This email is to inform you about the release of version '1.1.6' of 'Linux Virtual Server' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/linuxvirtualserver/ The changes in this release are as follows: The slow timer indexes are now initialized correctly. It is now possible to start the master and backup sync daemons simultaneously, and SyncID support was added for filtering incoming sync messages. The method for retrieving information about the daemons was changed, and the 2.5.70 Linux kernel is now supported. Project description: The Linux Virtual Server Project is an Open Source project to cluster many real servers together into a highly available, high-performance virtual server. The LVS handles connections from clients and passes them on the the real servers (so-called Layer 4 switching) and can virtualize almost any TCP or UDP service, like HTTP, HTTPS, NNTP, FTP, DNS, ssh, POP3, IMAP4, SMTP, etc. It is fully transparent to the client accessing the virtual service. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. This email is to inform you about the release of version '22.5.5-beta2' of 'LILO' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/lilo/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release makes the transition to "large-memory" loading of extremely large initial ramdisks transparent to the user. Checks of the hard disks on a system should now handle problem situations of "duplicate volume IDs" in a smoother fashion. Careful avoidance of WinNT volume ID changes has been incorporated. The "mkrescue" utility now has a "--iso" option to make bootable CD rescue disks. Project description: LILO is a Boot loader for Linux/x86 and other PC operating systems. It is responsible for loading your Linux kernel from either a floppy or a hard drive and passing control to it. It is capable of booting beyond cylinder 1024 of a hard disk if the BIOS supports EDD packet call extensions to the int 0x13 interface. LILO can also be used to boot many other operating systems, including DOS, Windows (all versions), OS/2, and the BSD variants. The LILO distribution includes full source, documentation and support files. This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.0.11-20030609' of 'Postfix' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/postfix/ The changes in this release are as follows: Address verification probes can now follow a different route than ordinary mail. The queue file record reading loops in the pickup, cleanup, and in the queue manager daemons have been completely rewritten. All the fixes and workarounds in the 2.0.11 release are included. Project description: Postfix is an attempt to provide an alternative to the widely-used Sendmail program. Postfix attempts to be fast, easy to administer, and hopefully secure, while at the same time being sendmail compatible enough to not upset your users. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. > > Anyone running a distro w/"dialog" installed want to take a peek? > > I would like to. OK, soon. First, I want to get a help system started for the INSTALL_* and START_* env. items. I have a question on the best way to do that. With Dialog, I have a couple options. I can add a help button, and have it go to a page full of help info. (like lxconfig/menuconfig does now) Or, I can add a single line of text on the bottom line of the menu that automatically changes as the person arrows to the different items. Or we can do both. Personally I like the single line option because it'll be a LOT easier to program. Do you think one 80 character line is enough info for help? - BS |

I'm just giving you a hard time. :-) I've been working on rewriting the setup script using "dialog" (the real dialog, not lxdialog). It looks MUCH BETTER (IMO). I may upload a copy on the ftp site for people to look at before I add it to DL. It'll need to be run on a distro other than DL with "dialog" installed. I know Redhat comes with "dialog", and I suspect other distro's do too. Anyone running a distro w/"dialog" installed want to take a peek? - BS |

OK, before I add it I'm going to do a little more research, and actually get a script started using "dialog", to make sure it'll do the job. When I add it, is it OK to add it as part of the base distro??? (NOT selectable in menuconfig) So the setup script will always run. - BS |

Note, it may appear that I'm talking to myself here. But, I'm not crazy, really! ;-) > IMO, we also badly need a way to detect network cards, instead of making > the user input or select a module. I'm fairly stuck there. I'll look into how some other distributions do this, later. I want to get a basic menu system built first. > > Doesn't need to be much and you can "steel" it from "make menuconfig", > > which is stolen from the Linux kernel config. ;-) > > The first problem I noticed is lxdialog doesn't seem to exist on the CD I've been looking a lot at "lxdialog" a lot. Due to lack of documentation that I can find, I've been reverse engineering the menuconfig script, and have even looked at the C code. I think I understand how it works now. > I see Redhat has a package called "dialog" which lxdialog is based on. Then I started comparing the functionality of "lxdialog" and "dialog". For my use on a "setup" program, the standard "dialog" program ( http://hightek.org/dialog/ ) would be much nicer. "dialog" is a more powerful program, and would make the shell script a lot easier and smaller. The largest advantage I noticed is "dialog" can do check-lists and radio-lists with one program call. It lets you [un]select items with the space bar all within a single program execution, and returns all the item(s) selected. You don't have to put it in a shell script loop and redraw the screen every time a new item is [de]selected. Since we need to add either "lxdialog" or "dialog" to the distribution so it exists on the CD for my program, I recommend we add "dialog". Thoughts? Comments? Questions? ... Go ahead and add it? :-) - BS |
