All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/lilo/ The changes in this release are as follows: Enhancements to the -M and -A switches to handle activating and booting from extended partitions. The 'mkrescue' --iso option has been given a special flag for CD booting. Cleaner cautionary messages and interaction when handling VolumeID changes to avoid Windows NT conflicts. Project description: LILO is a Boot loader for Linux/x86 and other PC operating systems. It is responsible for loading your Linux kernel from either a floppy or a hard drive and passing control to it. It is capable of booting beyond cylinder 1024 of a hard disk if the BIOS supports EDD packet call extensions to the int 0x13 interface. LILO can also be used to boot many other operating systems, including DOS, Windows (all versions), OS/2, and the BSD variants. The LILO distribution includes full source, documentation and support files. This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.0-pre5' of 'grsecurity' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/grsecurity/ The changes in this release are as follows: Changes in this release include bugfixes and several new object modes that control the creation or modification of files to be setuid or setgid, as well as the creation or deletion of objects. This enables the administrator to create more fine-grained policies. It has been released for the 2.4.21 kernel. gradm has been updated to 2.0-pre5 for this release. Project description: grsecurity is a complete security system for Linux 2.4 that implements a detection/prevention/containment strategy. It prevents most forms of address space modification, confines programs with least privilege via its process-based MAC system, hardens syscalls, provides full-featured auditing, and implements many of the OpenBSD randomness features. It was written for performance, ease-of-use, and security. The MAC system has an intelligent learning-mode, and all of grsecurity supports a feature that logs the IP of the attacker that causes an alert or audit. We don't want to get it running with any distro, we want to be able to = mess up the build system without interfering with the "real" OS. By being based on one defined build system (LFS), it should be fairly e= asy to port DL to another platform (e.g. PPC). >I understand that we chroot to a LFS system, used to build DL, but how= >much of the base LFS system goes into the final DL ISO? By doing this we asure, that we use the correct version of a program. Binutils or GCC are a good example. >And how is the LFS tar image on the DL FTP site created? After th= at I upload it to the FTP Server. cya Heiko = |

I think this is a great idea. Even better, get is build area and compile it yourselves, once. Then I can use your packages to update eLSD and build SOY/Sprout. You could give back to this developer suggestions from the user world of DL. Compiling for yourself has always been the rule for security applications plus I have earlier suggested gcc updates to help w/ the buffer overflow problems. Scanning the security alerts, I see normal commands as being listed as security holes. --- Bruce Smith <bw...@ar...> wrote: > > >I just found this: > > >http://www.linux4geeks.de/ > > > > > >Should we ask them if we can get access to their build system? I understand that we chroot to a LFS system, used to build DL, but how much of the base LFS system goes into the final DL ISO? Are parts of the LFS system copied over to DL, or is LFS just a tool to build DL? And how is the LFS tar image on the DL FTP site created? Is it just downloaded from the LFS web site, or custom created by DL developers? Thanks, Bruce. |

Hi! I just found this: http://www.linux4geeks.de/ Should we ask them if we can get access to their build system? This way we could update our base LFS system much more easily, don't you think so? -- MfG / Regards Friedrich Lobenstock ____________________________________________________________________ Friedrich Lobenstock Linux Services Lobenstock URL: http://www.lsl.at/ Email: fl...@fl... ____________________________________________________________________ |
