We have a "Contract to hire" opportunity at my company. This is a full time gig downtown, blocks from Union Station. We are in the midst of several large scale, green field, projects. So this is not just "patch and paint" work. We are using OO JS, OO PHP, OO CSS, HTML5, mobile and tablet based technologies. The emphasis of this position is front end developer, a junior CSS/HTML/JavaScript developer; PHP is a plus. A sense of UI/UX design wouldn't hurt either. Please; know these technologies well: * OO Javascript * JSON notation * JSON data transfer * OO CSS * x-browser CSS * xHTML 1.1 Please have an idea of these technologies * know about HTML 5 * can spell PHP and willing to learn more Last but not least, a willingness to learn new technologies and techniques. If your interested in working in a fast paced pressure cooker (pressure makes diamonds!), please reply back directly to me. Walter PS: No agencies, no head hunters please. PPS: please pass this to other lists that would be appropriate. |

One of our Divisions has a contract job. We would prefer working with an individual. This was posted for India/South American devs on oDesk as it's not a high paying project. The total budget is $2000 and I expect it to take about 100 hours. It may however, be a fit for Jr Developer on the list who needs a project? Job DescriptionThe project is a web based wizard that will generate hardware configurations for voicemail systems. There will be a database that supports the application and this will be provided for the developer as well as a basic custom framework to develop in. The project will also have a Sr. Developer providing support and answering questions and basically managing the project. The project will have a VPS server provided to the developer to work on and maintain the code for the project. This system will not be that different than a quiz builder type application where an admin is able to create a new quiz by going through a configuration process. This configuration is then saved and becomes a 'wizard' that will be presented to support personnel to generate a configuration script for a voicemail system change. A full scope will be provided and we do have existing code that will be included in the project including an existing wizard class. The project is scoped for about 100 hours or something like 3 weeks time frame. So, to recap- you will be provided access to dev server with an svn. The database you will work with will be created for you. There will be a framework to develop on and handle basic tasks like queries and AJAX updates and how to set up a new module. We ideally want someone in the Central Timezone or not that far off. Must have very good OOP skills and write clean code and understand concise coding practices as well as MVC style development. Send a short list of recent projects you've completed and at least 2-3 code samples. No code samples, no reply. I'm approaching the end of a year-long employment contract, and I am preparing to enter the job market. I'd appreciate answers to any of the following questions: 1. What are nice companies to work for *in Chicago*? I want to minimize my commute, and irrespective of whether they have an advertised opening, I'd like to present myself because an opportunity can be created if there is a good fit. 2. What *non-traditional* job search resources / advice can you recommend? I think everyone already knows about Dice.com, and I'm looking for something that will help me stand apart from the competition. 3. What is a good way to connect to other people? Especially over the next 3 months, I'm going to have a lot of knowledge about jobs that I won't or can't accept and being able to make referrals is a good way to build goodwill. -- Juan Boyce 708-374-7489 (708) 3 PHP GUY http://www.juanboyce.com |

I have some designer friends looking for a resource. I don't have time for this myself but agreed to forward some contacts. Send a short cover letter with basics and one original code sample. Also need one designer reference you've worked with. Preference is for someone who is comfortable working with a design team and writes clean code. There is an E-Commerce project they are quoting now so consider that as well. I also have another referral for anyone that knows Flex. Contract job through a recruiter. I'll forward that on request. UserCake looks fine. I was going to suggest, it's probably better to pick a small framework written by 1 developer whose code you like and understand (because they code like you would) then get some larger CMS thing written by 30+ people. You will spend less time overall.
