Hi Roderick,

You're getting extra entries in your tables because you're doing your  
queries before you get to the if statements.  If you only want to put  
the entry into the SQL table when the "if" condition is met, move the  
relevant query into the brackets of the if statement along with the  
related print commands.

The database is being updated as soon as the code hits the mysql_query 
statement, not when you call the result (i.e. $result_ReportNewDiversion 
on a line by itself), which doesn't do anything.  Move the lines with 
$result_<whatever> into the if statement and I think you'll get the 
result you are looking for.

I personally would suggest using Eclipse with the PHPEclipse plugin.  
You can use either DBG or XDebug. Be sure to use the nightly build  
because many bugs have fixed many which deal with debugging.

The only RT debugger I've ever managed to get working successfully is Zend 
Studio (5.5 is the latest version) with the ZendDebugger.  Be aware that 
there are different versions of the latter depending if you're on x32 or x64.  

I've heard of success with other systems, but I've never had any.

I was able to get the Zend debug on 5.1 working a couple of months ago, 
both from a Mac and Windows client.  At the time I was connecting to a 
WAMP on a Windows 2003 server. 

I had problems if the code ran too long - I think that it a timeout 
issue, but I didn't explore it further as I was able to debug in small 
chunks.

However, once I had xdebug installed, and I activated the stack trace, I 
found I did not actually need that step-by-step debugging as badly as 
before, and have done just fine without it since.

You don't have to define it as global outside the function. Just define the variable normally and use the global keyword to bring it into the function's scope.
