David, a good point - I added your comments from here to the proposal to capture them:http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Proposal_new_Zoom_Toolbar Cheers,Peter. The users are mainly interested in the amount of samples or ms that a arrow key press moves in either direction. The current advice is to zoom to normal (ctrl-2) in order to get a 512 samples jump. You would then have to count the zoom-ins or -outs to arrive at a target length--apart from the fact that this value had to be divided by the project rate to get the time in seconds... So, if there is anywhere spare place for this as well, it would be great. Maybe only if no playing/recording state is displayed, i.e. in stop mode. Hi Robert, I've renamed the subject.Peter has started a proposal for a new zoom toolbar, and so perhaps changes which are helpful for screen readers could be incorporated into these plans:http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Proposal_new_Zoom_Toolbar I think that the ability to quickly set to the zoom level to some useful level may be just as important as knowing what the current level is. In the goldwave audio editor, you can quickly set the zoom level to preset step sizes such as 0.1 second. For example, there could be a dialog box, which gave the current step size, allowed you to type in any value, or quickly set it to a small number of useful values.
