Hey, I apologize if this is answered on the FAQ or in the Wiki -- I couldn't get either of them to resolve. Does cgiirc support SSL? - Craig "Ne te quaesiveris extra." |

most irc clients autodetect utf-8 on incoming text and assume its a local= ly relavent character set (generally iso-8859-1 or windows-1252 which are ve= ry similar for western setups) if its not valid utf-8 unfortunately mirc is = the exception being only able to render windows-1252 at least on western wind= ows setups. i'm not sure how cgiirc behaves in this regard since its a while since i'= ve used it can anyone clarify if it also does this kind of autodetection on incoming text (if not it probablly should). one unfortunate thing about irc is its too old to have character sets specified by the protocol. > -----Original Message----- > From: cgi...@li... > [mailto:cgi...@li...]On Behalf Of > joh...@ar... > Sent: 19 October 2005 15:34 > To: cgi...@li... > Subject: [cgiirc-general] (no subject) > > > HI, > > I'm quite new here and just I get on your nervs with this > question, nonetheless I hope you can help me. > I have a question to you. HI, I'm quite new here and just I get on your nervs with this question, nonethe= less I hope you can help me. I have a question to you. Which chracter set I have to choose, if I want to= write or read letters like '=E4', '=F6', '=FC' or '=DF'. Either utf-8 nor = iso8859-1 is working on every browser/irc application. The funny thing is, that it might depend on the character set, other chatti= ng people are using. Some see the right letters, other only see some funny = signs. Is it an configuration fault on my config-file, or depends it on the server= /os the cgiirc-script is running? what do I need to know, wo configure my s= cript right? I would be pleased, if you can help me. Greets John Machen Sie aus 14 Cent spielend bis zu 100 Euro! Hi List, the installation was fine and CGI::IRC is working. But after approximately 30 lines of text the client hung up and after approx. 1 minute the irc-server say: ping timeout. I've tested the client with euirc.net and several servers of this network but I think this is not a network-issue. Possible its just a timeout-setting in a conf-file of perl or so? DO you have any idea how can I solve the ping-timeouts? Thank you so much, Regards, Bleistift |

it sounds like thats because its not your server and it seems very unlikely that you will be able to run an identd. for ident to work the identd has to be triggered by incoming connections on a privilaged port so unless you have root access you have no way to set this up. -----Original Message----- From: cgi...@li... Basically Safari doesn't always support streams that CGI:IRC use, so therefore it will not always work on Safari, this is a Safari problem. The message comes from CGI:IRC because it notices this and so recommends you use Firefox. There is a workaround but unfortunately it's not something you can really tell users to do: - Enable the Debug menu in Safari, - Near the bottom there is a 'Supported Protocols' option, - Remove the tick next to 'http: (Simple Loader)' (leaving CFNetwork Loader ticked), - CGI:IRC should work. You have to do this each time you run Safari too, so it's not really a long term workaround. The reason it sometimes seems to work is Safari presumably chooses to use the CFNetwork loader - I don't know why this is though. If you want to test it try http://dgl.otherwize.co.uk/teststream.cgi with the different loaders. David. |

Also, one thing to note is that usually a cgi-bin directory is called just that: cgi-bin. Are you sure that your cgi-bin mapping is set to the simple directory of just "cgi"? Try hitting this URL and see if you don't get better results: www.mydomainname.net/cgi-bin/irc.cgi Even if the directory on your web server is simply called "cgi" your apache mapping usually points to "cgi-bin". You'll also want to make sure your web server supports mod_perl. Hope this helps! -- Warm regards, Jordan Michaels Vivio Technologies http://www.viviotech.net/ jo...@vi... |

I've never installed a cgi/perl app before. I am used to working with php. I downloaded the .zip archive of CGI:IRC and unzipped it to my desktop (WinXP Pro). I then uploaded it (via FTP Voyager) to the CGI bin of my web server (a linux server). I then pointed my browser at www.mydomainname.net/cgi/irc.cgi and I got a 404 message. Now before I go checking permissions and mucking around, is this how you install a cgi app? Just copy it to a folder under the cgi bin and point a browser to it as you would any other address? Thanks for your time. -Adam R. |

I have a PHP scripted site that is using cgiirc. My current config file tries to set the username but the IRC servers requires the username be unique for each user. As a result the first user into cgiirc gets in fine and all others fail. How do I via the HTML form that I use to connect the user, set a unique username (not to be confused with nickname). --Tony |

Hi, I have just installed and configured cgi irc for my irc channel, but what i wanted was a way (if there is one) of changing what the hostmask that appears is. This is because at home (where i run cgiirc from) has a hugely long hostmask. If possible, i would rather this be the IP, or a given mask. Cheers for any help you may provide. Steve |
