Hi, I have apparently successfully used Clonezilla live to create a disk image. However, there are two issues that seem to prevent me from restoring the image: i) Whilst it successfully mounts the disk that holds the image, it doesn't see the particular directory in which the image sits. Other directories that are on the disk are also not recognized. ii) The menu only shows the options to save disks or partitions - the restore options are not present. I used clonezilla-live-3.1.0-22-amd64.iso to create a bootable USB. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to what is happening here, because at present Clonezilla is not a tool that I could rely on. Clonezilla was working fine to make a bootable usb backup of fedora 37 but stopped working when I upgraded to fedora 38. Perhaps has to do do with Grub2? I have a single 500 gb LVM2 partition with /root, /swap, /opt, & /home blocks. I don't really understand Grub2 but apparently the /boot files are a subdirectory of Grub and not part of the partition? These are the config, initramfs, System.map, and vmlinuz files needed for booting. I've tried cloning the drive 3 times using the latest Clonezilla live, using disk to disk to try to make a backup on an external usb drive. The clone is successful, but none of the boot files ever get cloned, and thus the usb is not bootable nor mountable because it doesn't have a file system without the boot files. Therefore in the event of of main disk corruption, crash, etc. and the need to restore from the USB, it wouldn't work because there are no boot files cloned to the usb. So how would I go about making a useable backup disk with Clonezilla given the grub2 problems I've encountered? Thank you, Bob |

I restored it to another SDcard, but when booting it up I encounter that message. I have successfully cloned raspiOS.before but sometimes have encountered problems with same size sdcards as clonezilla has text repeating that the contents do not fit on same size sdcard. 32GB pny SDcard, reports 31.9 GB . I use a 64bit Dell XPS 8940 machine to do the cloning. I had cloned Linux machines, windows machines but not FreeBSD machines(hot booting problems), tried rescue with DVD but no success so I gave up trying. I have read the Fedora documention but still encounter the same problem. I check the contents of the cloned SDcard and the home directories are there, but the contents of the downloads folder report input/output error. Fedora no longer requires su - account and one uses sudo. I do not understand why root account is locked. I had not had this issue before. The raspiOS boots correctly, the Fedora 38 boots correctly, but the cloned one returns the bootup problems mentioned. No matter what I try I get same error message. Fedora uses BTRFS in case it is important. So it looks the OS you were cloning is about Raspberry PI? It's ARM-based, but the file system should be OK if you put the SD card to x86 machine. As for the "root account locked", did you mean you boot the restored RaspiOS and it's locked? Not booting Clonezilla live, and it's locked, right? If so, then maybe you have to find where the RaspiOS has such a mechanism. Sometimes it uses hardware-specific ID in the /etc/fstab so that it can not be cloned. You have to change that to software-based so that it can be cloned, for example. Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked. See sulogin(8) man page for more details. Press Enter to continue. I press Enter and I get Reloading system configuration Starting default.target You are in emergency mode. After logging in ... Press Enter to continue. The loop is endless and nomatter what I try I get the same message. In fedora docs, https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/root-account-locked/ I do not have a rescue live/cd/dvd for the pi4 machine. How can I bypass this error? Thank you in advance Best Regards, Antonio |

The latest stable Clonezilla live is 3.0.3-22, and it was released about 2 months abo: https://clonezilla.org/downloads.php Have you tried it? Hello, My first post on this list, forgive me if I write about things you already know :-(. I was just hit two days ago by a bug. Probably a bug related to btrfs on openSUSE Tumbleweed. The result was empty files on the target making in unusable. Details: I wanted to clone a presently in use sata 480Go ssd in an asus N550jk computer (intel i7) to an nvme 512Go disk aimed to an asus tuf 706iu (amd rysen) computer. Many partitions on it. nvme in an usb3 nvme dock. Clonezilla-live-3.0.2-21-amd64.iso on a Ventoy usb pen. no error message at the end of the clone, done mostly with default options. None of the two openSUSE install on the disk could boot, when Windows 10 boot correctly. At first I suspected an UID/fstab problem, but in the end I could see a lot of system files have quotation marks in ls -l result. Once a fresh Tumbleweed install done on the (obsolete) openSUSE Leap 15.3 partition, I noticed that these system files on the root of faulty Tumbleweed where zero length files. I suspect the problem come from btrfs snapshot/subvols management, the link between updated and non updated files is broken. Old ssd partition and faulty Tumbleweed partition are still available for check is necessary (some files where changed in the way of trying to boot the system) sincerely jdd -- mon serveur usenet: dodin.fr.nf c'est quoi, usenet? http://www.dodin.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Usenet.Usenet |

Hi - Are the local dev and the image repository screens both sdb1? It might say so on the live docs - step-by- step example. Is it correct when I look at the gzip files inside the image they read sda2? Are you doing this because the sda2 maps to my pc's pci express ssd 2nd partition rather than worrying about a naming issue?. I think it may means to pick my 2nd partition of my hard drive, and to not worry about the label sda2? It probably would cost extra programming time or something. Anyway, can you please verify these items? I think Clonezilla is wicked cool! thanks ice crystal Sent with [Proton Mail](https://proton.me/) secure email. |

Hi all- I might be missing something. I tried to install the gpg key for kinnetic. I used kgpg -k from the shell. I went to import the file ending in gpg and it won't import. gpg --import CHECKSUMS.TXT.gpg gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found. gpg: Total number processed: 0 Please let me know if I did something wrong. I thought that is a public key. Thanks so much for replying, and I'd like to definitely give clonezilla imaging. I used fdisk -l, and I can see now what I am looking at for a source when make an image.
