Well, first of all, let me apologize for that little hot-headed email ... We have two issues to solve here. First, the release frequency. The stables are getting longer and longer to be released, and a lot of distros are just including the beta within their packages. And what's the problem with that? In Brazil, e.g., we have a law reducing taxes for desktops with linux, so it's quite common to sell desktops with some sort of Linux, usually a small distro, supported only in that particular hardware. And, we end up shipping thousands of computers with an unfinished version of Audacity, partially translated, with parts in english and parts in portuguese. So, it's not a wish, but a demand to have a litle more effort driven to the translations at beta releases. Second, regarding the PO workflow: Groekenfold said that: *"I think moving to Pootle would solve a lot of these problems and make the process of translation and collaboration a lot more transparent and accessible for new possible translators, although of course it does involve some work setting it all up.*" I think it's time to try this solution. The ideal situation would be if we could run our own pootle server, but it would be fine to have it in another server as well. But, what we had this very same discussion before and no decision taken on. This time I hope it will be different. How do the other translators see this change? Cleber |
