I think you don't object to having the menu, you object to repurposing right click for it. Peter has said he would trade the efficiency here for consistency with how other programs work. There are experienced users but there are new users too learning the program, and the right click choice may make things easier to learn. Furthermore we already have a right-click pop-up for labels, and should be remain consistent about that? I am open to persuasion either way. I don't think there is a question of code "elegance" at stake here: this is about user facing interface being convenient and learnable. I think the alternative to right click is just more work -- drawing a little down pointing triangle somewhere.
