Is the > documentation wrong, or is the zip file? The documentation online is now referring to the imminent 1.9.0 release. Checksetup.pl has been renamed to install.pl, as a number of people were getting confused as to its exact function, and were ignoring it. The documentation that ships with the 1.8.5 release still refers to using checksetup.pl. I'd recommend using the 1.9.0.beta2 release in any case, especially for Win32 systems. -- Cheers, David |

Hello, I downloaded Codestriker 1.8.5 and am trying to install it on a Win2k machine. I got to the part where I'm supposed to run install.pl. However, this file isn't in the 1.8.5 distribution. Is the documentation wrong, or is the zip file? Thanks, Nik |

Hi guys, Codestriker 1.9.0 beta 2 is available for download from http://codestriker.sf.net. There have only been a number of minor cosmetic changes since beta 1, so if you haven't tried it already, I urge you to do so now, as we'd like to release this next week. -- Cheers, David |

Dear Codestrikers, Its has been a very long time, but there is finally a new release (beta) with a stack of new features. You can download it from the usual download section from http://codestriker.sf.net. I'd appreciate it very much if people can download it and give it a try, and let me know of any issues. The interface for adding comments has changed radically - you need to be using a fairly modern browser, as it is now using XmlHttpRequest to do its work, but the nice thing is it avoids the need for poping up a new browser window. I've attached the full CHANGELOG below. Incidently, the example Codestriker deployment on the SF site has also been updated to this beta release, so you can also look at it there. Again, you can access this from the Codestriker home page. -- Cheers, David Version 1.9.0 * Now using overlib javascript library (http://www.bosrup.com/web/overlib) for formatted "tooltips". When the mouse hovers over a line where a comment has been made, a formatted "tooltip" window appears, which contains the comment text formatted appropriately, with author and date header information bolded. The tooltip is not removed until the mouse is moved off the line. Help text on the create topic and search screens have been modified to use this tooltip library as well as opposed to javascript alert windows. * Comments are now added view an overlib tooltip window, rather than using a separate browser window. This speeds up the reviewing process and keeps the reviewer focussed on a single browser window. * It is now possible to create a comment associated with a specific file, or the topic itself, rather than being associated with a specific line. This allows reviewers to create file-level or topic-level comments. * There are patches available for Bugzilla 2.16 and Bugzilla 2.18 in the bin subdirectory, where the view bug screen is modified to include the "Create a New Codestriker Topic" and "View All" links directly under the "Create a New Attachment" and "View All" links. When a new topic is created via this link, the topic title will be set initially to the bug title, and the bug id field will be set to the id of the bug record. Before applying the patch, the codestriker_url variable must be set to the URL of your Codestriker deployment. * Extra options are now available in the codestriker.conf file in regards to when emails are sent out. It is now possible to control whether emails are sent to the topic author and/or the comment author when new comments are created. Also, there is an option which determines if all reviewers are notified if the topic's state is changed. This is all controlled by the $email_send_options configuration item. From Jason Remillard. * Added RSS support, so that the topic list screen now has an equivalent RSS view. From Jason Remillard. * Optimised database connection code, from Jason Remillard. * Added a "add other reviewers" link next to the Cc: field in the "add comment" screen. This allows the comment author to easily Cc all the other reviewers of the topic, for important comments that needs to be sent to all reviewers. * When creating new topics linked to Bugzilla, also include the topic description field in the Bugzilla comment. * Searching on the bugid and cc fields was not working correctly. This has now been fixed. * On UNIX platforms, missing modules can be fetched and installed automatically using the CPAN module, if required. * Subversion 1.1 has changed it diff format slightly. Parser as been updated, as reported by Martin Apel <Mar...@so...>. * Added integration support for Flyspray bug-tracking system. From Martin Apel. * Fixed text message written to bug-tracking system where the topic author was used instead of the actual user, when the topic state was changed. Found by Jason Remilliard. * Make sure for Win32 deployments, that the PATH environment variable is not zapped. This created issues when launching external programs, such as an SCM program. Since taint-mode is broken under Win32, this isn't an issue. Found by Michael R. Brumm <mic...@us...>. * Fixed message "Character in 'c' format wrapped in pack at ... Response.pm", as reported by an anonymous user. * 'Readonly' topic states are now specified in codestriker.conf. For installations that add their own topic states, this allows them to have more than one state in which topics can be edited. From Dan Prince <dan...@al...>. * Subversion topic creation fixes from Michael R. Brumm <mic...@us...>. If module refers to file, path workaround duplicates the file's name at the end of the file path in the filename field. Starting and ending slash not removed from module name during getDiff. * Modified the Perforce parser to handle file-types that return "xbinary". Also handled Perforce diffs which contain unidiff style '---' and '+++' header lines. From Hope Duryea <hop...@ya...>. |

Excellent training and assistance. http://hu.SV72.surrealismconstitute.com/lj/ Above for additional info or to un-register or to see our address. Testimonial from Doug A., in California: I went in to a local business this morning to check on having some Internet/computer work done. I was chatting with a very well dressed man (turned out he was the owner) when he asked me exactly what I did with this judgment recovery thing. I explained it all to him, everything, made sure he that he understood. When I finished talking, he walked over behind a big desk, slid open a long file cabinet and handed me a file. He told me to take care of this for him and that he had 3 or 4 more like it and half a dozen or so more of only 4 to 6 thousand dollars each. His time working his Internet/computer company was more valuable to him than wasting any more time on these judgments. The file he handed me was a $30,000 judgment. WOW! The judgment is dated Oct. 1997 and the defendant owns a local oil supply company. Being handed the case file like that was the last thing I expected to happen. It was! And this man knows better than half of the businessmen in Bakersfield. I look forward to talking on this matter, it's 10:30 pm and I think that I may not get much sleep tonight. Even my CPA this morning commented on how much money was to be had by my working this business as I intend to do. He was very pleased with how everything is set up. I hope that you had a great day, I certainly had an interesting one. Then he made a mocking bow to the circle and continued: I'm pleased to have met you fellows, and proud to think you like me well enough to want to eat me; but I'm in a bit of a hurry to-day, so I can't stop to be digested. After which, as the crowd broke into a hum of surprise, he added: Good-day, black folks! and quickly turned the indicator of his traveling machine to the word up Slowly he rose into the air, until his heels were just above the gaping blacks; but there he stopped short |

Hi Anthony, I take it you are creating diff files via cvs commands? Make sure you include the -N flag, which will handle new/removed files, ie: cvs diff -uN > review.txt On Tue, 10 May 2005 02:30, newton, anthony wrote: > Quick question > > I have a new file, which I have added to cvs. > > When I enter "submitforcodereview". Quick question I have a new file, which I have added to cvs. When I enter "submitforcodereview". My new file doesn't show up. How can I select my new file and place into a codestriker topic ? Anthony Newton |

This is a Win32 issue with the Perl 5.8.x release, as documented here: http://www.mail-archive.com/per...@pe.../msg84744.html What you need to do is apply the patch mentioned in the link above, right at the bottom of the page. That is, around line 30 in Local.pm, you need to add the following lines: } elsif ($^O eq 'MSWin32') { # time_t is signed but localtime() only supports non-negative input... $MaxInt = ((1 << (8 * $Config{intsize} - 2))-1)*2 + 1; $MinInt = 0; So the resulting code ij Local.pm should look like: # time_t is unsigned... $MaxInt = (1 << (8 * $Config{intsize})) - 1; $MinInt = 0; } elsif ($^O eq 'MSWin32') { # time_t is signed but localtime() only supports non-negative input... $MaxInt = ((1 << (8 * $Config{intsize} - 2))-1)*2 + 1; $MinInt = 0; } else { $MaxInt = ((1 << (8 * $Config{intsize} - 2))-1)*2 + 1; $MinInt = -$MaxInt - 1; I've been told this fixes the issue. Once I have a topic with a lot of information in it, I get this error in the Apache log. I am running CodeStriker under windows with Apache 2.0.53 and ActivePerl 5.8.6.811. [Thu Apr 14 12:01:55 2005] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] [Thu Apr 14 12:01:54 2005] codestriker.pl: Use of uninitialized value in integer addition (+) at C:/Perl/lib/Time/Local.pm line 76. Any ideas? Thank you. |

Here is a problem that we had with our Codestriker setup. Just thought I'd document it for posterity... We have a CVS repository with directory /usr/local/cvsroot, but that is actually a symlink to /home/cvs/cvsroot. Some folks on our team had their CVSROOT on their client set to /usr/local/cvsroot, and some had /home/cvs/cvsroot. This was fine, and everyone's CVS works without a hitch. However, when we started using Codestriker we noticed that some developers on our team invariably produced Codestriker topics which did not display the 'Line X' and 'Parallel' links on the topic display page, which when clicked bring up a new window with the entire text of the file being reviewed. Instead of these links, we would just see the 'Line X' text without a link. Turns out this happens when the CVSROOT in the uploaded CVS diff file does not match the CVSROOT in the codestriker config. Multiple repositories can be listed in codestriker.conf, but we are creating topics upon CVS commits via the patched log_accum.pl script. This script only has one repository listed, which makes sense as it is essentially installed in the repository itself. I could have hacked the log_accum.pl script to put both CVSROOT versions in there somehow, but in our case it was easier to just make sure everyone on our team used the same CVSROOT. Now all seems to be working just fine. |

Hi Adam,
This is a bug on some Window deployments that somebody has recently found.
Go to bin/codestriker.pl.base where it has the following:
if ($windows == 0) {
$ENV{'PATH'} = '/bin:/usr/bin';
} else {
$ENV{'PATH'} = '';
}
Remove the else part, so that it now reads:
if ($windows == 0) {
$ENV{'PATH'} = '/bin:/usr/bin';
}
Run checksetup.pl again, restart apache, and try again.
This should fix CGI. For mod_perl, you'll need to explicitly set your PATH
in apache.conf, via SetPerlEnv PATH or some other directive to ensure
cmd.exe is in the webserver's path.
I'll make sure this is fixed in the next release of Codestriker, once I am
less snow-balled at work.
Cheers,
David

Hello, I am trying to setup Codestriker on a Windows 2003 box using Apache 2.0.53, and talk with Subversion. I'm having a problem, and I could not find anything via google or your archived mailing list to help me, so I'm hoping you will. I've tried configuring Apache using CGI and mod_perl, and I get an error using each. When I create a new topic, if I upload a file it works fine. But if I instead enter a start tag, end tag, and module, I get an error. Here is the error using mod_perl: open3: Can't close: No such file or directory at C:/Apache/Apache2/websites/codestriker/bin/../lib/Codestriker/Repository/Subversion.pm line 111 Using CGI, I get this error: open3: IO::Pipe: Can't spawn-NOWAIT: No such file or directory at C:/Apache/Apache2/websites/codestriker/bin/../lib/Codestriker/Repository/Subversion.pm line 111 Any thoughts on what is causing this? I believe my Subversion repository is specified right in my codestriker.conf file: 'svn:http://server:8081/svn', When I type that URL into a browser, it shows me my repository. I do not need to login either, I have that turned off. Thanks. Adam Snow Systems Administrator Strategic Analysis, Inc. 2661 Commons Blvd Beavercreek, OH 45431 937.427.5480 phone 937.427.1242 fax |

Hello, I've recently got our team up and running on codestriker and it seems to be a big hit so far. Thanks for great software. Like others on this list, I felt the need for a 'Reviewed' topic state. That is, a topic that is Open gets reviewed by someone, who then changes the state to 'Reviewed'. Then the author gets an email and knows that the review is complete. Then the author goes through the reviewers comments, makes changes, etc., and changes the state to 'Closed'. It was easy to add the 'Reviewed' state in codestriker.conf, between "Open" and "Closed". Then I converted existing topics by running sql like this: update topic set state = state + 1 where state > 0. The only other issue to address was that topics are uneditable when they are in a state > 0 (Closed). The attached patch contains a solution to this problem that I hope seems reasonable and useful. We have been using our patched version of codestriker for a few weeks now and it seems to work well. |
