I was able to follow http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Building_On_Mac to the letter to build on Mac for my first time on OS X 10.7.5. For whatever reason, after following those instructions I have never successfully rebuilt widgets with the wxMac-2.8.12-wxaccessible.patch in the Audacity source tree. The "Build wxwidgets.gz" script on the Wiki page disables accessibility - perhaps it needs combining with the patch somehow. I'm now on Mavericks and still compile Audacity with the above proviso but I've personally not heard of anyone building Audacity on Mountain Lion or Mavericks who did not start from Lion or earlier.
