We (OK me, 'cos it wasn't squeaky clean!) refactored the resourceMenuItem() methods in Facility for WebLearn. The method was very torturous, and tried to handle Resources and Uploaded File/folders in a long method. (And it also had special case code for Headings!) Trying to diff Facility in an diff tool seems to be a nightmare in this case, so I'm afraid I'm going to dump the WebLearn code over the current code. I'm looking for comments/changes in the CVS history, but if you know you did something that I might overwrite, please let me know! Hello, I would like to see work from the Portole project to be incorporated in Bod 2.7 and later releases. http://www.leeds.ac.uk/portole/ To recap, it carries out federated searches based on Z39.50 to build up reading lists. It was managed by Leeds and developed by Colin and Antony. I know that MDC should provide a more flexible set-up by providing a service and various clients, but that's still not available. It may take 2 or 3 weeks to get Portole updated for incorporation, but I think it is a genuinely useful tool that can add another selling point too. Not least, I don't think we should neglect the considerable effort that went into it otherwise it seems to me an unfortunate waste of effort. What do people think? - Paul |

I've added EasyBuilder, TextBlock and ImageBlock. Not all of the features of EasyBuilder are available (the ones that rely on QuickLinks and my keyword searching which we haven't added yet), and I'll need to do some work still on making the templates look like the new UHI ones. I've added links in the creation menu for Suite and Floor for EasyBuilder, but at the moment the only way to create TextBlocks or ImageBlocks is to do it as part of EasyBuilder. Let me know if anyone feels that they'd like me to pull any of the above out! Hiya, I've finally finished support for HSQLDB in SetupServlet :-) At the moment it is a HUGE change to SetupServlet (number of lines). It adds some new screens so that the flow makes more sense when setting up an inprocess HSQL database. Because of the design of SetupServlet this was not very easy and I ended up rewriting some other sections of the code and cleaning things up in the process. I have the "new and improved" SetupServlet in my workspace at the moment and can commit it back now. It's not finished/polished but the bulk of the work is done and it works. It just needs testing and debugging. If I commit it back first thing tomorrow we can go with it and see how it works, then if there is are too many serious problems we can roll SetupServlet back to it's state before my commit. Does this sound ok to people? NB: A rewrite of SetupServlet wouldn't be a bad thing as it is rather a mess, but that can happen another day. -- +--Matthew Buckett-----------------------------------------+ | VLE Developer, Learning Technologies Group | | Tel: +44 (0) 1865 283660 http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ | +------------Computing Services, University of Oxford------+ |

Now then chaps. (Says Adam adopting FC mode.) I think we have to be VERY careful when changing things like this. We really shouldn't change behaviour - our users will go mad if we do things behind their backs. Sure - add new functionality but don't remove old functionality - think of all the documentation that people will have to change to reflect this change - they wont even know its changed until users start complaining that they are following the instructions but the instructions are wrong. In my opinion this should be fixed before 2.6 is released. Why not offer both options - ie, you can put in http[s]://....../site/ if you want but don't have to. Bodington can find out what the local "http[s]://....../site/" string is so you can do a sed -e s$^http[s]://....../site/$$g command before storage. What say you all up there in the sunny north? I've just checked in to bodington HEAD updates and modifications to templates and their corresponding resource files, which should leverage a single property to describe the institutional system name, e.g. Bodington, CLAN, WebLearn. This property is called 'institutional.system.name' and is specified in res/generic/template_sites_*.properties. Where appropriate, I also inserted line-breaks into multi-line statements (via use of the magic '\' character) and gave property names more meaningful values. It's probably good if you can get the gist of what a template does without needing the corresponding resource file. Obviously this can wait for another day ( ;-) ), but the use of a 'institutional.system.name' property really requires "compound messages". Different languages may require this name to be at either the front, or at the back. The value within the resource file needs to be itself referring to another parameterized property (the system name). The following links describe this better than I can at present!: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/i18n/format/messageFormat.html http://java.sun.com/j2se/5.0/docs/api/java/text/MessageFormat.html -- + - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + | Alexis O'Connor, VLE Developer (http://bodington.org) | | OUCS, 13 Banbury Road, Oxford, OX2 6NN, UK. | | Tel. +44 (0)1865 283661 | + - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + |
