I think I might know what is going on. It is not really a bug. What is happening is that when the user tabs into the section of the dialog which contains files and folders Windows is automatically filtering based on "Save as type:". Since in the case Tobias provided there are no previously saved Audacity projects everything is filtered out because they do not because they do not have the .AUP extension. Try this: * Open the folder "modules" (or "Modules" on Tobias's machine) in the folder in which Audacity resides -- on my machine it is here: audacity\win\Unicode Debug -- on Tobias's machine here: Audacity 1.3 Bata (Unicode) * Create a new folder Now follow the steps to re-create (see bottom of this document) and you will see that when all the files disappear the folder does not. Now create a real project in this folder then follow the steps to re-create and you will see that all files disappear but the folder and the audacity project files (including the data folder) remain visible. Thank you Tobias for creating a very detailed and specific bug report which enabled me to understand the situation very clearly and determine (I think) exactly what was going on. ========================================== The following discussion is probably no longer pertinent... A picture is worth 1000 words! I could not understand the German text but by following the pictures I was able to re-create this problem 100% of the time. The first thought I have is that the File Save panel is using an obsolete Window's control. I think that wxWidgets 2.9 is now using the most current control -- I do not know if this will resolve the issue if/when Audacity starts compiling/shipping with a more current wxWidgets library. I do not have any other programs running on my machine based on wxWidgets so I cannot be sure that this is a wxWidgets not Audacity problem. I do know that other fairly current applications which are still using the obsolete panel do not exhibit this problem. In testing further, I can expose other bugs with this panel. I know that there has been discussion on this list which leads me to believe that the File Save/Open dialogs are going to get modernized post-2.0. My personal belief is that we should rate this as a P3, discuss it in the Release Notes then postpone anything more than a cursory examination until the file dialogs are modernized. Steps (in English) to reproduce: * Compile Unicode CVS HEAD 7 December 2009 * Launch Audacity (it does not matter if the configuration file is initialized or not) * Choose "Save Project As..." (aside -- why can I save an empty project? ) * Click OK on Warning dialog * The "Save Project As..." dialog opens in the launch directory's "modules" folder with focus on the empty "File name:" text entry field * Press the TAB key 7 times --Ed > -----Original Message----- > From: Tobias Fuchs [mailto:tob...@go...] > > > > If I click on the Desktop button of the file browser appearing as you > > click on "Save Project as." and then click an Arrow-Key to select > > another item in the File-Browser or click on another Item, you will > > see that the files (not the folders) are just disappearing.
