I don't think 1.4 still looking over its shoulder at 1.2 Preferences if you delete audacity.cfg makes much sense, especially if it convolutes users making a clean reset of 1.4 preferences. Does 1.3 on Mac still take into account the old "audacity" file in the library (for 1.2) if you delete .cfg? Anyway on Windows, when 1.4 is run the first time with no .cfg file present, is there any way it could take common 1.2 settings from the Registry as now, but then set some flag in the registry or elsewhere to henceforth ignore 1.2 Registry settings altogether? This would then let us reset preferences by simply deleting .cfg after exit. I think it's OK that a complete prefs. reset only takes place after restart - that is already the case with the temporary directory. If not, I don't see it being overly destructive (in 1.4) to remove the 1.2 registry settings when resetting preferences. After all we will be hoping the overwhelming majority will switch from 1.2 to 1.4. The main two things in the Registry are probably the MP3LibPath (not very significant as most users will need to upgrade thier lame_enc.dll?) and NewKeys (a bit more of a problem?). Or when we remove the 1.2 Registry settings, could we offer to create a reg file they could just double-click on to merge the 1.2 settings back into the Registry?
