Hi Keith,
On Thu, 18 Aug 2005 00:59, Keith Levy wrote:
> Attached is my copy of the config file ...
I can see what the problem is, it has nothing to do with the 1.9.1 as such,
but is a problem in the actual configuation file. If you go right down to
the bottom, to your $comment_state_metrics definition, it reads:
# Four metrics defined: Status, Level, Mode and Type.
$comment_state_metrics =
[
{ name=>'Status', values=>['Submitted', 'Invalid', 'Completed'],
default_value=>'Submitted' },
( name=>'Level', values=>['Major', 'Minor'] },
{ name=>'Mode', values=>['Missing', 'Wrong', 'Unclear',
'Suggestion'] },
{ name=>'Type', values=>['Logic', 'Data Handling', 'Interface',
'Error Handling', 'Performance', 'Comments',
'Standards'] }
];
You can see for the 'Level' metric, you are starting the definition with an
open bracket '(', not a curly brace '{'. This has effectively caused a
syntax error in the configuration file, which has caused the "$db has not
been set" error. Its a shame we don't get a more helpful error message,
I'll look into that.
The standard configuration file which ships with codestriker doesn't have
this defect in it, so perhaps you accidently changed this?
Anyway - changing it to a brace should fix the issue, ie:
{ name=>'Level', values=>['Major', 'Minor'] },
--
Cheers,
David

Whoops - I answered this too quickly, this is when you are running install.pl... I don't have this issue - can you send me your codestriker.conf file? I take it you are running install.pl in the bin sub-directory, and not as bin/install.pl from the root directory? -- Cheers, David |

That seems strange - either the configuration file is badly formatted (ie, extra hanging quote) or apache couldn't access it. Is there anything in the apache error logs? Could you send me your codestriker.conf file? -- Cheers, David |

Hi,
I just updated to 1.9.1 and ran install.pl ok. The only way I could get it to fail was to run
install.pl from another directory besides bin. Did you cd into bin when you ran the script?
Here is the code that sends out the error from install.pl
# Make sure the $db configuration variable has been set, and if not
# complain and exit.
if (! defined $Codestriker::db) {
print STDERR
"The database configuration variable \$db has not been set.\n";
print STDERR
"Please edit the codestriker.conf file and run this command again.\n";
exit -1;
}
I think it is OK. So, if you where in the bin directory, please send out what OS and version of
perl you are using. I tested it under debian sarge, with perl 5.8.4.
Thanks
Jason.

Hi Lee, I have just committed a fix into Codestriker's CVS tree which addresses this issue. You can either retrieve an update from Codestriker's CVS tree directory, or wait for the 1.9.1 release, which I would like to release, hopefully be the end of next week. Hi Lee, You are right. I hate to say it, but this is a bug in the 1.9.0 release. We never saw this as we had always used browsers which had the Codestriker cookie set. This was introduced into 1.9.0 as a result of comments being posted via XmlHttpRequest, and the async response of course no longer updates the browser's cookie. I'll try and look into this soon, and get this fixed for the 1.9.1 release. Many thanks for your report. We have just installed CodeStriker 1.9.0.beta2 and I'm having problems getting with email generation. =20 I configured the system to generate emails when comments are added and when the topic state is change. I created a topic and assigned a reviewer. Emails were generated properly at this point. However, the following happens: =20 1) When my reviewer adds a comment, the add comment screen is not pre-populated with the reviewer's email address. He must retype it in each time he adds a comments which is a PAIN (note: if you enter an invalid address, no email is sent and there does not seem to be any error notification that this has happened). According to the user manual, what is supposed to happen is: "your email address is remembered in the browser's cookie, to prevent you from having to enter it each time you make a comment". This is obviously not happening. =20 2) If the reviewer changes the topic state, an email is properly sent to the author but the text of the email says "The following changes were made by an unknown user from host (unknown) and address <ip address of reviewer's machine>". Again, it looks like it's not able to get an email address from the browser's cookie. =20 =20 We also discovered that once my reviewer created a topic of his own in which he has to explicitly specify his email address, the two scenarios above then starts working fine. Also, if he later creates another topic and enters a different email address, that new email address is the one that now gets use for subsequent add comment screen autopopulation and topic state change notification. It looks like the cookie that remembers your email address gets set (and reset) on topic creation. Is there another way to configure/set one's email address without actually doing a topic creation? =20 BTW: The browser used was Internet Explorer version 6.0.2800.1106. It is set up to accept cookies from the CodeStriker server and it looks like its accepting cookies properly.=20 |

See correction below. Point 1 is an inconvenience (i.e. having to reenter your id with each comment); Point 2 is more of a concern. =20 ________________________________ From: Lee Won=20 Sent: Tuesday, August 09, 2005 12:24 PM To: 'cod...@li...'; 'si...@us...' Subject: New User of CodeStriker - Problems with sender email addressing =20 We have just installed CodeStriker 1.9.0.beta2 and I'm having problems getting with email generation. CORRECTION: email does get sent even though an invalid email address is entered for the "Your email" field.
