. Can someone explain why I do not see any RRD files from this output? Hello, This mail describe how to graph all if_* data from Devmon to Hobbit. I am currently running hobbit 4.2.0/all-in-one patch and devmon 0.3-beta2 1) First you need a curently working hobbit and devmon. 2) Then make sure, than the file devmon/templates/modele/if_load/message TABLE:rrd() This will show data in a htmltable and add rrd information in the status pag= e. In order to check, you should see RRD data information in the status =20 page of the service corresponding to your devmon modele when showing =20 source html. 3) Now make parse the data to create a rrd file (one par interfaces), =20 this is done via extra-rrd.pl. In etc/hobbitlaunch.cfg [rrdstatus] ENVFILE /data/hobbit/server/etc/hobbitserver.cfg NEEDS hobbitd CMD hobbitd_channel --channel=3Dstatus \ --log=3D$BBSERVERLOGS/rrd-status.log hobbitd_rrd \ --rrddir=3D$BBVAR/rrd \ --extra-script=3D$BBHOME/ext/extra-rrd.pl \ --extra-tests=3Dif_load In ext/extra-rrd.pl if ( $TESTNAME eq "if_load" ) { # Analyze the message we got foreach $line (@input) { if ($line =3D~ /(^[A-Z].*) (\d+):(\d+)$/ ) { # The RRD dataset definitions print "DS:in:DERIVE:600:0:U\n"; print "DS:out:DERIVE:600:0:U\n"; # The filename print "if_load_$1.rrd\n"; # The data print "$2:$3\n"; } } } 4) Modify etc/hobbitgraph.cfg [if_load] FNPATTERN if_load(.*).rrd TITLE Network Traffic YAXIS Bits/second DEF:in@RRDIDX@=3D@RRDFN@:in:AVERAGE CDEF:inbytes@RRDIDX@=3Din@RRDIDX@,8,* DEF:out@RRDIDX@=3D@RRDFN@:out:AVERAGE CDEF:outbytes@RRDIDX@=3Dout@RRDIDX@,8,* LINE1:inbytes@RRDIDX@#@COLOR@:@RRDPARAM@ In GPRINT:inbytes@RRDIDX@:LAST: %8.2lf %s (cur) GPRINT:inbytes@RRDIDX@:MAX: %8.2lf %s (max) GPRINT:inbytes@RRDIDX@:MIN: %8.2lf %s (min) GPRINT:inbytes@RRDIDX@:AVERAGE: %8.2lf %s (avg)\n LINE1:outbytes@RRDIDX@#@COLOR@:@RRDPARAM@ Out GPRINT:outbytes@RRDIDX@:LAST: %8.2lf %s (cur) GPRINT:outbytes@RRDIDX@:MAX: %8.2lf %s (max) GPRINT:outbytes@RRDIDX@:MIN: %8.2lf %s (avg) GPRINT:outbytes@RRDIDX@:AVERAGE: %8.2lf %s (avg)\n 4) In etc/hobbitserver.cfg Modify the following. See help/howtograph.html TEST2RRD=3D"cpu=3Dla,disk,...,if_load" GRAPHS=3D"la,disk,if_load::1" The ::1 set the maxcount in order to make one graph form each rrd file creat= e. 5) In etc/hobbitcgi.cfg Modify the following. See hobbitsvc.cgi man CGI_SVC_OPTS=3D"--env=3D/data/hobbit/server/etc/hobbitserver.cfg =20 --no-svcid --history=3Dtop --multi-grahs=3Dif_load,if_err..." 6) The hardest part. The hobbit parsing doesn't remove html table table so you will see =20 many graph link. In order to fix than, you need to modify the hobbit source: lib/htmllog.c patch -p0 < htmllog.path Here is the path, this only set a new counter for all if_* services. This is allready working for the trends colunms because, it is =20 checking all rrd file in the directory. Henrik, do you have any tips to get the nice counter without editing =20 the source code of htmllog.c file ? That's all folks. --=20 Thanks for using xbgm# http://xbgm.sourceforge.net/ Please feedback. |

I've been working on templates for the Cisco Pix (525), IBM remote service adapter II, and baystack 42x, and I'm impressed at how devmon handles so much of the grunt work of handling SNMP data. I do have one pet peeve, however. Without thinking, I had used '*' instead of 'x' in a MATH transform and it took some time to realize why it wasn't working. Another unexpected effect of this behavior is that if an oid name contains a lower-case x it is converted to the multiplication symbol '*', leading to all kinds of errors (eg: {FooMa*} + {Ma*Bar}). Could it be possible to remove that 's/x/*/g' in dm_tests.pm and just use the intuitive, and non-[a-zA-Z], '*'? Would this break something (besides legacy templates) that I'm not aware of? I'm thinking mainly of cutting out the potential list traffic that will arise out of the confusion caused by these unexpected side effects. PS: Once I've ironed out some kinks, I expect to post the aforementioned templates. Thanks, -- S i m e o n B e r k l e y Systems Engineer Mcclatchy Interactive |

Dear Buchan, I apologize up front if I am mistaken, but it looks as though either: a) you are using the word 'sysdesc' in the oids file without defining its numeric oid first; b) the timeout and retry values in the devmon.cfg file are too short for your PIX; c) the box where you did the snmpwalk is not the the box on which devmon is running and there is a firewall (perhaps the PIX itself) blocking the snmp query. (a) is unlikely because you are knowledgeable and started with a working template, but just in case, do # snmpget -On -v 1 -c 'xxxx' pix.ip.address sysdesc.0 which will return the numeric value for the system descriptor which you can then put into your oids file. If (b), edit [/usr/local?]/devmon/devmon.cfg and increase the timeout and retry values. Good luck, Samuel Asher Buchan Milne wrote: > I am starting a template for a Cisco Pix (some tests can be taken straight > from say cisco-6509, but I'll add a few more), but devmon claims it can't > query the device when trying to --readbbhosts: > > [07-06-29@11:35:53] Querying new hosts using cid 'xxxx' and snmp v2 > [07-06-29@11:36:03] DEBUG SNMP: Dethawing data for kappa > [07-06-29@11:36:03] ERROR: snmpget kappa (no response received) > [07-06-29@11:36:03] kappa sysdesc = ::: UNDEFINED ::: > [07-06-29@11:36:13] Querying new hosts using cid 'xxxx' and snmp v1 > [07-06-29@11:36:23] DEBUG SNMP: Dethawing data for kappa > [07-06-29@11:36:23] ERROR: snmpget kappa (no response received) > [07-06-29@11:36:23] kappa sysdesc = ::: UNDEFINED ::: > [07-06-29@11:36:23] Could not query device: kappa > > > $ snmpwalk -v1 -c xxxx kappa sysDescr.0 > SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: Cisco Firewall Services Module Version 3.1(4) > $ snmpwalk -v2c -c xxxx kappa sysDescr.0 > SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: Cisco Firewall Services Module Version 3.1(4) > > > Anyone know what I'm missing here ? > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express > Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take > control of your XML. Your setup is pretty much like ours. Are you getting the same results = for all of your servers? Also, have you tried=20 querying the problematic OIDs on the servers in question using a = command-line snmp query? Curious. What chassis type & generation are the servers you are monitoring? We are using HP ProLiant DL360/80 and a few ML380s. We've had it running on G2 Proliants and upwards. Another question: How do you have hpasm configured? =20 Our configuration: No kernel tainting Enable snmp monitoring Enable storage monitoring Enable performance monitoring Disable hpsmh (shouldn't matter, but...) The only option that seems like it would really matter to me is the storage monitoring, and that seems like it would either be a "it works or it doesn't" deal, not a half-works kind of deal. -Eric -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... Hi Buchan, What version of the hpasm suite are you using to extend the snmp daemon? Does the 'dm' test show up under the hobbit host in hobbit? If so, that at least means that devmon is able to send data to the display server. Have you run devmon --readbbhosts yet? If so, try running it again in verbose mode (devmon -vv --readbbhosts) and see if it is able to discover the cisco 2800 router. I have my doubts that it will, to be honest, as the 2801 template specifically looks for a "c2801" string in the router system description. You could create your own 2800 template by entering the templates directory and copying the 2801 template subdirectory to 2800: cp -R cisco-2801 cisco-2800) And then editing the cisco-2800/specs file and changing the relevant text. There's no garuantee that it will all work, although there's a good chance that most of the tests will work. -Eric -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... The work around I use is hardcoding which devmon template to use via the BBTAG in the bb-hosts file, i.e. DEVMON:model(f5;bigip). Yes. That, unfortunately, is a hack. You'll have to manually specify the devmon template that you want to use (via the model() option in your bb-hosts). There are too many vendors out there that use the standard net-snmp daemon without modifying the sysDescr flag, so this becomes necessary. Regards, -Eric -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... [mailto:dev...@li...] On Behalf Of Tom Georgoulias Sent: Tuesday, June 19, 2007 7:37 AM To: devmon-support Subject: [Devmon] sysdescr problem with f5 bigip template We are evaluating a F5 BigIP 6800 and I was trying to monitor it with=20 devmon and the default f5-bigip template set distributed in the tarball. I knew something was amiss when the first column that showed up after=20 I pointed devmon at the bigip was called "raid", not "if_load". Turns out the sysdescr string that the big ip returns looks like this: SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 =3D STRING: Linux hostname.example.com=20 2.4.21-9.1.2.37.0smp #2 SMP Tue Apr 25 15:38:38 PDT 2006 i686 Having "Linux" in the string makes it match the compaq-server template,=20 not the f5-bigip . I'm trying to use Devmon 3.0 Beta 2 with a Cisco 2800 router. Thinking the 2801 is 'close' to the 2800, I'm using that template by specifying that device in bb-hosts. Is that a fair assessment? When I run devmon, I don't get any errors, but nothing shows up on Hobbit either. BBTYPE is set to HOBBIT and DISPSERV is set to localhost (which is where Devmon and Hobbit are both running). Also, does anyone have templates for a Cisco 3825? Thanks. -- Rich Smrcina VM Assist, Inc. I use a template I created myself, If you are using a template someone else made ( I do not think I published mine), I am not sure I can help you. Mine template is rather 'rough', not yet refined and polished, due to lack of time. I used the following MIBs for reference on my template: F5-BIGIP-COMMON-MIB.txt F5-BIGIP-LOCAL-MIB.txt F5-BIGIP-SYSTEM-MIB.txt snmpwalk does not always return all data a device makes available via SNMP. I believe that snmpwalk only provides data on MIBs that are installed on the device doing the query, when doing a global walk, i.e. "snmpwalk -v2c -cpublic 10.5.4.3". This behavior is different when you focus snmpwalk on a particular OID, i.e. "snmpwalk -v2c -cpublic 10.5.4.3 .1.3.6.1.4.1.3375.2.2.5.1.2.1.1". So I normally browse the MIBs to locate the OIDs I am interested in, then perform snmpwalks to look at the data contained. Hope I explained things clearly, ~Steve > -----Original Message----- > From: dev...@li...=20 > [mailto:dev...@li...] On=20 > Behalf Of Tom Georgoulias > Sent: Tuesday, June 19, 2007 8:38 AM > To: dev...@li... > Subject: Re: [Devmon] sysdescr problem with f5 bigip template >=20 >=20 > Aiello, Steve (GE, Corporate, consultant) wrote: > > Yes I have. Right now I have the specs file hard coded, but if we were to buy and deploy a pair of these I'd use your method. For those bipIPs, are the OIDs in the f5-bigip template still valid? I'm not getting any data at all for those, although I can do an snmpwalk of the bigip and get data for other stuff and I'm sure our sales engineer enabled snmp access for us. Only asking this stuff so I don't spend the next couple of hours redoing something that doesn't need to be done... Thanks, Tom -- Tom Georgoulias Systems Engineer McClatchy Interactive to...@mc... |
