Thanks Johann, It appears to be the correct one, set in devmon.cfg . How about snmp versions? How do I check what version (v1 or v2) is devmon using to contact the filer? Two mistakes I made. 1. display server's FQDN was set wrong. 2. "devmon --vvvv" wrong syntax prevented me from seeing above mistake. verbose mode should just have one dash not two. Hi, I just installed and started using devmon. I created a template for a SAN switch I want to monitor and the setup is working. I also monitor some BIG-IP's. For the big-ip's the detection is not working like it should be. sysDescr is not enough, so I'm looking for a way to extend the detection procedure. I also want to create graphs. There is rrd support in devmon, but only for TABLE:. I also want to create graphs for single values. On the hobbit server, you need extra scripts for the graphs. But there is a patch for hobbit 4.2.0 (the patches is included in 4.3.0) so you can send a trends message. This message specifies the rrd you want to be created with all needed options so no extra script is needed on the hobbit server. I think this is a more elegant way to create the rrd files. So, I want to hack devmon and add some features. At the same time, I don't want to interfer with other patches. So, is anyone working on updating devmon regarding rrd and to who can I send my patches ? Stef |

=20Hi, Could someone explain step 2, If I append rrd() to the TABLE option in the message file then the following error is logged by devmon. In looking at the man pages there is no rrd options mentioned. Bad rrd option '1' at /usr/local/devmon-0.3.0-beta2/templates/cisco-3750/if_load/message line 5 2) Then make sure, than the file devmon/templates/modele/if_load/message TABLE:rrd() This will show data in a htmltable and add rrd information in the status page. Thanks Craig -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... [mailto:dev...@li...] On Behalf Of xbgmsharp Sent: Friday, 13 July 2007 10:10 p.m. To: dev...@li... Subject: [Devmon] How to if_* graph from Devmon to Hobbit Hello, This mail describe how to graph all if_* data from Devmon to Hobbit. I am currently running hobbit 4.2.0/all-in-one patch and devmon 0.3-beta2 1) First you need a curently working hobbit and devmon. 2) Then make sure, than the file devmon/templates/modele/if_load/message TABLE:rrd() This will show data in a htmltable and add rrd information in the status page. In order to check, you should see RRD data information in the status page of the service corresponding to your devmon modele when showing source html. 3) Now make parse the data to create a rrd file (one par interfaces), this is done via extra-rrd.pl. In etc/hobbitlaunch.cfg [rrdstatus] =20 ENVFILE /data/hobbit/server/etc/hobbitserver.cfg =20 NEEDS hobbitd =20 CMD hobbitd_channel --channel=3Dstatus \ =20 --log=3D$BBSERVERLOGS/rrd-status.log hobbitd_rrd \ =20 --rrddir=3D$BBVAR/rrd \ =20 --extra-script=3D$BBHOME/ext/extra-rrd.pl \ =20 --extra-tests=3Dif_load In ext/extra-rrd.pl if ( $TESTNAME eq "if_load" ) { =20 # Analyze the message we got =20 foreach $line (@input) { =20 if ($line =3D~ /(^[A-Z].*) (\d+):(\d+)$/ ) { =20 # The RRD dataset definitions =20 print "DS:in:DERIVE:600:0:U\n"; =20 print "DS:out:DERIVE:600:0:U\n"; =20 # The filename =20 print "if_load_$1.rrd\n"; =20 # The data =20 print "$2:$3\n"; =20 } =20 } } 4) Modify etc/hobbitgraph.cfg [if_load] =20 FNPATTERN if_load(.*).rrd =20 TITLE Network Traffic =20 YAXIS Bits/second =20 DEF:in@RRDIDX@=3D@RRDFN@:in:AVERAGE =20 CDEF:inbytes@RRDIDX@=3Din@RRDIDX@,8,* =20 DEF:out@RRDIDX@=3D@RRDFN@:out:AVERAGE =20 CDEF:outbytes@RRDIDX@=3Dout@RRDIDX@,8,* =20 LINE1:inbytes@RRDIDX@#@COLOR@:@RRDPARAM@ In =20 GPRINT:inbytes@RRDIDX@:LAST: %8.2lf %s (cur) =20 GPRINT:inbytes@RRDIDX@:MAX: %8.2lf %s (max) =20 GPRINT:inbytes@RRDIDX@:MIN: %8.2lf %s (min) =20 GPRINT:inbytes@RRDIDX@:AVERAGE: %8.2lf %s (avg)\n =20 LINE1:outbytes@RRDIDX@#@COLOR@:@RRDPARAM@ Out =20 GPRINT:outbytes@RRDIDX@:LAST: %8.2lf %s (cur) =20 GPRINT:outbytes@RRDIDX@:MAX: %8.2lf %s (max) =20 GPRINT:outbytes@RRDIDX@:MIN: %8.2lf %s (avg) =20 GPRINT:outbytes@RRDIDX@:AVERAGE: %8.2lf %s (avg)\n 4) In etc/hobbitserver.cfg Modify the following. See help/howtograph.html TEST2RRD=3D"cpu=3Dla,disk,...,if_load" GRAPHS=3D"la,disk,if_load::1" The ::1 set the maxcount in order to make one graph form each rrd file create. 5) In etc/hobbitcgi.cfg Modify the following. See hobbitsvc.cgi man CGI_SVC_OPTS=3D"--env=3D/data/hobbit/server/etc/hobbitserver.cfg --no-svcid --history=3Dtop --multi-grahs=3Dif_load,if_err..." 6) The hardest part. The hobbit parsing doesn't remove html table table so you will see many graph link. In order to fix than, you need to modify the hobbit source: lib/htmllog.c patch -p0 < htmllog.path Here is the path, this only set a new counter for all if_* services. This is allready working for the trends colunms because, it is checking all rrd file in the directory. Henrik, do you have any tips to get the nice counter without editing the source code of htmllog.c file ? That's all folks. -- Thanks for using xbgm# http://xbgm.sourceforge.net/ Please feedback. #########################################################################= ############ Disclaimer: The information in this electronic mail message is confidential and may b= e legally privileged. Hi all,=20 I've done a search but I've found nothing on this on the archive and it could be interesting to anyone trying to understand why template copied don't work. Today I started to move all the object I had monitored with bb-xsnmp.pl to devmon and I got some object with a clear status that cannot get any data. On all the device list I've many old devices and devices probably with older version of IOS because they're externally managed and we cannot upgrade them. First of all it seems that if the device is discovered with snmpv1 (and not capable of snmpv2) and the template have a snmpver =3D 2 DEVMON try = to get the date using SNMPV2 instead of what is discovered (probably because this information is not saved on the DEVMON database on discovery). Second this regarding cisco it seems that the method of gathering CPUtime differs from version to version of IOS and if the oid is wrong the error will block completely also other test on that device. The oid for getting cpu are those: Version =09 Version IOS 12.2(3.5) or later IOS from 12.0(3)T to 12.2(3.5) IOS prior to 12.0(3)T MIB CISCO-PROCESS MIB CISCO-PROCESS MIB OLD-CISCO-CPU MIB Objects cpmCPUTotal5minRev cpmCPUTotal5min avgBusy5=20 (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8) (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.5) (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.58) cpmCPUTotal1minRev cpmCPUTotal1min avgBusy1=20 (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.7) (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.4) (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.57) cpmCPUTotal5secRev cpmCPUTotal5sec busyPer=20 (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.6) (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3) (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.56) The oldest ones (busyPer) seems to work also on newer devices while the newest don't work on oldest. This is a link to the web page that talk about CPU monitoring http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/SNMP/collect_cpu_util_snmp.html A third issue but I'm not sure on how and when it happen is that I seem to have a good number of core files generated by devmon on each run for example now I have 13 in the last 25 minutes: -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:35 core.15095 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:35 core.15026 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:34 core.14951 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:18 core.25031 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:17 core.21863 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:16 core.21847 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:16 core.21840 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:16 core.21812 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:10 core.14769 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:08 core.10720 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:07 core.10233 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:03 core.4657 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:02 core.1331 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:01 core.1326 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:00 core.1217 -rw------- 1 bb bb 12759040 Jul 30 23:00 core.1209 Doing some check it seems that it's the kill of the process exceding polling time as in this example also if some core seems to not appear (i don't have a core for the 15005 pid but i've for some 15026 and 15095: [07-07-30@23:36:23] Fork 12 (15005) exceeded poll time polling ciscona [07-07-30@23:36:23] Fork 12 (15005) exceeded poll time polling ciscona bb 14991 1 4 23:35 ? 00:00:06 devmon[master] bb 14993 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 14994 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 14995 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 14996 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 14997 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 14998 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 14999 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 15001 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 15002 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:01 devmon bb 15003 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 15004 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 15006 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 15007 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 15008 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 15009 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:01 devmon bb 15010 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:01 devmon bb 15011 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 15012 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 15013 14991 0 23:35 ? 00:00:00 devmon bb 15113 14991 0 23:36 ? 00:00:00 devmon I'm using devmon 0.3.0-beta2 and it's running on RHEL5 x86-64 with perl v5.8.8 built for x86_64-linux-thread-multi (the one shipped with RHEL5) Thanks for the really good program |

Hello, I am using Devmon since 4-5 months now and everything run very well. Recently I added a new host to my Hobbit configuration which needed to be monitored with SNMP, that box is very common in our society and until recently I had no problem to monitor it. Now I get with that new box an issue and I can not tell where it comes from. The box responds to snmpwalk and snmpget normally, is properly connected to the network, I am using the right community string and there are no problems with the template definition. The thing is that I get no response for certain oids, the log file says that it get no data for them and the debug mode with verbose at "1" told that there is "something" was expected and it got less than that. The line is something like: Expected : 22 Received : 20 I think the "expected, received" is for the number of oids. If anyone has an idea for a solution, please let me know.
