I turned off grsecurity in menuconfig, did NOT select XFS and got the same thing. grsecurity keeps killing processes on my server, so I need to get rid of it. There is no difference between the two (in this case)
except for the "-f" cp option.
copy_files is a function defined in build/script/functions
copy_files()
{
for FILE in $1
do
cp -dpfR $FILE $2
done
}

The first one is right, the second one will not do what you want.
The second one would copy files under $CDDIR/usr/usr/files.
(double /usr which is wrong)
copy_files $WORKDIR/tmp/usr/* $CDDIR/usr
would work correctly (except for hidden files/directories)
Confused yet? :-)

I need to copy some files (kernel modules) on the install stage of the alsa-driver script to $CDDIR/lib/modules/2.4.22. What is the difference between these two lines and which one should i use? cp -dpR $WORKDIR/tmp/* $CDDIR || exit 1 copy_files $WORKDIR/tmp/lib/modules/ $CDDIR/ || exit 1 another one: copy_files $WORKDIR/tmp/usr $CDDIR/ || exit 1 is the same as copy_files $WORKDIR/tmp/usr $CDDIR/usr || exit 1 ? -- -- gnupg keyfingerprint -- 48AF 5BF9 8F54 2966 64CC 2327 7CD0 DD91 B09D 5799 -- Use of a keyboard or mouse may be linked to serious injuries or disorders. Hey, the XFS part is not maintained, since it's not working with grsecurity. you have to get the latest patches and drivers. cya Heiko Bruce Smith wrote: >I turned off grsecurity and selected XFS (mrproper, new lfssystem) >This is on a different PC than the previous ntp abort: > > >patching file arch/i386/kernel/vm86.c >Hunk #8 succeeded at 748 (offset 3 lines). >patching file arch/i386/defconfig >patching file init/main.c >Hunk #1 succeeded at 74 (offset 5 lines). >Hunk #3 succeeded at 568 with fuzz 2 (offset 8 lines). >patching file Makefile >Hunk #1 succeeded at 57 (offset 3 lines). >Hunk #2 FAILED at 133. >Hunk #3 succeeded at 235 (offset 2 lines). >Hunk #4 succeeded at 310 (offset 4 lines). >1 out of 4 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file Makefile.rej >can't find file to patch at input line 42991 >Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option? >The text leading up to this was: >-------------------------- >|*** /usr/src/linux-2.4.20/./drivers/sgi/char/shmiq.c Fri Nov 29 >01:53:14 2002 >|--- ./drivers/sgi/char/shmiq.c Fri Nov 29 06:51:29 2002 >-------------------------- >File to patch: > > |

I turned off grsecurity and selected XFS (mrproper, new lfssystem) This is on a different PC than the previous ntp abort: patching file arch/i386/kernel/vm86.c Hunk #8 succeeded at 748 (offset 3 lines). patching file arch/i386/defconfig patching file init/main.c Hunk #1 succeeded at 74 (offset 5 lines). This email is to inform you about the release of version '1.00' of 'Linux-VServer' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/vserver/ The changes in this release are as follows: Project Name and Leadership have changed. This is the first release of the stable branch and should be compatible with the previous 0.23 version. Project description: Linux-VServer allows you to create virtual private servers and security contexts which operate like a normal Linux server, but allow many independent servers to be run simultaneously in one box at full speed. All services, such as ssh, mail, Web, and databases, can be started on such a VPS, without modification, just like on any real server. Each virtual server has its own user account database and root password and doesn't interfere with other virtual servers. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. Sincerely, freshmeat.net |

You can't know everything. ;-)
The problem is, I could tell you, but then I'd have to shoot you....

So far I saw 3 types:
1) Card reader for the IDE bus, they seem to act as harddisks
2) Card reader for PCMCIA, I don't know how they behave, but I guess
it's the same.
3) Card reader for USB, ok everybody knows those. But there seem to be
differences, at least the one I have doesn't work well under Linux.
You need a special driver, which is always outdated. But I saw a
couple of 6in1 readers (and those types), which seem to work fine (at
least that's what they write).
I'm still hoping for a sponsor, who's paying the different readers and a
big enough CF card, so we can include this functionality.
cya

Dear mailing list, I've been looking for something other than USB for a machine which won't boot from USB flash. So I started browsing around for ATA flash. I've never seen one before and don't really know anything about them. It appears from what I've seen on web sites that ATA flash has a PCMCIA interface??? I want to put this in a tower, not a laptop. What am I missing here? Do I need a PCMCIA PCI adapter in my tower or something? Are there other ATA flash cards that plug into a 40 pin IDE controller? signed - confused in Kalamazoo ... :-) |

Otherwise there is no security on the media. If that's the case, I don't see a need for more than one partition. Then I think the save-config script should remount the stick RW before saving (-oremount), and then remount it as RO when it's done. The user can manually change the switch on the stick to RW before running save-config, and switch the stick back to RO when done (just like a floppy). I've never actually tried this, and I'm hoping there isn't a problem changing the switch while the USB is plugged in. - BS |

couple of days ago i asked about how the save-config worked on a usb stick (when using install-on-usb). Today i've noticed that the usb stick is mounted rw, so save-config just writes the .tar.bz2 to the stick. it could be better if we partition the usb stick in two, one partition remains ro (the main one, as a cdrom) and the other to save the config, only mounted when is needed. yes, no, bruce? :) -- -- gnupg keyfingerprint -- 48AF 5BF9 8F54 2966 64CC 2327 7CD0 DD91 B09D 5799 -- Use of a keyboard or mouse may be linked to serious injuries or disorders.
