Hello, First of all I would just like to say that I think Boa is fantastic! I cannot, however, successfully add layout constraints using Boa. Here are the problems I am having: 1. When new Constraints are added using the Collection Editor, the only available constraints are Left, Right, Top, Bottom. There is no way to add any other types of constraints, e.g. Width or Height. 2. When defining the individual Constraint, the OtherWindow cell doesn't do anything. I think this is where I should be able to specify the object that I want this constraint to be relative to, but I am not sure. 3. If I fully constrain an object using Left, Right, Top and Bottom constraints, and edit the code to include the OtherWindow specification, the constraint still does not seem to work. If anyone could please send me an example of sucessfully implemented constraints or tell me what I'm doing wrong, I would be very appreciative. Thank you. Wayne Boras |

I've attached an example. At the moment Boa still cannot set methods which need more than one parameter at design-time. To Boa these aren't properties. I intend to split up these methods into virtual properties, e.g. splitter1.SplitHorizontally(panel1, panel2) would be the following properties: Window1: panel1 Window2: panel2 SplitMode: wxSPLIT_HORIZONTAL -- Riaan >>> a='a=%s;a%%`a`';a%`a` ___________________________________________________ Boa Constructor - RAD GUI building IDE for wxPython http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net |

Hi! I'd like to report a bug. I'm using Python 1.5.2 on WinNT 4, Boa-0.0.4.zip, wxPython-2.2.1. I just created a new app with Boa and saved the two files (app and frame) in a subdirectory of the dir Boa lives in. Then, i wanted to create a static text. When it appeared as selected, i clicked into the inspector and gave it a new text. When i confirmed my change with the "hook" button of the inspector, Boa crashed. This was the console output of the complete session: importing wxPython... imported wxPython imported Editor imported PaletteMapping imported Editor imported Inspector imported Palette print here b: E:\boa\test c: E:\boa\wxFrame1.py differ at 1 b, i: 2 1 b: E:\boa\test c: E:\boa\test\wxFrame1.py b, i: 2 1 size from ctrl select ctrl $$$selection tags select control SelectionTags: selectObj e:class <C wxEvtHandler instance at _b752d0_wxEvtHandler_p> wxEvtHandlerPtr for EventHandler not supported e:class <C wxIcon instance at _b753d4_wxIcon_p> wxIconPtr for Icon not supported on click trap <C wxPyCommandEvent instance at _b4d980_wxPyCommandEvent_p> select none select none 2 select ctrl $$$selection tags select control SelectionTags: selectObj e:class <C wxEvtHandler instance at _b485c0_wxEvtHandler_p> wxEvtHandlerPtr for EventHandler not supported size from ctrl create IEC: <C wxTextCtrl instance at _b9d160_wxTextCtrl_p> companion: setting name from staticText1 to Dirks FileFinder select ctrl $$$selection tags select control SelectionTags: selectObj Boa's a great program, anyway. I'm sure it's possible, check of packages like M2Crypto (I think). There is also native support for SSL in Python 1.6 and 2.0b1. I've had mixed response to Boa on 1.6, seems to work for some but not for others, in your case this might be the best route to try. > > Thanx again, > ~c > > _______________________________________________ > Boa-constructor-users mailing list > Boa...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/boa-constructor-users -- Riaan >>> a='a=%s;a%%`a`';a%`a` ___________________________________________________ Boa Constructor - RAD GUI building IDE for wxPython http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net |

Yes, but wxPython doesn't yet work with it (or so the doc's proclaim). I don't know whether more than a recompile is needed. Hi, First of all: Wow!!! What a great thing boa-constructor is. Kudos! My question is quite simple. Is there support for managing of multiple zope sites? I have already added the site which is running on my local machine, and I would also like to use boa-constructor to manage a site that is running remotely. The solution didn't seem intuitive (there is no "localhost" folder inside /boa/Zope to copy/rename). Thanx again for a great piece of software, ~c |

Hello, I am having trouble running Boa-Constructor. I am reletively new to both python and wxPython, so it is most likely a problem between the chair and the keyboard :) I am running FreeBSD 4.1 with wxPython 2.2.1 and wxWindows 2.2.1 installed by hand, and python installed from ports (version 1.5.2). Here is the command I ran (from within the Boa directory) and the error that I get: ---error--- # python Boa.py importing wxPython... imported wxPython imported Prefs Traceback (innermost last): File "Boa.py", line 23, in ? import Palette File "Palette.py", line 14, in ? import PaletteMapping File "PaletteMapping.py", line 25, in ? from wxPython.stc import wxStyledTextCtrl File "/usr/local/lib/python1.5/site-packages/wxPython/stc.py", line 7, in ? from stc_ import * File "/usr/local/lib/python1.5/site-packages/wxPython/stc_.py", line 2, in ? import stc_c ImportError: /usr/local/lib/python1.5/site-packages/wxPython/stc_cmodule.so: Undefined symbol "__pure_virtual" ---/error--- I would like to try out this cool looking software, but I can't find out which library provides this function (pure_virtual). BTW, if it helps, other wxPython programs run (demo.py, openrpg (http://www.openrpg.net), and the short programs that I've written) Sincerely, Caleb Land (bo...@ro...) |

Robert wrote: > > The latest version (0.3) was out in February...is this now a dead project? > Nope, working on it furiously and very close to 0.4 (as if you haven't heard that before :) CVS has a very recent version if you are interested. Hopefully I will update the CVS again tonight or tomorrow. Boa has gone thru some growing pains with the new editor, memory leaks and circular references. Most of these have now been addressed. I also hoped the NT / OpenDialog / wxStyledTextCtrl cursor keys problem would be resolved before the release as this necessitates restarting Boa after doing a Save As. The main thing that has kept me from a release has been instability. I simply didn't want to release an IDE that suddenly disappears from beneath you. There is one crash left to fix on wxGTK and then I'll release. Sorry about the delay, I thought about this for a while... Sorry, this is not going to change in the near future. I made the decision right at the start of the project to generate source code rather than a resource and a lot of the design is centered around that. Personally I still prefer it this way. There are various ways to possibly hide the code. One way would be in the IDE by simply keeping the _init_* methods folded by default. Another could be on source code level where properties and constructors gets initialised in a parent class (possibly a different module) and only events get defined/maintained in the child class of source file that the user works in. I do plan XML support at some later stage, although I was thinking more in terms import/export rather than running the app from XML. Still with the new XML support in wxWindows and Python it might turn into something more. -- Riaan >>> a='a=%s;a%%`a`';a%`a` ___________________________________________________ Boa Constructor - RAD GUI building IDE for wxPython http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net |

As I mentioned in my previous email to both groups. I am the maintainer of Korfe Java GUI Builder. It is a mixture of jPython and Java code that creates provides Visual Basic like GUI Forms engine. I am in the process of merging some new code and make this work at a jEdit plug-in. If there is a desire to make this work as plug-in with either project please feel just let know what I can do to help. I'm not sure that this is possible, since I am using Swing. I could provide or make it compatable with a file format. If there is enough intrest, I could focus on jPython to make the trasition to wxPython easier. I plan to support importing VB projects, Glade, and XUL. I will revising my website this weekend, so I hope to have something in CVS then. Regards, Jeff Duska |

As Jeremy said this is a lot of hot air going on the wxStudio list. Hot air is my thoughts on the topic. I just wanted to post this email to this group, because I did mention the Boa team in the e-mail. I feel that you guys should be know what going on. To sum things up, Ben Allfree [be...@bl...] is create a new wxStudio based on Python. Here is what I posted, I did clean up a few of the typos. First, I will introduce myself to those of you whom don't know me. I think that is most of the folks here. Hi my name is Jeff Duska. I've been a lurker here for some time. I'm also a lurker on the Boa - wxPython IDE list also. I was part of the FreeBuilder IDE group for over a year. I am the maintainer of the Korfe Java GUI Builder. I am Visual Basic programmer by trade, so the going is slow for me a times. Yet, as people have mentioned, us VB'ers aren't smart enough to just give up. We're like bad pennies that keep turning up. ;) I'd like to first make a few comments and suggestions. I am totally against Ben as a project lead. I'm sorry, but I feel this position needs to be some that can provide leadership and compromise. Instead Ben has already shown that it is his way or the highway. OpenAve already has a wxStudio site being provide for free. Why was another site needed? I offered to contact people at OpenAve, which I have good relationship with, if there was any problems with access. There is already a wxPython IDE. Yet, Ben has made no effort on the BOA list to work with this group. There is already is a CVS setup with Website for this group on SourceForge. Why do we need another CVS? This is exactly the mistakes that saw last year with the FreeBuilder IDE, which is a totally dead. I worked hard to promote the project, new people joined and then scraped all the previous work. New Website were created, IRC meeting occurred, chat happened. Just like Russell said all this was just nails in the coffin. From what I have seen in successful Open Source projects such, as for jEdit, Apache, Linux, and etc. The leadership is there by respect. They gain this status not by asking, but by action on the existing code. Ben if it is your wish to be the leader of the project, I would much rather see you adding value to the code base instead forking the projects. Please pick either Boa or wxStudio and work within the current source to make the project succeed. I personally think that the argument for Python are instresting, which is why I lurk on the Boa list. If people are intrested in wxPython project, there is a project call Boa ready and waiting for members to help out. Check it out at http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net/ Personally, I doubt that either team will be able to share code in the first release or merge the project in the near future. There is a whole another level to complexity of the multi-language project that neither team has shown the resources to manage or support. I think wxStudio and WipeOut integration should be the priority of [the wxStudio] list. There appears to be a lot of needed functionality within the WipeOut project, so why not snap it up. I think changing langauges at this point would be foolish. You're wasting time that people have already invested in wxStudio. As I mentioned, there is already a working wxPython IDE project. We don't need two partial wxPython IDE projects! I'm just a lurker, so you'll can do what you want. Has anyone noticed that a lot of people are unsubscribing? Food for thought. 'nought said |

Thought people here might be interested to know that there's been a lot of activity on the wxstudio-dev mailing list recently about how to revive the project, and it seems likely that Python will be used to implement the core framework (or possibly alongside a parallel C++ core framework development effort.) There's been a lot of uncertainty regarding how quickly a Python core could be up and running, and how well C++ components could be integrated into it. Boa Constructor has been mentioned (initially by me) as a related effort worth looking at, but I don't think anybody on that list really knows much about it or how far along it is...some communication between the two groups now could be really useful. Still trying to figure out if I can spare some time to devote to either effort...back to lurking for the time being. ^_^ Jeremy |
