I don't think it is the CHROOT jail. Look at the following memory numbers IPTables+DHCP+Postfix Memory: Total Used Free Shared Buffers Cached Mem: 61112 57556 3556 0 1080 46672 +ClamAV Memory: Total Used Free Shared Buffers Cached Mem: 61112 59048 2064 0 788 43084 +ClamAV+SAGATOR Memory: Total Used Free Shared Buffers Cached Mem: 61112 57016 4096 0 644 43008 Note: Kernel's Out of Memory process kill had already started killing processes by this point. In fact, when I went to shutdown SAGATOR I got an error that it was not running and a check of the system logs showed that the out of memory process killer had killed it! So this is basically after the CHROOT jail. So it doesn't appear to be the chroot jail. Dean Nedelman TimeLord Consulting |

[Using the 09-21 release...] I have a pretty simple setup: IPtables, DHCP, and Postfix (only used for outgoing). The machine I run this on is a Pentium II 400Mhz with 64MB of memory. When I run procinfo (after the machine has been up and running, it tells me for memory that there is 61112 Total, 57244 Used, and 3868 Free. (It also indicates [if it is important] 1080 for Buffers and 46440 for Cached.) When I run df, I see: Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on ... shmfs 41943040 19560 41923480 1% /shm Now, here are my questions: o If I'm reading the df output correctly, does that say it is using 41 GIGABYTES for shmfs? o Do we potentially have the shmfs incorrectly sized? Would that return additional free space? Note: My goal is to enable ClamAV and SAGATOR. When I tried it, I ran out of memory. Dean Nedelman TimeLord Consulting |

Otherwise it aborts! :-) - BS |

Yeah, I was afraid of that. (especially since your LILO script didn't run on my system ;) Please try it again. I statically link the grub binary now (in CVS). - BS |

This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.11' of 'distcc' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/distcc/ The changes in this release are as follows: A new GNOME-based graphical compilation monitor was added. Several documentation and portability issues were also fixed. Project description: distcc is a parallel build system that distributes compilation of C/C++/ObjC code across machines on a network. It can be set up in just a few minutes and makes builds up to ten times faster. It does not require machines to share a filesystem or have the same libraries or header files, and installation does not need superuser privileges. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. Sincerely, freshmeat.net |

This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.60' of 'SpamAssassin' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/spamassassin/ The changes in this release are as follows: The Bayes system was overhauled. The DB storage format was changed, and the journal/expire and tokenization algorithms were improved. spamd now supports UNIX-domain sockets. Better HTML parsing, detection of "invisible text", and other obfuscation techniques. DNS Blacklists were also overhauled with the addition of lots of new lists, removal of defunct lists, better timeout handling, and better header parsing. More flexible header and report rewriting options were implemented. Perl taint mode is now enabled by default for increased security. Project description: SpamAssassin is a mail filter that uses a wide range of heuristic tests on mail headers and body text to identify spam. Once identified, the mail can then be optionally tagged as spam for later filtering. It provides a command line tool to perform filtering, a client-server system to filter large volumes of mail, and Mail::SpamAssassin, a set of Perl modules that implement a Mail::Audit plugin -- allowing SpamAssassin to be used in a Mail::Audit filter, a spam-protection proxy POP/IMAP server, or almost anywhere. This email is to inform you about the release of version '3.1.13' of 'procps' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/procps/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release gives ps working -L, -T, and H options for NPTL thread display, as well as the beginnings of m and -m support. This feature requires a 2.6.0-test6 kernel, or a 2.6.0-test5 kernel with a patch available from the procps Web site. Older kernels are still supported, of course. Project description: procps is a package of utilities which includes ps, vmstat, top, w, skill, snice, pgrep, pkill, free, sysctl, pmap, uptime, and kill. These utilities report what is running, who is logged in, how long the system has been running, and what is using up memory. They can be used to kill processes and change run-time kernel configuration values. Well, it wouldn't be a new release if I didn't complain about something, would it? :-) -Bug #1 Changed Root Un-Mounting old Filesystems umount: /mnt: device is busy -Bug #2 (Got the error in two different places. The first one was while doing "updating module configuration") depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.22-grsec/kernel/drivers/usb/pwcx.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.22-grsec/kernel/drivers/usb/pwcx.o -Bug #3 Setting GRSecurity parameters: /etc/init.d/rc3.d/S99grsecurity: line 24: /proc/sys/kernel/grsecurity/altered_pings: No such file or directory -Bug #4 grsec: attempted resource overstep by requesting 4096 for RLIMIT_CORE against limit 0 by (master:1256) UID(0) EUID(0), parent (init:1) UID(0) EUID(0) -Bug #5 INIT: Id "8" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes (This is procinfo. When I go to that window, I see a lot of errors: "Please specify terminal type". I get this error in both "standard" mode and "VESA" mode.) -Possible bug Enabling SAGATOR and ClamAV induced Linux's Out Of Memory process killer. My machine has 64MB. [Note: This was before I even started Postfix! Though the Postfix jail had been created.] -Bug #6 On Shutdown: Unmounting file systems...umount: /dev/root busy - remounted read-only -Bug #7 And guess what - it STILL didn't powerdown the system!
