Hello, I have been using clonezilla for quite some time to make backups of my home system. I had been using LZO compression at first but switched to lzma after i thought about it for a while and the fact that LZO has a big NOTE!!! in brackets after it so my question is why does it have that. I saw some e-mails on the mailing list from some issues from back in 2007 is that still the problem or is something else up? Thank you |

This release of Clonezilla live (2.4.2-10) includes major enhancements and bug fixes. ** ENHANCEMENTS and CHANGES ** - The underlying GNU/Linux operating system was upgraded. This release is based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2015/Jun/08). - Linux kernel was updated to 4.0.2-1. The default union file system has been changed to overlay, therefore if you edit boot parameter manually, you have to use "union=overlay". No more using "union=aufs". - Switched to use systemd instead of sysvinit. Following the way in upstream. - Switched to use live-build/live-boot/live-config v4. All the boot parameters should remain the same. However, the boot parameter "components" introduced in live-boot v4 has to be added if you edit the boot parameters manually. - Partclone was updated to 0.2.78.drbl1. A btrfs issue has been fixed, and an issue about imaging a partition >=16 TB was fixed. Thanks to Abdullayev Natiq (natiq2004 at yahoo com) for helping to solve it. - Package drbl was updated to 2.15.14-drbl1, and clonezilla was updated to 3.16.10-drbl1. - Syslinux was updated to 6.03+dfsg-7. - Language files en_US, ca_ES, de_DE, es_ES, fr_FR, it_IT, ja_JP, and sk_SK were updated. Thanks to René Mérou, Michael Vinzenz, Juan Ramón Martínez, Jean-Francois Nifenecker, Gianfranco Gentili, Akira YOSHIYAMA, and Ondrej Dzivy Balucha. - Language files for Hungarian were added. Thanks to Greg Marki (info.mlc at freemail hu) for providing the files. Program util-linux was updated to 2.26.2-6. Due to the option "-R" is removed from "sfdisk", we now switch to use "blockdev --rereadpt". Thanks to Ismael (razzziel at users sf net) for reporting this. - AWS S3 and OpenStack Swift resource are added in the image repositories list. - Package gdisk was updated to 1.0.0-drbl1. - Clonezilla live iso file is ready for uEFI booting for using dd command to put on USB flash drive. - Adding a link file ocs-prep-home to prep-ocsroot. - Adding a link file ocs-cvt-dev to cnvt-ocs-dev. - A better mechanism to parse the PV was implemented. Thanks to Uditha De Silva. - Program ocs-install-grub now could handle the grub boot loader on root partition instead of MBR. - Package zbackup was added. - Package tinc was added. Thanks to Michael Munger (michael at highpoweredhelp com) for suggesting this. - Package cloudfuse was added. - Package ifenslave, s3fs and ca-certificates were added in the packages list of Clonezilla live. ** BUG FIXES ** - Program ocs-onthefly failed to clone swap partition for GPT disk. Thanks to Uwe Dippel for reporting this issue. (https://sourceforge.net/p/clonezilla/discussion/Open_discussion/thread/907b3c87). - The error "Unable to find target partition" on uEFI machine when restoring an image was fixed. Newer gdisk/sgdisk (1.0.0) fixes this issue. Hi Steve, No, I found a manual command to fix the problem (and that does not work all the time, not sure what is the issue there, it gives random result everytime I run it). Finally for the moment, what I have is I dual boot the usb with Clonezilla and Boot-Repair-Disk (http://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair-cd/home/Home/ ), and the procedure is when Clonezilla is stuck there (that is almost all the time) reboot and boot up with the Boot-Repair-Disk and fix the bootsector. Thanks, Shayan > Hi Shayan, > So on github you have mentioned the issue has been fixed? > Or you still have problem for that? > Thanks. > > Steven. > > On 05/06/2015 08:12 AM, Shayan Eskandari wrote: > > Hi, > > > > I'm trying to make an automated restore clonezilla live, and I've been > > having some issues. > > One would be is it possible to make it completely unattended? I have tried many permutations of mounting a directory ("image") with the image, and I get the error "\image does not exist". I also get "/dev/sdb1 is already mounted". I can boot with a USB drive (created with Clonezilla live version: 2.3.2-22-i686-pae) and restore an image from another USB to a partition on a Win 7 machine. I need to have the image on the boot USB and somewhat automate the restore process. I've put the image on a USB that will boot. I've tried altering the syslinux.cfg file to run partimage with ask_user and to do it automatically. It doesn't appear to be reading my edited config file. It comes up with the default menu no matter what is in the syslinux.cfg. The last command I tried was (with ask_user): append initrd=/live/initrd.img boot=live config noswap nolocales edd=on nomodeset noprompt ocs_prerun="mount --bind /live/image/image /home/partimag" ocs_live_run="ocs-sr -g auto -e1 auto -e2 -c -r -j2 -k -p true restoreparts ask_user sda3" ocs_live_extra_param="" keyboard-layouts=NONE ocs_live_batch="no" locales=en_US.UTF-8 vga=788 ip= nosplash It didn't run this so I'm not sure what's going on. In this scenario the image is in the /image directory. Am I editing the wrong file? I've been reading everything I can find and it all says that syslinux.cfg is what used when booting from USB. Thanks. Lisa |

Hi, I'm trying to make an automated restore clonezilla live, and I've been having some issues. One would be is it possible to make it completely unattended? I've tried "noprompt noprompt" but still it asks user to say "yes" to erase the data on the disk. but the major issue is this : https://github.com/stevenshiau/clonezilla/issues/5 while making an unattended restore, after restoring the partition, I > encounter this error message: > > Updating the boot entry 00005 by command: > efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -p -L "HD(6,16570000BLAHBLAH)File(\EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi)" -l "\EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi" > > Could not prepare boot variable: Invalid argument > > *********************************************************************** > Setting network boot in the 1st order of uEFI NVRAM... > > > and it gets stuck here....! if I do a reboot it would not recognize the > hard drive any more so nothing boots. > > However on one try I CTRL+C ed there and went on the command-line mode, I > did try the same command (with sudo, otherwise permission error), it gave > me the same error and when I removed "-L > "HD(6,16570000BLAHBLAH)File(\EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi)" -l > "\EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi"" that are just the labels and names, it worked > and the system was able to boot up from the restored image. > > so I narrowed down the issue, i guess it's somewhere here: > https://github.com/stevenshiau/clonezilla/blob/a80ae5a477c1e124ee87771d0a6f3551ff095efe/sbin/update-efi-nvram-boot-entry#L409 > > Is there any boot variables to disable what is happening here? or any > other workarounds? > Thanks, Shayan BitAccess.co -------- S - B |

I've solved this issue. I used a modified version of this: http://drbl.org/faq/2_System/files/editCZCDsquashfs.txt along with the the same basic steps from here: http://knoppix.net/wiki3/index.php?title=Knoppix_Remastering_Howto Basic steps: 1. Run editCZCDsquashfs.sh (http://drbl.org/faq/2_System/files/editCZCDsquashfs.txt) 2. In another terminal, chroot /tmp/clonezillan/live/squashfs-root 3. apt-get update 4. apt-get install vim 5. Setup eth0 to get dhcp: auto eth0 allow-hotplug eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp 6. apt-get install tinc 7. Configure tinc: 8. Ensure the tun driver is loaded: add 'tun' to /etc/modules on its own line. 9. apt-get install chkconfig 10. Make sure that ssh starts on boot: 'chkconfig ssh on' 11. Ctrl+D to exit chroot 12. Backup what you just did: cd /tmp/ tar -zcvf myclonezilla.tar.gz clonezillan/ 13. Return to the terminal that ran the script in #1, and 'exit' I'll probably publish this on github for any future searchers.... https://github.com/DrDamnit/ Michael Munger, dCAP, MCPS, MCNPS, MBSS High Powered Help, Inc. I want to do something rather simple, which I have already done for Knoppix, but need some guidance for Clonezilla: 1. Compile tinc for clonezilla 2. Set tinc to run at boot (so it connects to our service vpn) 3. Set dhcp to start automatically. 4. Set ssh to start and run automatically. Here's why: Users cannot follow directions, and getting them to boot, start dhcp, and do a reverse SSH connection so I can restore their drives is painstakingly difficult. However, if the Clonezilla disc can start DHCP and get an address, then connect to our VPN (uses /dev/tun), and I can then connect to them directly, my instructions are reduced to: "put this disc in the computer and reboot." I am fairly sure 3 & 4 can be accomplished with the OCS script mentioned here <http://clonezilla.org/advanced/customized-clonezilla-live.php>, but what about 1 & 2? Is GCC in the image? If it's like Knoppix, I'll need to install lzo's dev package. Then... how do I remaster it? -- Michael Munger, dCAP, MCPS, MCNPS, MBSS High Powered Help, Inc. Clonezilla should be able to convert that for you, so you just follow http://clonezilla.org/show-live-doc-content.php?topic=clonezilla-live/doc/02_Restore_disk_image to choose your "sda" as destination disk. If any issue, please let us know. //NOTE// Backup important data before you use Clonezilla. Just in case. Steven. Basically both works. However, for "cloned-drive" you need to have a spare disk for each OS status. With "disk-image", you could have multiple images on a disk for many different OS statuses. Steven. Hi, it is not a long time that I begun to use clonezilla, ...and already I had the benefit of saving an installation of my OS due to a defective hard disk. While initially I was following the instructions of a tutorial in order to make the backups, now I begin to ask myself some questions. Til now, I always made backups, making an "disk-image" -AS IT WAS RECOMENDED IN THE TUTORIAL-. But now I'm thinking that this way to work could not be (perhaps) the best: because it involves the restoration of HD using clonezilla yet. Now I'm thinking that the technique of the "cloned-drive" could be perhaps more practical, since (as I believe) allows you to use directly the cloned HD. Having no experience I would like to ask if what I think is right and I would like also get some more deepened information about the difference between the two ways of achieving clones: - disk-image - cloned-drive Thank you Regards Angelo |

The solution for MS Windows is always "FAT", and it's a black box so it's not easy to modify that under GNU/Linux. Steven. This release of Clonezilla live (2.3.2-22) includes major enhancements and bug fixes. ENHANCEMENTS and CHANGES * The underlying GNU/Linux operating system was upgraded. This release is based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2015/Feb/17). * Linux kernel was updated to 3.16.7-ckt4-3. * Package bindfs and ntpdate were added. * Partclone was updated to 0.2.76.drbl1, and partclone-utils was updated to 0.3.1-drbl1. * Package drbl was updated to 2.13.7-drbl1, and clonezilla was updated to 3.13.29-drbl1. * Syslinux was updated to 6.03+dfsg-5. * Languages files en_US, es_ES, it_IT, de_DE, sk_SK, ca_ES, ja_JP, and fr_FR were updated. Thanks to Juan Ramón Martínez, Gianfranco Gentili, Michael Vinzenz, Ondrej Dzivy Balucha, René Mérou, Akira YOSHIYAMA, and Jean-Francois Nifenecker. * An encryption mechanism for Clonezilla image files was added. * A boot parameter "ocs_dmesg_n" was added so that it can be used to set the level at which logging of messages is done to the console. If not assigned, prevents all messages, except emergency (panic) messages, i.e. n=1. Thanks to Greg Bell. * With the workaround proposed by Thomas Tsai, now the image repository could be on WebDAV server. * A file "dev-fs.list" containing device and file system list is added to Clonezilla image. * Packages refit and gptsync were removed because they are not in Debian repository anymore. * Now Clonezilla could be used to image Chromium OS or Chrome OS. * The default volume size is now set as 4096 MB instead of 2000 MB. * The option "-i, --image-size" description was added in the usage of ocs-sr. Thanks to Kirkx for this suggestion. (https://sourceforge.net/p/clonezilla/discussion/Clonezilla_live/thread/a5814dab) BUG FIXES * The single white space for target_parts should be treated as nothing. Thanks to Borksoft for reporting this issue. * Pvcreate failed to create PV on a disk with existing partition table. * The description about choosing image name in ocs-img-2-vdk was wrong. * Program ocs-img-2-vdk did not remove the temp downloaded clonezilla live iso. * "utc=no" failed to set the correct local time zone for system on Debian-based Clonezilla live. Thanks to rja for reporting this issue. * The volume size unit is MB, while "M" (MiB) was used for split in ocs-cvtimg-comp. * When checking if LVM exists in restoring, we should only check that in the image dir, not in the local partitions layout. * When no ethernet card exists, Clonezilla dialog menu was not shown for Ubuntu-based Clonezilla live. Thanks to Naoyuki Tai for reporting this issue.
