Is there some one use PHPLib with db_oracle.inc ? How it works? I am asking because of comments into db_oracle.inc: /* Due to a strange error with Oracle 8.0.5, Apache and PHP3.0.6 you don't need to set the ENV - on my system Apache will change to a zombie, if I don't set this to FALSE! If unsure try it out, if it works. */ Thanks. Joseph Azaryayev |

Also, the online MySQL documentation is excellent. There's a tutorial chapter that gives you enough information to work on for a while. Personally, I use that chapter, and O'Reilly's SQL in a nutshell book. Between those two, I feel pretty comfortable. Also, oreillynet.com has a series of general SQL articles that are pretty good. Hey Tamara-- OK, it's not exactly pocket size, but if you take the first chapter of the Rider book on MySQL, and the appendix of commands, and that's about exactly what you're looking for. aaaaaargh -- o.k., I finally have RedHat 7.2 (sorry, dm -- but, that's the way it goes) on the laptop and I even have php/mysql. Now, about this mysql -- I like using phpMyAdmin, I really do. But, since I seem to get some sort of kick out of making myself miserable, is there a good mysql tut on the net? I know, there's tons of info -- but some sort of pocket guide to the important commands? For example, I created a database, but I'll be darned if I can find it! Thanks all! <tamara /> who's also thinking about phpMyAdmin anyway . . . |

Also, doesn't that have to be in a PHP section of code? I've never seen HTML handle arrays before. And this is all well and good for assigning a 1 to every box that's checked but it doesn't assign a 0 to the unchecked boxes. Not automatically anyway. I suppose if I was using radio buttons for each element I could assign the value 1 to YES and 0 to NO but that seems a poor alternative. So, it seems to me that the next step is to have a loop to see if each element of the array has been assigned a "1" and if it hasn't then assign it a "0". This would need to occur before the implode statement, right? Or is it that I just don't even need zeros and if 4 boxes were; checked, unchecked, unchecked, checked then the implode statement would generate "1:::1". Am I getting warmer? >Then, simply use: > ><?php > $infotext = implode(":", $info); > # Put $infotext into MySQL >?> > >To display the current values: ><?php > # Get $infotext from MySQL 0:1:1:0:1... > $info = explode(":", $infotext); > while (list($index, $value) = each($info)){ > $checked = $value ? 'CHECKED' : ''; > echo "<INPUT TYPE=CHECKBOX NAME=info[$index] $checked> Info >$index<BR>\n"; > } >?> Do I read this right that you suddenly changed from "1" and "0" to "CHECKED" and "<nothing>"? (This kinda goes with my question above about maybe not needing zeros.) |

Hi folks, I'm on a project that requires a couple of fields with checkboxes. No problem creating a field in the form (HTML). Done that dozens of times. BUT, never done it in MySQL. Please somebody tell me I don't have to have 18 individual fields (9 times 2 to cover the options of both fields) in order to do this. Searching the MySQL website for "checkbox" produced limited results. In fact the only appropriate hit was an excerpt from Kevin Yank's book (joke database example) but he's using a relational database design where the "categories" are in a separate table and not different values in a single field (like I'm accustomed to in PC based relational DB programs). I don't think I need to go relational with this project so I'd rather not follow this example. Then I searched my email archive and found this (which I don't truly understand): At 04:22 PM 1/15/2002 +0000, j8h9 wrote: >Storing Multiple Values in a Single MySql Table Column (Using Explode/Implode) > >Some applications may have a need to store many values or switches in a >database. Make sure your variables are related. I use this method often >to store security bytes (switches) which control user access to specific >web pages or actions. > >Questions? Comments? Send me a note at tju...@ho... I created a field in the MySQL DB [ name = InfoRequested, type = varchar(255) ] but now I don't know how to write the PHP code to populate the field. Obviously there's an array involved in the field. Something like this? <input type="checkbox" name="InfoRequested[]" value="1"> Info Package 1 <input type="checkbox" name="InfoRequested[]" value="1"> Info Package 2 <input type="checkbox" name="InfoRequested[]" value="1"> Info Package 3 If that's proper then if only the first box is checked will it automatically know that $InfoRequested[1] and $InfoRequested[2] are "0"? If not then how do I make sure that happens? Do I make a conditional loop that says if ($InfoRequested[i] != "1") $InfoRequested[i] = "0"; ? I'd be grateful if someone could help me make sure I'm on the right track. Let's go ride, JP Honeywell |

Oh for crying out loud -- I guess that's what I deserve when I try coding without my usual 2 pots of caffeine -- It would probably help if I asked mysql for the field names!! duh! O.k., just in case anyone cares -- here's what I ended up with: <?php mysql_connect("xxxxxx","xxxxxxxx","xxxxxxx") or die ("Unable to connect to database."); mysql_select_db ("xxxxxx") or die ("Unable to select database."); $sql = "SELECT cid,client_name,username FROM authorize WHERE password='$password'"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or die ("Couldn't access username"); $num = mysql_numrows($result); if ($num == 1){ while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $client_name = $row["client_name"]; $username = $row["username"]; header("Location: /$username\n\n"); //this now directs to http://www.site.com/abbey --yay! } } else { echo ("<div id=main><span class=redtext>You are not authorized to enter this area!</span></div>"); } ?> So anyway, there's one big part of the project -- now I just have to see about those sessions in order to validate the user on the pages -- sounds like a project for next week. 8-) |

Yes, I actually did get that far, but the correct page is going to depend on the login so I wanted to redirect to something like http://www.site.com/$user That's where the thing falls apart -- when I did the login, I'm selecting from the db so that I have SELECT cid, user, password FROM authorize WHERE password=$password which lets me in, but if I try the next step with the $user, I'm getting http://www.site.com. I tried echoing out $user and $password, but only $password was actually printing to the page. I've been looking and I haven't seen anything, so I was wondering if this was even possible. Thanks <t /> |

I've taken a look around and I was wondering, is there any way to have a login and a redirect? Where the login would take the person to the correct page? I've done the login part, but when I try to add a redirect, it stops working. Thanks! <tamara /> |

Could be a newer version of PHP or a new configuration setting. If register_globals is set to On in your php.ini, then for the url page.php?variable=value You can automatically reference $variable Otherwise, with the newer php setups, you need $_GET["variable"] or $_POST["variable"] to access it. - jason scott gessner ja...@mu... |

Hi! Everyone, I am learning PHP recently. But, I got a problem when I tested my program. I tested a same program on two apache servers. One is working fine, I mean when users input their name and age, it will be showed on next page. (passing the value works fine.) But, When I runned this same program on another server, the valus did not pass to the next page. I do not what cause this problem. I even can not figure out what problem is? I know maybe it is a server configuration problemm, but how can I solve it? Can someone give some advices? thank you so much! Jessica Lee |

Hey guys and gals. I know that david is planning a CVS talk next Saturday, but I just got a brand spanking new redhat7.2 box (and I have a wedding to go to that day. :( ), so I was wondering if anyone could talk me through a CVS server install on redhat 7.2. I have done this on windows 2000/XP, but am moving it to the right platform now. :) Please email or call me if you are willing to help. Thanks! -jason scott gessner ja...@mu... 630.542.7974 |
