hello, i am from portuguese wikipedia and we were creating a webchat interface for our irc channel, #wikipedia-pt hosted on irc.freenode.net. the page is http://wiki-chat-pt.awardspace.com, and it tries to use the irc chat located at http://chat.wikizine.org (this is meant to be temporary, we will host our own cgiirc chat soon) it doesnt work, though, so my question is: why doesnt it work (would it be because we are trying to access it from another site?), and how could we make it work. thanks in advance, waldir |

http://gorgeworld.com/cgi-bin/gwcirc/irc.cgi I have installed cgiirc into the cgi-bin for my apache2 server, and given it world executable privileges. It appears to be set up correctly, and tries to run, then gives 500: Internal server error. salvati0n[/www/cgi-bin/gwcirc]# perl irc.cgi warnings.pm did not return a true value at irc.cgi line 26. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at irc.cgi line 26. Does anyone have a quick fix? Thanks in advance! _jason -- ____________________________ property of orbsucks.com (c) 2007 |

Hi, I've been using cgiirc for a couple of years on a linux server, now I had to change servers, and I tried to install it on another linux server. But I can't get it to work, and I'm running out of ideas. The apache log says like this: [Tue Jan 16 12:57:46 2007] [error] Can't locate parse.pl in @INC (@INC contains: modules interfaces /home/httpd/perl /etc/perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.7/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.7 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl . /usr/lib/apache2) at /var/www/localhost/cgi-bin/cgiirc-0.5.9/irc.cgi line 34.\n This is the contents of the cgiirc directory: drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Jan 16 12:47 . drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jan 16 12:46 .. -rw-r--r-- 2 root root 105 Jan 16 12:46 .htaccess -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1109 Jan 16 12:47 cgiirc.config -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1117 Jan 16 12:46 cgiirc.config~ -rwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2377 Jan 16 12:46 client-perl.cgi -rw-r--r-- 2 root root 5141 Jan 16 12:46 client.c drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jan 16 12:46 formats drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jan 16 12:46 images drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jan 16 12:46 interfaces -rwxr-xr-x 2 root root 7747 Jan 16 12:46 irc.cgi drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jan 16 12:46 modules -rwxr-xr-x 2 root root 37832 Jan 16 12:46 nph-irc.cgi This is the modules directory: drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jan 16 12:46 . drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Jan 16 12:47 .. -rw-r--r-- 2 root root 14 Jan 16 12:46 .htaccess -rw-r--r-- 2 root root 8277 Jan 16 12:46 Command.pm -rw-r--r-- 2 root root 2517 Jan 16 12:46 Event.pm drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jan 16 12:46 IRC -rw-r--r-- 2 root root 5110 Jan 16 12:46 IRC.pm -rw-r--r-- 2 root root 3151 Jan 16 12:46 Timer.pm -rw-r--r-- 2 root root 3351 Jan 16 12:46 parse.pl And what I can see, the file parse.pl is located under the modules directory, I've tried all kinds of permissions on the files, and even try to move the parse.pl script to the same directory as irc.cgi. The strange thing is that when I run the script from the shell, it nicely prints out the html. Could this have anything to do with mod-perl2 ? That's the main change from my old server I think. Any ideas? /Jesper |

It sounds like a web server issue to me, it could be because something is causing buffering (e.g. mod_gzip, mod_deflate on Apache). Try following the instructions on http://cvs.cgiirc.org/wiki?p=StreamProblems to see if that can help. David |

I have giirc setup but it is not working properly. The ircd is setup and working good. I can connect via mirc and other clients. I can even connect via other cgiirc to my server. My server is in my basement and I am trying to connect from same network not behind NAT. It does work from outside on other cgiirc's but not on the local one. I can get the login screen. I set the nick, server and channel. I get the interface but that's it. If I type in the area it does nothing when I hit enter it says ":not connected to IRC. It actually logs into irc server because my other clients see's the nick. After four minutes or so, one time it came up ok and I typed one message and it showed up in channel but after that it did the same thing. I need some guidance on where I should be looking for the troubles. Thanks in advance, Bob |

Addendum: running small tests here I discovered that using sound.dispatchEvent("play") seems to play the sound file of a nonhidden embed element both in Opera and in Mozilla SeaMonkey. So if the suggested changes are done to <embed> elements, chaning if (sound) sound.play() into if (sound) { if (sound.play) sound.play() ; else sound.dispatchEvent("play") ; } is more likely to work in a wider range of setups. -- Giuseppe "Oblomov" Bilotta "I weep for our generation" -- Charlie Brown |

Hello, CGI:IRC is really an amazing piece of software, and I've started using it to provide quicklinks from the fora I follow to the respective IRC channel. To speed up connection, I set up the links in such a way that the "custom login" form is bypassed, with all settings already assigned in the link (nickname, channel, charset, etc ... btw, is there a way to set the Username?). The one particular thing I'm doing is to bypass browser detection and just use interface=ie. The reason for this is that I found that this interface is the most complete one and it works "almost" perfectly also in Mozilla (SeaMonkey and Firefox) and in Opera. I haven't tested it in Konqueror or Safari yet, but given the speed at which these browsers progress I wouldn't be surprised they'll soon be able to cope with it without hassles. In fact, with the limited testing I've given to the various interfaces, I found ie to be the one that works best with Opera and SeaMonkey, even better than the 'specific' ones (at least with the versions of the browsers I'm using, very recent even if not bleeding-edge). So I was wondering if it was worth to just fix the minor glitches in the ie interface and give it as good for any recent browsers, and only use the other interfaces for the oldest versions. I think this would reduce maintenance cost. Anyway, the crucial point of this email is that the biggest glitch I've found with the ie interface in Opera and Mozilla has been the sound playing. It "almost" work, in the sense that neither Opera nor Mozilla support the play() method for HTMLEmbedElement objects in JavaScript: this causes a JavaScript error that halts the script execution (so for example join messages are not seen). I'm looking for a cross-platform JavaScript to play/pause/stop sounds. In the mean time, I suggest the ie template be updated to change if (sound) sound.play(); into if (sound) { if(sound.play) sound.play() } to make the script work without fail in all browsers. Further possible enhancements consists in adding the attribute enablejavascript="true" to the <embed> elements, and use width=0 height=0 instead of hidden="true". -- Giuseppe "Oblomov" Bilotta "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." I had a few people email me about having the same problem. I was told by a couple of people, including David himself that it was likely my host blocking access to IRC. And in fact, it was. They even went to the extent o= f letting me know that if I kept the script installed, they would be suspending my account. Anyhow, I've been using a private portal on a friends hosting for about 3-4 years now as he has kept it updated for me. I no longer do I have access to that due to him canceling his account. Not sure if I'm supposed to do this on this mailing list, but if anyone has a link to one I can use, or if they would be nice enough to let me have private access, I would be more than happy to cover the expense of the bandwidth I use if necessary. Hello, The CGI:IRC script I have installed ( http://www.techreadysolutions.com/irc/irc.cgi) is giving me problems. I understand the images don't work, I haven't set it up. But I am confused as to why my script continues to time out. Is there something in the configuration that would be holding it back? What are the reasons for it doing that? GameSurge is a large network, so I can't imagine that it would be on the network side. Thanks, -Travis T. |

Hello, i've found something on the webpage where i'm not sure if it is a bug or wanted. If you click on "Docs index" in the main menu on the right you get to a list of links, including a link named "Customising". The same time a submenu called "Documentation" appears below the main menu on the right. In this submenu, the link called "Customising" is not listed. Best regards, Fabian Stelter |

The ircd module required for this feature doesn't work with 3.2.4 so you either don't support it, drop back to v3.2.3 or live with it not working. I stopped supporting CGI:IRC until someone fixes it, have had several complaints over it's forced lack of support but when a package isn't complete in it's proposed functionality then it's garbage and when people respond with the obvious lack of knowledge that an external module is required and should be part of this package I figure it's time to wait until the people involve din it's development either fix it or provide an alternative solution. The people who did respond on this list didn't even know what I was talking about and probably still don't, they don't realize that aside from the perl/php scripts, a binary module which must be added to the ircd config is also required to make this work and it's currently not being developed for several years now so I wouldn't hold my breathe on a solution any time soon. I was thinking about fixing it however with the lack of any real ircd API or knowledge from anyone here about the existing module I'd be better off writing something from scratch than to spend my time guessing at something that isn't complete and lacks information. |
