This icon changes to show the type pf playback that is currently selected. In the Timeline the right-click dropdown menu entry you talk about "*Do not scroll while playing*" does something else - the Manual says: >By default the waveform scrolls when playing. Enabling this option not to scroll can be useful when using Quick-Play to adjust the start and end of loops <http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_looping.html>. >Not scrolling ensures that the edges of the looped selection do not move if zooming in moves the playback point outside the visible area. The alternative >method of disabling scrolling is to use Tracks Preferences <http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tracks_preferences.html> and remove the checkmark from *Update display when Recording/Playback head is unpinned*. See this page in the Manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/timeline.html#menu Maybe we should consider adding a toggle for pinned/unpinned playback to that dropdown menu a) because some users obviously look there (Darrell, here, being a recent example). b) as it would help to avoid confusion about what "Do not scroll while playing" actually does.
