Hello, Actually all the project data are saved inside python files. Maybe it would be better idea to use external resource files (for example in XML format), where project properties, form data, etc. could be saved? Other RADs uses such files: res, gnome, dfm, frm, dsp, vbp... greets, Rafal |

Quick tutorial: Create new app: Click Palette->New->wxApp. Save frame: Click Editor->Save Save app: Click Editor->Save Run app: Click Editor->Run module After you've done this once or twice I hope you'll find it less bewildering. My best advice would be to just play around with the interface. > What is > the point of not having a menu bar? Version 0.0.3 had no menu bars, 0.0.4 has one on the Editor window. Is there any help that demonstrates how to go about constructing an app with the boa constructor tool? I find the interface bewildering. I can barely create a completely empty app, save it and run it. What is the point of not having a menu bar? Just cursory examination seems to make it extremely bewildering about how to open or save a project. I'm sure it's got lots of nice features but they are cleverly concealed. Hi, I downloaded the latest files from the cvs and after copying ndiff from Tools\scripts in the python distrib to the ExternalLib dir of Boa, I got it running. However when I close the ShowTip window the whole IDE closes, with the following walkback: Traceback (innermost last): File "Boa.py", line 107, in ? File "Boa.py", line 100, in main File "Boa.py", line 52, in __init__ class BoaApp(wxApp): File "F:\Devtools\Python\wxPython\wx.py", line 1631, in __init__ _wxStart(self.OnInit) File "Boa.py", line 81, in OnInit self.main.editor.openModule(sys.argv[1]) File "Boa.py", line 97, in ShowTip showTip = wxShowTip(frame, tp) IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'F:\\DevTools\\Python\\Boa\\data/showTip' At first I thought it was because my files would've been checked out as read-only, but that wasn't the case. What am I doing wrong here? Regards, Robin. |

Hi all, The SourceForge CVS has been updated. Mostly bug fixes. The GTK version looks a little bit better, but it still core dumps now and again, especially when you close modules / views. I'm still looking for people to help out on Linux. Jimbo Anonymous WinCVS is actually easier than write access as you don't need to get SSH going, you can try the following to checkout the whole boa source tree: From the main menu set CvsAdmin->Preferences->General->CVSROOT : ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/Boa-Constructor CvsAdmin->Login... Enter empty password CvsAdmin->Checkout module... Choose destination directory Checkout Settings->Module name/path on server : boa Hope this helps -- Riaan >>> a='a=%s;a%%`a`';a%`a` ___________________________________________________ Boa Constructor - RAD GUI building IDE for wxPython http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net |

Riaan, I checked out the latest CVS sources of Boa Constructor, hoping that Boa would be productive enough for me to use it to at least design my GUI's for wxPython. Unfortunately when I tried running it, it just dumped out with this traceback: E:\boa>python boa.py importing wxPython... imported wxPython imported Prefs Traceback (innermost last): File "boa.py", line 23, in ? import Palette File "E:\BOA\Palette.py", line 14, in ? import PaletteMapping File "E:\BOA\PaletteMapping.py", line 24, in ? from wxPython.calendar import wxCalendarCtrl File "C:\PROGRA~1\PYTHON\wxPython\calendar.py", line 16, in ? from utils import * File "C:\PROGRA~1\PYTHON\wxPython\utils.py", line 4, in ? class wxConfigBasePtr : File "C:\PROGRA~1\PYTHON\wxPython\utils.py", line 5, in wxConfigBasePtr Type_Unknown = utilsc.wxConfigBase_Type_Unknown AttributeError: wxConfigBase_Type_Unknown Is this caused by an incompatibility with the version of wxPython that I have installed? If so, what can be done to fix it, or is there anything I can specifically look at. I don't have time today to figure out what is wrong, but if you could point me in the right direction, I can look at it. Thanks for a potentially great product! Travis B. Hartwell |

Version 0.0.3 is getting a bit dated as it was written for 2.1.13 There is a new version available from CVS. To get 0.0.3 running add: from wxPython.grid import wxGrid to PaletteMapping.py The OnCloseWindow events also don't fire automatically anymore but the above should be enough to give you a preview. -- Riaan >>> a='a=%s;a%%`a`';a%`a` ___________________________________________________ Boa Constructor - RAD GUI building IDE for wxPython http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net |

Hello Boa people This my very first question here, I'm getting myself into Python/wxPython and I see here a killer combination. I come from Delphi and I love visual programming, I don't want to write things like SetPosition(10,10) if I can avoid it I just downloaded Boa 0.0.3 but I cant make it work, when I run Boa.py I get the error: NameError: wxGrid in file PaletteMapping.py line 23 palette = [.... I have wxPython 2.1.16 and all the demos that come with it run ok Am I missing something, there is some instalation to make (by the way I included the boa directory in the python path but it dosn't help) (I'm using Win98 Second Edition) Well that's it I will apreciate any help, or pointers to help Thanks Jaime Barciela _____NetZero Free Internet Access and Email______ http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html |

Hello all, This is just a ping in the silence and a quick update: * not much progress with the slowdown/leak problem * alot of progress with Collection Editors. These are editors that visually maintain a list of sub-items for a component. You now have properties like wxListCtrl.Columns, wxImageList.Images Hang in there. -- Riaan >>> a='a=%s;a%%`a`';a%`a` ___________________________________________________ Boa Constructor - RAD GUI building IDE for wxPython http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net |
