Nice project that pays well and will last with room to be full time at a good company. Need someone that is either a Jr. Dev backend or a good front-end person that wants to learn a bit of backend. Not looking for anyone (or companies) doing project work or has a history of Drupal or Wordpress projects. This is a business application running on a custom framework and you need OOP skills and the ability to write custom code. That said- opportunity is open to anyone that has a good coding sample. Something creative. We'll train anyone with potential and creative spirit. Art/music background a plus. Letter and code sample is more important than resume. I don't want links to websites. Regards, Matt |

I believe I can talk the boss into one day work@home per month, and reboot ChiPHPug, with a meeting in the late afternoon... My evening "spare" time has to go to Family/kids for the next ~8 years. Would this work for anybody else? Can you sneak out of work to attend a monthly PHP meeting? The 4 I have are not in order, necessarily. Absolutely need a free venue close to CTA train[s] with free WiFi. Proximity to loop preferred, as that's easiest for most for travel. Collaboration with a good co-op co-worker meetup would be nice. A projector would be nice. Hi list, Is there anyone on this list who has experience with performance-tuning Joomla apps? I know a team who has a joomla app with some serious bottlenecks, and we're looking to find an auditor for the app, to see if we can't reduce the worst of them. The job would involve examining the code-base at the bottlenecks and seeing if you can identify and optimize the performance at these points. Let me know if that might be you, and we can talk further. Thanks, Sarah -- http://www.twitter.com/fablednet http://www.fabled.net/blog/ |

Hi there, I'm posting for a friend whose company has been accepted into an incubator for the summer. He is looking for someone who not only can expand the current codebase, but who can add automated tests (it has none); ensure it fits into a framework (it looks to be in some type of partial framework, I'm not sure which one unless hand-rolled); and bring it up to par so it can expand well. He can explain more of the details. If you're interested, contact "Mike Fisher" <mik...@st...>. Good luck! >From Mike: ***** We want to bring on a dedicated developer for the time we're in the program to maximize our efficiency and enable us to be as flexible as possible. We handle the front end of the system using a GUI web program, which outputs a mixture of HTML, CSS, and javascript. See our site http://weddings.storymixmedia.com We are not locked into what our current developer has done (I'm sure he has some ugly hacks), but we need to maintain the functionality to service customers. Our first goal is to automate as many steps in our workflow as possible and make everything more efficient. We also have specific areas that we want to improve the functionality and usability. Finally, we have some ideas of possible iPhone apps. The idea is to have someone dedicated full time for the 10 weeks of the program. Obviously it will help to have them start looking at our stuff ahead of time. The perfect person would have a real interest in what we're doing (weddings, small business, photo and video) and possibly want to become an early member of our team. We'll have some money to spend ($5-$10k), but the ideal person would want the opportunity to join us on the ground floor as we build a new national brand. This summer would be a great trial to see if there is a match. We don't need them to relocate to Austin (although that would be great). Of course we realize finding the 'perfect' person will be tough. ***** Best, Sarah -- |

Greetings, The sixth annual BARcamp Chicago "Unconference" will be held on July 9th & 10th at the community makerspace Pumping Station: One. BARcamp Chicago is a great place to learn new skills, network with the best of Chicago's tech community and maybe even get a head start on founding your own business. But unlike regular conferences, at BARcamp it is the attendees who hold the talks and run the activities. If you are a technology enthusiast and have a desire to teach or learn, BARcamp Chicago is an event you will not want to miss. Right now we are trying to get an idea of who is planning to attend this year. While registration is not required, if you are planning to attend we would appreciate it if you sign up on our EventBrite: http://barcampchicago.eventbrite.com/. If you would like more information about BARcamp Chicago, our website is http://www.barcampchicago.org/. If you would like to provide suggestions about what you want and don't want to see at this year's BARcamp, please do so at http://barcampchicago.uservoice.com/. Finally, if you are interested in helping plan BARcamp Chicago, please sign up on our planning list here: http://groups.google.com/group/barcamp-chicago/. BARcamp is only possible by generous contributions from sponsors. If your company is interested in sponsoring BARcamp Chicago, please e-mail Kevin at kha...@ba.... Hello All, I have a friend, Mike Fisher, whose startup has been accepted into an early stage accelerator for tech startups, Capital Factory ( http://www.capitalfactory.com/). They will be moving to Austin, TX for the summer in order to take part in the program. He has a first-version site that has existing customers, but will be doing significant dev & UI changes on it over the summer, with an eye for making the site more efficient and automating many of the steps. They are looking for a developer, either a contract worker, or, in the words of Mike, someone who "would have a real interest and want to become an early member of our team". So the opportunity is there for either role. As I haven't seen the code-base, it's unclear to me if the project would best be served by reworking the existing code-base, or building a new one. The team would best be served by an efficient, clean, and tested code-base, so he's looking to find someone with an eye for architecture who would build well-tested code. He'd prefer someone in Austin (for that time), but would be OK with remote if the person was a good fit. He's a nice guy and the site is in the wedding-video space, which is quite a large market -- I imagine it has lots of growth possibility. Email Mike Fisher (mik...@st...) and tell him I sent you, if you are interested in learning more. Here's a brief description from Mike: ***** Our current site is a mixture of php, javascript, and AJAX. Plus we use a custom MySQL database to automatically build our ordering system, Storyboard, dashboard, and email systems. We also take the php code from the Storyboard and covert it into XML for use in Final Cut (which might all be changing due to a new version coming out). I handle the front end of the system using a GUI web program, which outputs a mixture of HTML, CSS, and javascript. We are not locked into what our current developer has done but we need to maintain the functionality to service customers. My thought is that we will be looking to automate as many steps in our workflow as possible and make everything more efficient. We also have specific areas that we want to improve the functionality and usability. Finally, we have some ideas of possible iPhone apps. *** Thanks, Sarah -- http://www.twitter.com/fablednet http://www.fabled.net/blog/ |
