Hi,
I have not used perforce before, so I don't know of any tricks to get the perforce diff to do
this.
With the gnu diff, there is an option -N
-N --new-file
Treat absent files as empty.
I looked up the perforce docs on its diff command and I did not see an equivalent. On clearcase, I
wrote a script that gets a list of the checked out and added files. The script then manually runs
the gnu diff over each file comparing it to the version that is checked in. In clearcase it is
pretty easy to do this because you can pull out older versions directly with a @@version name at
the end of the file name. If you can make a diff file that has all lines as adds, then codestriker
will show it as a new file. Perhaps you could do the same thing. Get a list of the new files, then
diff them using the perforce diff against an empty file. Con cat the output into a single diff
file.
Thanks
Jason

Let me first start by saying that codestriker is an awesome tool. Many thanks to David and anyone else who has contributed to making it some helpful. This tool has been very effective to enable the tracking of changes to existing files (i.e. 1 version already in source control), especially given it's integration with p4 and bugzilla (both of which we use). One thing that I have not been able to figure out is: how can I include "new" files (i.e. file only exists on client, and have run p4 add) into the code review process? I have a little script that the users run on a p4 changelist, which produces the diffs (between the client and the depot), but the output of this does not include any information about new files. When performing a code review, reviewers will need to be able to see all of the code in order to adequately understand the logic. I'm hoping that I am missing something easy here, so I just wanted to check with you. Thanks again for the help. Hi Tom, Just curious - are you running with Codestriker deployed under IIS or Apache? I'd recommend Apache in plain CGI first. IIS sometimes does weird things with executing processes. Are there any messages in the apache error file? What user does your apache process run as? I would try running the equivalent perforce commands as that user. I am guessing the command is hanging, perhaps prompting for some information. If you setup the perforce environment for that user correctly, this prompting should go away. The best way to do this, is to run the equivalent perforce commands to ensure they run correctly. Codestriker is running commands like: p4 -p hostname:port -u user -c client print -q filename#revision Where the parameters are specified in your perforce repository string in your codestriker config file. Try running this for an example file in your system. System: □ Codestriker_1.9.0.beta2 □ running on a windows xp box □ perforce source control □ mysql db. Problem: When clicking on ‘Line xx’ or ‘Parallel’ (in order to view complete old/new files), a new ie window is opened, and it then appears to hang. I have left it running for 20 minutes before killing it, and nothing is returned. Details: I probably have a configuration issue, but I have been stumped for a few days. Originally, I had mis-configured the p4 user, which caused this process to bomb on line 32 of Perforce.pm. After fixing the configuration, I know that it makes it past this method in Perforce.pm, but I don’t know where it hangs up. The pertinent configurations that I’m aware of are in codestriker.conf: □ Validrepositories = 'perforce:<user>:<client machine>@<p4 server machine>:<p4 port>' □ $bug_db_host = '; □ $bug_db_name =; □ $bug_db_password =; □ $bug_db_dbname =; □ $bug_db_user_id =; Is there somewhere else that I should be looking? Can someone help me to debug this issue, or give me some ideas for where to look? Many thanks to David for his initial help with getting my system set up. Hi Chris, This is strange, I certainly don't see this with my local Oracle setup on my Linux box. I have DBD::Oracle version 1.15, running Oracle 8.1.6.1.0. What version are you running? Perhps you can try upgrading your DBD::Oracle to see if this helps?
