Date: Mon Nov 06 01:59:00 EST 2000 (countzero) Another change to text2html (in csclib.pl) Added check for & symbols and convert to & so things like typed into a text message show up as " " and not " " |

Date: Mon Nov 06 01:51:00 EST 2000 (countzero) Fixed some issues in text2html (in csclib.pl) Basically, re-did the quote colorization code to fix the "first line" colorization bug (previously, if the first line of a message was quoted, it would not be properly colorized) Also switched to using <pre> tags to keep text formatted properly (We used to simply replace \t with 8 's and that is quite crufty...) |

Around Sat, 4 Nov 2000 10:59:34 +1100 (EST), I thought I heard David Price say: > Just clarify from my last e-mail the script I was refering > to as the first script I tried was the one from the cscmail > website. Also I assumed that the script had stopped working > because after 20 minutes the dialog box would not redraw > itself and all the processes launched by the script were > drawing zero CPU resources and had been for quite some time. I have just done this install.. And yes, after like 10 min's I decided it was dead as well (Athlon 750, 256 megs).. So, I installed 1.7.8... Then ran the installer for 1.7.9.. I seem to remeber cd /root and then compiling the html parser by hand some where in there (was a long night after a long week).. I know it's not overly helpfull, except to verify there are issues when installing on 7.0 and that it can be dome (I'm replying from 1.7.9 now).. -- Homer Parker LAN/WAN/Wireless, PC Sales/Service Linux, OS/2, Windows9x, Windows NT Support PC Services 129 W 8th #101 Russell, KS 67665 785.483.7602 hp...@pc... http://www.pcsrvc.com |

Just clarify from my last e-mail the script I was refering to as the first script I tried was the one from the cscmail website. Also I assumed that the script had stopped working because after 20 minutes the dialog box would not redraw itself and all the processes launched by the script were drawing zero CPU resources and had been for quite some time. There are, however, some things maybe you could help me with. In summary order. 1) What version of cscmail will the script from cscmail website attempt to install 2) Is the script that comes with the version 1.7.9 tarball more recent than the one on the website? 3) Given that all 3 scripts I have tried (the one form the CSCmail website, the one with 1.6.1 and the one with 1.7.9) give me the same result I gather my only option is to install the HTML::Parser stuff and anything else the script can't seem to get. So what is CPAN and what files am I looking for? 4) Where are the cschtml files available from? Thanks in advance David On 03 Nov 2000 11:27:37 EST Steven Kordik <csc...@li...> wrote: > On Fri, 3 Nov 2000 15:53:50 +1100 (EST), David Price said: > > > OK here is my problem > > > > I run Redhat 7.0 > > I haven't done any RH 7.0 testing with CSCMail, but I doubt there should be any > problems... > > > When I try to use the installer script that is in the > > downloads page I got errors (as listed in the FAQ) > > So I downloaded the gnome-perl bindings are tried to compile > > and install these. > > What errors did you get from the installer script? > > > In order to do that I had to install binaries and > > development packages of Gtkhtml, bonobo, gnomeprint, libs > > and gal. > > ARGH!!!!!!!! you didn't need to install ANY of this... Hi all Now I know that's I've probably missed something obvious and self-kick worthy but... I'm getting the following error running ./migration-scripts/dbswitch.pl CSV Pg DBD::Pg::st execute failed: ERROR: pg_atoi: error in "<example text>": can't parse "<example text>" The tables are creating with no problem, I've added the bcc to messages, and query and body to boxlist. The problem appears to occur when the dbswitch.pl is trying to shift the actual "content" as it were. Any thoughts? Jak |

OK here is my problem I run Redhat 7.0 When I try to use the installer script that is in the downloads page I got errors (as listed in the FAQ) So I downloaded the gnome-perl bindings are tried to compile and install these. In order to do that I had to install binaries and development packages of Gtkhtml, bonobo, gnomeprint, libs and gal. Once all this was done I got through the comile and install of the gnome-perl bindings so back to the install script. which returned the results of: [root@co3011387-a CSCMail]# ./CSCMailInstaller.pl Found Gtk::XmHTML Found Date::Manip Found DBI Found Text::CSV_XS Found SQL::Statement Found DBD::CSV Found MIME::Base64 Fetching HTML::Parser Compiling HTML::Parser The dialog boxes return the following information at which point the script hangs. One dialog says "Compiling HTML::Parser the other says "Generating makefile for HTML::Parser" if I use the same script but the version that comes with the 1.6.1 sources I get [root@co3011387-a cscmail-1.6.1]# ./CSCMailInstaller.pl Found Gtk::XmHTML Found Date::Manip Found DBI Found Text::CSV_XS Found SQL::Statement Found DBD::CSV Found MIME::Base64 Fetching HTML::Parser Compiling HTML::Parser sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/HTML-Parser-3.07: No such file or directory sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/HTML-Parser-3.07: No such file or directory sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/HTML-Parser-3.07: No such file or directory Fetching IO::Wrap Compiling IO::Wrap sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/IO-stringy-1.210: No such file or directory sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/IO-stringy-1.210: No such file or directory sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/IO-stringy-1.210: No such file or directory Fetching MIME::Parser Compiling MIME::Parser sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/MIME-tools-4.124: No such file or directory sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/MIME-tools-4.124: No such file or directory sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/MIME-tools-4.124: No such file or directory Found Mail::Header Found MIME::Types Fetching URI::URL Compiling URI::URL sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/URI-1.05: No such file or directory sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/URI-1.05: No such file or directory sh: cd: /root/cscmailbuild/URI-1.05: No such file or directory Found IO::Socket Found Lingua::Ispell Fetching CSCMail 1.6.1 When I select the Start CSCMail button I get. Hello all, Whenever I receive an e-mail with another e-mail attached, I received an archive named msg-***-***.doc and if I want to read it, I need to save it and then import it again to cscmail. Is there an easier and faster way of reading those e-mails? (For example, just using the "view" button). Thanks! -- ps...@on... |

Oliver Bienert: I just took a look at my code, and realized I had made a subtle change to my local csclib.pl without commiting it to cvs... you should definately do a cvs update on your 1.7.x code, as I suspect my changes might fix your problem... Let me know? -Steve |

That is interesting... I had no problem importing the file you sent to the list... You might want to do a fresh CVS checkout of CSCMail... make sure your running the most recent 1.7.9 code... What I am running is in CVS so if you update, you'll be using the same version as me... Also, make sure you don't have two copies of csclib.pl laying around (say, if you did an upgrade from 1.6.1 in /usr/lib and then put 1.7.x in /usr/local/lib) This kind of "wierd" error can be caused by a version mis-match... I am going to add code later today so that CSCMail will check the version in csclib.pl and give a warning/error if there is a mismatch... > Starting from a shellprompt, there are no messages at all, indicating some > errors, it just says "HTML Widget is: GtkHTML", which is a normal > statusmessage, isn't it? Yes, that is a "normal" debug/status message > When I click on file import, I can see a little widget for a very short time, > saying something like "Transfer...", but afterwards the imported message still > doesn't get listed. And still no error messages at all. Yeah, there wouldn't be an error message if it simply doesn't find a "valid" RFC compliant e-mail message in the file... It just silently ignores non-mail... > Very odd. > > And another behavior, that I observed today: > Now, I don't delete messages from server. If so, some messages appear twice (or three times, if again > downloaded) but some not! For example, this message from you which I reply to > at the moment, still shows only once. Whats this? That is very odd... I will admit that the "dupe checking" code was not written by me, and the last time I looked at it, it was a complete mess. It is on my "todo" list to re-write dupe checking from scratch... (Yet another, post-1.8.0 thing I need to get done) > Have the feeling it appears only with my gmx account, but that may be but by > chance, it is the last account to be checked in my list of accounts. If you don't mind, please see if you can isolate this. Under "Mail"->"Accounts" turn off "Include in Full Mail check" for the GMX account, and see if you still have problems... Then turn off all of your accounts EXCEPT the gmx account, etc... If you can isolate it down to the gmx account, then we may be dealing with a not 100% POP compliant server (or /shudder/ a bug in CSCMail's POP code)... if so, (and I dunno if this is possible or not) if you could get me a test account with GMX somehow, I could delve into it and figure out what needs to be done to support GMX? -Steve |

I think cscmail indicates the messages by their message-number. The bug with the mails that get not downloaded (in 1.6.1) bases on that I think. Since this error is corrected there may be a message with the same message-id, maybe you already downloaded the message and now its sticking somewhere in your folders. just a suggestion, hope it helps anyways, Daniel > No, it does not show on the list :-( > AND I am not able to import the wrongMessage.txt into cscmail ??? > Starting from a shellprompt, there are no messages at all, indicating > some > errors, it just says "HTML Widget is: GtkHTML", which is a normal > statusmessage, isn't it? > When I click on file import, I can see a little widget for a very short > time, > saying something like "Transfer...", but afterwards the imported message > still > doesn't get listed. No, it does not show on the list :-( AND I am not able to import the wrongMessage.txt into cscmail ??? Starting from a shellprompt, there are no messages at all, indicating some errors, it just says "HTML Widget is: GtkHTML", which is a normal statusmessage, isn't it? When I click on file import, I can see a little widget for a very short time, saying something like "Transfer...", but afterwards the imported message still doesn't get listed. And still no error messages at all. Very odd. And another behavior, that I observed today: Now, I don't delete messages from server. So, when I forget to delete manually via browserinterface, the next time I fetch mail this messages will be downloaded again. If so, some messages appear twice (or three times, if again downloaded) but some not! For example, this message from you which I reply to at the moment, still shows only once. Whats this? Well, this is odd.. I imported the "wrongMessage.txt" file into CSCMail and it displayed correctly... So I think maybe the bug is in the mail transfer, not the MIME decoding... when you get the message in CSCMail (via POP) it shows on the list, but doesn't decode properly, right? if so, please do a "file"->"save" on that message and send me that... this will let me see what is different in the version POP downloaded via CSCMail and the version that xfmail downloads... > Oliver -Steve |

Hi, Have appended a message which I cannot see in cscmail. The message gets downloaded (the little window tells me that one message is retrieved from server), however, after completing, the inbox still claims to be empty and I cannot see the message. I use version 1.7.9 from cvs and for sure it is not the (I think obsolete) bug of not deleting mail from server despite of being forced to do so. Finally I fetched this mail successfully with xfmail and here is the result. There are two files: the first one, 'wrongMessage.txt' I copied from a folder where xfmail usually stores its messages. there are some strange combinations of signs and letters in it. the second one, 'msg.txt' is saved from within xfmail and shows how the body of the message should appear. Unfortunately, the message is in german :-( This problem has already happened a number of times so fortunately I switched off deleting mail from server after downloading so that I am able to check my gmx.de account via its browserinterface at www.gmx.de and delete mail manually there Any ideas? Hey-- I am new to Linux. Although I am having this weird problem, I do agree that it is the best thing to happen to Linux POP3 mail since the protocol's inception :) I left Linux open last night (all night) and when I got up, I had about 3 Linux windows open, telling me that Linux was already running, and to delete the 'Linux.running' file if it's not supposed to be running. Well, I delete the file and within a few minutes, it pops up another error message. I think what might be happening is Linux is timing out on a slow server, so it doesn't ever close, or delete its lock file. Is there some way to get CSCMAIL to set a timeout on the servers so it will give up after 20 seconds or something? or, can I get it to ignore the lock file? I have my mail set to check every 3 minutes, if something hangs, it will get piled up pretty quick. Can anyone help me out of this situation? Thanks! -Dan |

[a bit off topic]
About the XMMS problem, it's really not CSCmail's fault, it happens to me with
any program wich uses wav sounds . (Try for example using gnome with sounds and
while playing xmms try using anything that would cause a sound and voi'la, your
system hangs, and you have to start killing processes :)
I'm still looking for answers too, most probably it's esd fault.

Whoops!!!
Looks like I got the cart before the horse a little. I hit send on this
email yesterday when I left the office and didn't wait to see if it
posted ok before I sent the follow up today. I apologize for any
confusion.

Subject: Sound problems
I recently installed CSCMail 1.6.1 at work and I really like it. I'm
having a couple of sound problems though. I have configured it to
play
(Sound Command: play) a wav file when I have new mail, but it plays
the
sound every time it checks mail whether there is new mail or not.
Actually I have three accounts set up ("Work", "Old", "New") when I
click "Send & Recieve" it starts to check the Work account first and
immediately plays the wav. (The following error is also displayed on
SDTOUT "Can't ignore signal CHLD, forcing to default.") When it is
done
checking the Work account it switches to the "Old" account and plays
the
wav again. After checking that account it checks the "New" account
without playing the wav. I believe it goes through the same process
whenever it automatically checks for new mail, because STDOUT has the
same error, and I hear the sound twice, new mail or no. Any idea why
this might be happening?
The other problem I'm having is that when CSCMail checks mail
(automatic
or manually) while I am listening to any non-cd audio with XMMS cscget
hangs. I get the same error as above on STDOUT, and the transfering
E-Mail dialog comes up, but it doesn't do anything. From that point I
have to kill cscget and delete ~/.cscmail/cscget.running in order to
check my mail again. Is this a problem with CSCMail? It seems like
cscget should skip playing a sound if there is no sound device
available
and continue checking mail.
Thanks in advance.
-Ben
P.S. I'm running VA Linux's Red Hat 6.2 and PERL 5.6
