I'm not sure either. Sean might have intended the bodington_2_9_0 tag to also represent the root of the 2_8 branch, but I think it's clearer with an additional tag. I don't have a problem with the 'Root_branch_2_8' tag name (although it is a bit ugly). Isn't what it represents more obvious than 'bodington_2_8_0'? (You might still see the deleted branch in your CVS client.) Eclipse automatically creates a tag at the branch point called Root_bodington_2_8, if you're wondering what that was... The TReCX wiki is now residing at http://bodington.org/wiki/index.php?title=Trecx:TReCX this is as a result of some naughty hackery. The machine which used to host the wiki has been compromised and had to be taken out of service. You may of course recall that the blog server also got hacked and we had to move that too. Didn't have much luck did we! adam |

Alistair Young wrote: > is it necessary to explicitly run /setup instead of /site? Yes > will / > setup not drop and recreate existing tables and lose the existing > content? No (unless you choose that option). When you run /setup it should tell you what version of the code the existing database is compatible with. It also lists existing tables and missing tables. If you choose to continue, it will run the upgrade SQL and then give you a page with a link to enter the site (that's when I had to reload the webapp, as the clicking on the link to go to the site gave me an error page.) If you run /setup again, after upgrading and reloading, it should report the database as supporting the current version, and there should be no list of missing tables. Why don't you test it with a database dump, and see what harpoons? Is it something else that should be run? When you run the 2.8 code against an existing database it should detect the version (by looking at existing tables) and then automatically run any SQL necessary. Obviously test it on a dump of your live data first! You'll need to run the NewsFeed SQL separately, as it's not included in the upgrade code. Thanks Colin. I'm showing my ignorance here but how does one run the upgrade code? I presume running setup on a live database is a bad thing? Is it something else that should be run? Alistair Young wrote: > Dearest bodders, it's been a while but now we're upgrading to 2.8 A couple of things that need to be done on the SForge cvs (probably best done before anyone starts committing/updating from the branch): 1) Change branch name to 2_8 instead of 2_8_0 2) Update licence wording on branch to match HEAD (branch still has 'Copyright 2006 Bodington.org') -- ____________________________________ Colin Tatham VLE Team Oxford University Computing Services http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ltg/vle/ http://bodington.org |

The SQL for NewsFeeds needs to be run: /server/resources/NewsFeedResource.sql I think Aggie added QuickLinks to the upgrade code, so you shouldn't need to run anything for them...
