All - When cloning a Windows Server machine over a network using "remote-source" to "remote-destination" disk-to-remote-disk Clonezilla partitions the drive and clones the first partition fine. Then, when cloning sda2, within 1 minute there is a timeout. Rerunning clonezilla and using part-to-remote-part on the second partition from the source machine to the clonezilla-made second partition on the target machine works. The source machine is a debian machine with drbl/clonezilla installed on AWS. The target machine is running clonezilla-live off of an iso on boot. This is a repeatable problem and I am using the most up-to-date versions of clonezilla on both machines. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Best, Georgia Smith |

Hello Tom Thank you for your kindly reply. I had again a look at it. And it seems I made a mess with the target drive. Actually I want to store the image to sda6 (my home partition of my Linux system). But it seems, sda6 is not in the list in https://www.bilder-upload.eu/bild-03f92b-1590523492.png.html . Here you can see my partition sda6: https://abload.de/image.php?img=cloezillaw1jd4.png Isn't there a way to choose in step 3) (https://www.bilder-upload.eu/bild-03f92b-1590523492.png.html) the sda6? With kind regards Serando |

Hi Serando If i understand correctly then I assume you try to use Clonezilla the wrong way. Try following: - Take another empty USB flash drive, format one partition as FAT32. - Download Clonezilla alternative stable and extract the content of the amd64/zip file to your flash drive. - Run clonezilla-live-20200428-focal-amd64.zip\utils\win64\makeboot64.bat as administrator. - Boot from your freshly created flash drive, while your source flash drive is connected as well. - Select 'device-image' - Select 'local_dev' You wrote: > want make an image from my USB-Stick to sda2. Now, I'm pretty sure you do not want to make an image from sdc1 (7.5GB) to sda2 (99MB). If I understand correctly, your sda2 is a hidden system partition of a Windows 10 installation. Hint: I can not see any useable partition on your Seagate Laptop Thin SSHD (ST500LM000) disk. It seems you could store the image to the sdb2 (99,6GB) ntfs partition. If true, select sdb2. Proceed from there by selecting a folder to store your image, etc.. Good luck Best regards Tom -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: serando <se...@su...> Gesendet: Dienstag, 26. Clonezilla does not support the conversion for MBR to GPT. Virtualbox can handle uEFI, so please check its manual. Ok so this was not a Clonezilla issue but a Windows issue. Here is how I solved it. I first installed Windows 10 in VBox, then I booted into VBox with Clonezilla and my image, then I overwrote only the Windows or C Drive, and when I booted back it, I had all my files. Hope this helps. On Wed, Mar 25, 2020 at 10:21 PM Sreyan Chakravarty <sre...@gm...> wrote: > Hi, > > I have taken the image of my C Drive Partition in Windows. Hi, I have taken the image of my C Drive Partition in Windows. Now I want to restore that partition in VirtualBox. I am unable to do so. The image backup completed successfully and the it seems that I am able to restore the image without any hiccups to VirtualBox. But after restoration VBox won't boot, it does nothing. Now it should be said that my disk image was taken from a UEFI+GPT system, but VirtualBox can't handle UEFI so I had to go with BIOS+MBR. I don't know if this is causing the problem. I have created a primary partition in VBox with Windows Repair and tried restoring the image to that partition, but it still fails to boot. What can I do to get this working ? Strangely after restoring the partition I can browse it through the Windows repair disc, all my files are there. Another strange thing is that my image(C Drive) is only 164 GB in size, I have created a 300 GB hard disk in VBox, but after the image restoration has finished DISKPART reports 0% free space on my virtual harddisk. How can this be ? Is there some sort of corruption ? I am using Clonezilla in beginner mode, should I use advanced mode if so then what are the options I should use for that ? I really don't know if this is a VBox issue, or I am using Clonezilla incorrectly or not. Please let me know if any other information is needed from my side. -- Regards, Sreyan Chakravarty |

Thanks for the feedback Ian. I understand it might be simpler but as you can see /home is my largest partition (326GiB). As it is already backed up by another software, I would prefer to avoid saving it again ;) l0f4r0 22 mars 2020 à 17:24 de ib...@gm...: > I would just tell Clonezilla to take a backup of the entire disk. I would just tell Clonezilla to take a backup of the entire disk. You can choose to restore individual partitions later. ________________________________ From: l0f4r0--- via Clonezilla-live <clo...@li...> Sent: Sunday, March 22, 2020 12:18:12 PM To: clo...@li... <clo...@li...> Subject: [Clonezilla-live] Linux system backup: partitions, Secure Boot, LUKS, UEFI... Hello, I don't understand why Clonezilla-Live version uses "-g" "Reinstall grub on target hard disk boot sector" by default. If a new user tries to clone a harddrive with the windows OS installed, grub destroys the windows boot manager. I tried to clone a harddrive with the debian os. I configured a mdadm raid 1 on this drive. If clonezilla reinstalls grub i'm not able to boot. I think if someone really needs to reinstall the grub bootloader he knows that. I think it would be much more userfriendly if this option would be disabled by default. Thank you and best regards, Patrick |

Which version of Clonezilla live did you use? This is usually the Linux kernel/hardware support issue. Please give testing Clonezilla live 2.6.1-19 or 20190320-disco a try: https://clonezilla.org/downloads.php They come with newer Linux kernels so it might support your hardware. Hello, I created a disk image. It a CentOS 7 UEFI system, with EFI partition VFAT, /boot is XFS. On an LVM partition I have root (/) as XFS, <swap>, and /home as XFS. On restore I find that the LVM is created, but no way to access root, swap, or home! I cannot tell if the problem is on the creation of the backup or during restoration. Any advice? Dear, We would like to invite you to participate in a study on interaction design in distributed software development. At first, we are identifying people who are currently participating or who have already participated in design or software development with geographically distributed teams. If you are currently participating or have already participated in design or software development with geographically distributed teams, please give your opinion in this survey. The survey has only 6 (six) questions and is available at: https://interactiondesign.limequery.com/435494?lang=en Your participation is very important to the success of this study! If possible, please help us to spread this survey. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the survey. Hi all, I´ve created a system-backup using clonezilla. After starting my system (Linux/Lubuntu 16.04.5 LTS, 64 bit) again I checked the Load_Cycle_Count of my drive with sudo smartctl -A -d sat /dev/sdc . I noticed that the Load_Cycle_Count has risen by a value of 50 from 57705 to 57755. That was a bit unusual as the Load_Cycle_Count normally rises by a value of 3 (from one boot-up to the next). Yet I have to say that this time clonezilla had to fix my third partition before beginning the backup-process. I let fsck do its job per default. So could the observed phenomenon have something to do with that? Or is there any way of preventing unusual "Load_Cycle_Count"-rises when using clonezilla for backup purposes? Thanks a lot in advance. Greetings. Rosika |
