Do not choose "-k1", let Clonezilla clones the exact partition size for you. Make sure it can boot, then 2. Use GParted live (http://gparted.sf.net) to enlarge the partition you want, and do not touch the hidden partition. I am using Clonezilla 1.2.4-28 to clone a Dell E4300 Windows XP laptop. I've noticed that there is a hidden partition (sda1 - FAT16) which contains the Dell utility. Windows boots from sda2 and we have a data directory on sda3. The laptop comes with a 160GB. If I insert a 250GB drive and proportionally size the drive, the system fails to boot (no blue screen) or we get a NTLDR (0xc000000e). If I don't do a proportional resize, the image loads fine. I don't know of a way to reimage without the Dell partition, outside of a complete rebuild, but I cannot expand to a larger disk. I have also tried doing a backup of the Windows partition (sda2) and force it to sda1 but I've had no luck with that. Any thoughts? Thanks. Hi James, Yes, we found there is an issue about partclone 0.2.7 performance. Therefore another Clonezilla live 20100330-karmic was uploaded with partclone 0.2.8 included. This issue should have been gone. Could you please give it a try? Please let us know the results. Thanks. Regards, Steven. Right now I do not have real machines which I can test. Therefore I can not give you the numbers. If anyone on this forum has such numbers to share, please share that. BTW, there is a performance improvement in partclone 0.2.8, and it's now included in clonezilla live 20100330-karmic. Could you please give it a try? To see if any big difference. Please let us know the results if you try that. Regards, Steven. Both SATA Disks, the destination is a virtual machine but I did some IO-Performance tests with dd on the virtual machine. It is definitely able to write and read with more than 20MB/s. (I did dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/zero bs=100M count=10 etc.) The network can't really limit the speed, so I don't know what is could be. What's your experience with the speed? Is it faster? I'll do some tests on my own with dd and netcat or so. ((sorry, forgot to click the reply-all button ;) )) On 29.03.2010 16:26, Steven Shiau wrote: > How about the speed when you save the image? > What's the disk types in the source and destination machines? Hi, whats's you experience with the onthefly migration (that partclone over netcat thing) especially perfomance? I never get more than ~300MB/min (=~ 5MB/s) in a Gigabit network which is very dissappoiting. I already tried it without compression etc but I didn't get more speed. (Further the machines are fast enough to do it faster than 5MB/s with compression). Is that a partclone issue? Have you any ideas? Regards, Lukas -- Lukas Grässlin Collax GmbH . This release of Clonezilla live (1.2.4-28) includes major enhancements, bug fixes, and language translation updates. MAJOR ENHANCEMENTS: * New file system support: UFS of FreeBSD/NetBSD/OpenBSD. It has been tested successfully for imaging FreeBSD 8.0, OpenBSD 4.6 and NetBSD 5.0.2. * New file system support: VMFS of VMWare ESX. * 686 kernel is available in this release, so multi-core CPU is supported. * XZ/Lzip compression, and parallel compression, pxz and plzip, were added. You can choose "-z5", "-z5p", "-z6" or "-z6p" in the expert mode. If your machine has multi-core CPU, please use the i686 version of Clonezilla live then the -z5p and -z6p options are available in the expert mode. * Now both syslinux and isolinux are included in Clonezilla live iso and zip file. This will avoid confusing. BUG FIXES * Delay unmounting the Windows partition when removing hibernation ans page files. since the mounted partition was not aware so fast. This should fix this "partition busy error": https://sourceforge.net/projects/drbl/forums/forum/394007/topic/3559920 * Delay unmounting the testing grub partition, since on some of the GNU/Linux distributions, the mounted ntfs partition was not aware so fast. This should fix this "ntfsfixboot I/O error issue": https://sourceforge.net/projects/drbl/forums/forum/394007/topic/3559920 * Improve all the scripts by avoiding use "rm -rf" as most as possible. * "nosplash" was appended in failsafe mode and safe graphic mode so that Clonezilla usplash won't be started by default. * A workaround was added in prep-ocsroot to ensure module nfs will be loaded when mounting nfs4 server. * Some other minor bugs were fixed. LANGUAGE TRANSLATION UPDATES * All the language files were updated. If your image was saved by partclone, you can use the command partclone.chkimg to check that. Remember by default the image of a partition is compressed, so you have to uncompressed first, then use partclone.chkimg to check that. Steven. Dear all. Using Clonezilla 1.2.3-27, the Intel 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet Pro 100 (rev 10) refuses to come up. Error message in console when trying to bring it up: Requesting e100/d102e_ucode.bin e100_request_firmware: failed SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory When using Clonezilla 1.0.9-10, the network card works without a hitch. Anybody an idea what happened? Kind regards, Jürgen Depicker |

Yes, but I might want to do ext3 partitions too - and I may want to convert back after changes. Should gzip and either ntfsclone or partclone handle it? Is there a handy (or even not-so-handy) way to convert the partition
images saved by clonezilla into full image files that could be
loopback-mounted and modified, and then convert them back? I can think
of some instances where this would be handier than having to go back to
real disks to make changes.

hello I have a sata hard drive of a client machine who has two partitions sda1= 70GB and sda5 = 100GB. the kernel that this machine load when booting with *etherboot *is not detecting the sata hard drive *:-(.* so I change the kernel and initrd (manually) of the drbl server by another newer version. and fortunately his walking, and udev in the client machine detects the sata drive and the backup operation starts successfully *:-)* but at the end of the operation I found in drbl partimag server that the size of sda1.img = *4kb* !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the size of sda5.img = 5GB :-( I think no problem for sda5 because my original partition does not contain too much data and the file ".img" is compressed. but for sda1* :-o* . I checked the size available in my */home* partition of the server and I discovered that it is used at *100%*. AHHH I said that's why !!! . I make room and tried again to save the disk, but sda1.imag still = *4Ko* !!!!!!!!!! I tried to changed the mode of my hard drive from "auto" to LBA" and rebuild the opéartion, but the processus of buckup unbootable and client crashes without reponce. what is the solution please.??????? *Note:* i have an old version of drbl server ( 4 or 5 years ago) and I like to solve the problem without reinstalling a new version of drbl 1000 thanks |
