Hello again :) Just one more think, would it be possible to select the message text using the mouse in the message window without needing to select "Edit"? I think this is the only feature that I still miss :) Sometimes I do a lot of copy n' paste trough aplications and would be easier if I could just select it with the mouse. But I suppose this is the widget fault isn't it? Egon PS: By the way, I understood why I had that problem with my webmail, too bad it does not work correctly :( -- ps...@on... |

A bug while reading a message sent from cscmail-users just a while ago : Argument "Fri, 29 Sep 2000 09:48:27 Brazil/East" isn't numeric in numeric ne (!=) at /usr/local/lib/cscmail/csclib.pl line 212. ----------- I noticed that when I inserted a new account into the accounts table, I misspelled the account description (or it could have been the friendly name, I'm not sure). The program modified its "check mail in ... " popup menu. When I went back and fixed the spelling, the popup menu did not change to reflect this. Could updating the "Check" popup menu be done before you close the "Accounts" window? (Mind you, when I restarted the program instead, it grabbed the correct values). It seems as though it keeps the old values in memory and/or does not update the menu at the correct time. ----------- I would just like to apologize for what might seem a total intrusion on the project being coded here. I just obtained this program and it has everything I need. I'm going to keep it and use it, but I'd also like bugs to be squashed (as do anyone, really) :O) Cheers, Wes _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hello All, I use a lot the WebMail services of my ISP at work, but when I send a message to myself at home, CSCMail can´t recognize it´s date and in the message list it appears as "Invalid date". The same happens when anybody try to send me a message from this webmail service. If I run cscmail from terminal cscmail complains that the date is not numeric. Actually, I´m using it to write this message right now, does anybody also receives this message as "Invalid date"?? By the way, I´m using CSCMail 1.7.9 Well, thanks! I had the same problem, but it turn out to be a MySQL misconfiguration I think. I´d never used a DB in linux before so I did not bother trying to fix it, so I just installed postgres and it worked fine. Try to run CSCMail in terminal and you see a lot of MySQL errors. (if it is the same problem I had). Post them here! But if I were you I would disable "Delete messages from server" untill this is fixed. I run RH 6.2, with PERL 5.6.0 installed from the source tarballs. I obtained the CVS version (to date that is 1.7.9) of CSCMail and obtained the needed modules through the CSCInstaller.pl script but didn't "install the tar or RPM archive", instead installing the CVS version. I have GTK 1.2.8 and the recent GNOME libraries (from the 1.2.2 source archives from the official site) One thing to note here: the HTML::Parser that is downloaded by the install script does not exist (it is in fact a greater version, 3.13 I believe, that does exist) and the same with the URI::URL module (1.09 exists, not 1.07 as stated). Could this be looked into? When I tried setting up my accounts with the CSV DB, the Account Listing Window came up, however, when I created a new account, the titlebar of the window went above the physical bounds of my monitor. Of course this could be caused by Enlightenment and/or the GTK toolkit itself, but, in general, there are people with < 800x600 displays still out there. I entered my information (I guessed what fields I was editing) and attempting to grab my email with the "SEND/RECEIVE" button - the window came up and proceeded to get my email (from this account actually). I had 3 messages. CSC started grabbing the first one, but then quit just as it reached the end and did not proceed to download the 2 remaining messages. The message it did (presumably) download did NOT show up in my inbox listing. I tried these same steps again running from a clean slate with a MySQL DB (I have a local copy running), and the same happened. Is this an error? Am I doing something wrong? All this is frustrating me to no end - CSC has everything I want in an email client (and there aren't many GOOD clients out there)... but I can't seem to use it correctly....HELP! I think they should have the same > defaults? Well, the installer takes the same approach as RPM's do. RPM's by default go to /usr but tarballs by default go into /usr/local Personally, I think all non-distro provided programs should go in /usr/local and I will change the installer... I plan on re-writing the installer from scratch for the 1.8.0 release anyway... Muhri did a good job in a hurry when he wrote it, but it assumes too much... > Now I can run cscmail, however when I use the GtkHTML Widget and try to open a > folder, cscmail crashes with the following message: > Usage: Gtk::HTML::begin(html, url) at /usr/local/bin/cscmail line 1865. Yes, one of the drawbacks to depending on developmental libs (such as GtkHTML) is that when they change, we change. CSCMail 1.7.x uses the new (well, new for a few months now) interface to GtkHTML... You need to upgrade your GtkHTML, as well as your GtkHTML-Perl bindings. -CZ |

The reason is that I did not care for the installation pathes when upgrading and did not delete my .cscmailrc The problem is that the installer script uses /usr as its default path but "make install" put all the stuff in /usr/local so I ended up in the wrong dirs and excutables and libs at several places. Date: Wed Sep 20 13:00:00 EST 2000 (countzero) Rolled version up to 1.7.9 Fixed several nagging glitches: A) No more "extra blank line" at the top of all messages in the compose message window. B) Changed "ctrl-c" to "alt-c" in the keybindings for the compose message window so that the arrow keys can work in the To: and Cc: fields again. C) Removed the "extra space" in the inserting of the quote character, if you want a space, make your quote character include it (eg: "> " instead of ">") D) Removed wrapping of quotes prior to inserting them into the compose message window. The whole message will still get wrapped once it is sent, but I think this may look better overall. Let me know how you like/hate this change. E) Removed %f replacement in the MIME-types editor... edit all MIME types and remove the %f ... we now call "command" "filename" ... Working on a more elegant colution to this, but it was needed so that "filename" could be properly quoted so that attachements with spaces in them get handled correctly. Also, running "command" "filename" is "safer" and no shell gets spawned... (if you run "command filename" Perl spawns a shell to handle the line, if you run "command" "filename" perl simple runs "command" and passes the rest on to it.) Anyway, if this causes problems because you had MIME entries such as "tar -xzf %f" or whatever and you need those commandline arguements, let me know, and I will make a more ellegant solution... Removing the %f is just a quick hack I did so I could deal with some attachments I got that had spaces in the filename. I think thats it... there might be some other stuff I did that I don't remember, but those are the major things. -CZ |

Anyway... this new method is better than >before... Although it might seem strange I do infact regulary get e-mails of this kind were I have a text/html body and an additional text attachment. So I guess in the long run it wil be necessary as you say to add a method to check the contents between a text body and text attachment and not by default to disgard the text attachment. Don't lose too much sleep over it for I'm sure that I am in a small minority. CSCMail is great and I love using it. Jethro |

Changelog entry: Date: Thu Sep 14 13:28:00 EST 2000 (countzero) More lil bugfixes... 1) Added <div align="left"> and </div> to the top and bottom of all mail, to fix the bug in "broken" html viewers (such as GtkHTML and CscHTML) that don't properly reset alignment from one document to the next. If someone sent you a document with a <div align="center"> and forgot to </div> it, then all mail after that would be aligned center... not good 2) Stripped <body> </body> tags from mail and add them back in after we add our image and attachment links. Prior to this, we would simple look for </html> and then replace it with $images</html> for inline image viewing, and we would search for </body> (why??? I didn't code that part.. consistancy is a good thing people...) and replace it with $attachments</body> ... of course, if a message didn't HAVE a </body> tag, then the attachment links wouldn't show up... (some HTML mail doesn't bother with <body> </body> So, now, we strip <body> and </body> and then look for <html> and replace it with <html><body><div align="left"> and then we look for </html> and replace it with <div align="left">$images<br>$attachments</div></div></body></html> so that pretty much guarantees that everything will look right... (we do the second alignment in case the message has centered us again, since we want the attachment links and images left aligned...) TODO: Gonna play with setting up a lil table for the attachments, (like Netscape does) ... we'll see if I keep it... -CZ |

They are in CVS ... so you must use CVS to checkout module cscmail-1.7.x .. I haven't packaged a snapshot in a while, maybe tomorrow I will do a 1.7.9 version boost and do another snapshot.... but otherwise, just follow the CVS instructions on sourceforge to do a checkout... -CZ |

PRW was overheard mumbling something about this on 13 Sep 2000 02:40:41 MST > I've been working with the CSV database but now want to change to MySql. > How do I do this so CSC 1.7.8 will recognize the database. > > Thanks > Paul There is a script in cscmail/migration-scripts called dbswitch.pl that will handle this for you... Step one: install DBD::mysql via CPAN or tarball so that you have the correct perl drivers for MySQL Step Two: make an empty DB that is the same as your username. Step Three: cd to the cscmail directory ./migration-scripts/dbswitch.pl CSV mysql This MUST be run from your cscmail base directory (where csclib.pl is sitting) since it uses csclib.pl to figure out the most current db structure. Then edit ~/.cscmailrc and change DatabaseDriver: CSV to DatabaseDriver: mysql (You may need to put in a username and password too....) -CZ |
