First, a general question, then 2 follow-ups on Gale's comments... A question for anyone who knows about TrackPanel redisplay: During playback, it look like the NoteTrack image is not recomputed. I'm guessing some code must save the bitmap in order to move the vertical time cursor. However, when the velocity slider moves in the little panel on the left, the entire NoteTrack image is recomputed. I think this is generic TrackPanel behavior, but I'm not sure if it is necessary or how to turn it off. It would certainly make slider adjustment smoother not to redraw the entire TrackPanel. Is the full-redraw-on-slider-movement behavior an oversight? > Date: Tue, 05 Oct 2010 15:54:15 +0100 > From: Gale Andrews<ga...@au...> > > One problem that I am seeing is that MIDI playback can mute or lock > (repeat the current notes endlessly) if you move the "Velocity" slider > while playing. Should be fixed in r10723. > I'd find that it more intuitive that down state is bright and default, even though current behaviour is analogous with the Mute button behaviour. > > I quite like notes being removed when they are "silenced" by the track > buttons because you can distinguish between that state and when they > are still "available to play" but just muted because the track is muted. > So I don't think it's much of a contradiction if the channel buttons are > "Play" buttons. > This was easy to change, and I left a #define CHANNEL_ON_IS_DOWN 0 in NoteTrack.cpp where you can change the behavior. However, in the up position, buttons have decorative highlights that give a 3D sort of look, whereas the "down" position is just a solid color with no decorations. So "up" is "pretty" and "down" is "dull". I put pictures of both styles here: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~music/audacity/NoteTrackChannelButtons.html <http://www.cs.cmu.edu/%7Emusic/audacity/NoteTrackChannelButtons.html> I like the original style. What do you think? -Roger |
