Martyn, what happens when I click on the desktop shortcut that I have for 2.0.4 is that W7 displays the spinning blue- circle for a time while it fires up Audacity - then Audacity appears on the screen and the Audacity icon button appears in the taskbar at the same time. With 2.0.5, clicking on my desktop item causes the icon button in the taskbar to appear, but Audacity does not get launched onto the screen (but frustratingly only sometimes) - but clicking on the taskbar icon that has appeared seems to get Audacity on to the screen straight away. This behavior is new to 2.0.5 I have never seen this on any earlier Audacity version - and I've seen quite a few ;-) Peter. Thanks for the testing Peter, and for the full reply. Frustratingly. for me this does not happen. I have tried launching Audacity repeatedly with all other windows minimized, by double-clicking the icon on the desktop, by selecting the icon and hitting enter and by pinning it to the taskbar and clicking. It works here every time. On timings, win 7 freshly rebooted, about 27s (1 test), subsequent times about 3s. XP freshly booted about 6s (1 test), subsequently about 2s. What about 2.0.4? We have that new button in the bar on 2.0.5, does 2.0.4 do the same, if you imagined a button there? I have no idea what is going on here. When the problem happens, what does it say on the button? "Audacity is starting up..." or "Audacity"? If you have lots of buttons and they are too short to tell, hover the mouse over it to see (on 7 at least). I cannot think why un-minimising another app would cause Audacity to do something, but knowing what state it is in may be a clue. Wishing I could do more here, I can't think of other questions to ask!
