Hi. I've been trying to setup audacity for two days now and I've run into some problems that I'm pretty sure are with audacity itself, and not my setup. Lemmie explain. (Mandrake 9.0, low-latency kernel, well tuned IDE) Problem 1: random clicks and pops When playing back a track I recorded, I hear random clicks and pops, not due to latency or clipping. These are additive: if I have one track it's not too bad... if I have five tracks it's intolerable. This happend very bad with 1.1.0 and 1.1.1. It seems MUCH better in CVS, almost unnoticable, but I'm not sure it's gone 100%. Problem 2: additive clipping When I record more than a few tracks and mixdown, the final mix clips, even if each of the component tracks were well below clipping level. Appears in all versions. Occurs for quick-mix and ogg export. Problem 3: 32-bit default If I set the default bitrate to 16, and create a new empty track, it is 16 bit. But if I hit record and a new track is automatically generated, it's still 32 bit. Problem 4: full duplex problems in mono Sound records perfectly in half duplex. When I switch on full duplex, tracks record at the wrong frequency, i.e. they playback at half speed. I've tried 3 soundcards (VIA 686, aureal 8830, CT5880/SB128) and both alsa and oss/free drivers, and the problem is always identical. Aureal and VIA are full duplex chips. Also, this works fine when recording in stereo. Any ideas? Looking forward to working with you, Austin |
